President’s Message
David King
Hello once again to all of you good people out there. I
saw most of you in the first two weeks of March and it was
wonderful. You are the best looking people in the Magic Valley,
which makes it easy on the eyes, and I heard nothing but
intelligent conversation, which makes it easy on the ears. It’s
been a long cold winter and so welcome back to our magical
eighteen.
Debbie Schvaneveldt has made the decision to resign from the board of
directors. This is a big loss in that Debbie is very bright and a financial wizard.
However, she realized that she had other things going on her life that made it
hard to devote the time and energy to the job that she felt was necessary. We will
miss her and I would appreciate your taking the time to thank her for her four and
one half months of service.
The board promptly took up the subject of Debbie’s replacement. After
deliberation, the board decided that the best member for the job is Jeff Stevens.
Most of you remember Jeff when he was in the pro shop with John Peterson. Jeff
is presently gainfully employed at St. Luke’s in the financial area of their
operations. We are looking forward to Jeff’s contribution and he deserves your
congratulations for taking on the responsibility.
Although it is unusual, I am guilty of an omission in my last letter. I forgot
to include a big thank you to Bob Wilhelm who also contributed to the
improvements in our pro shop. Bob is an electrical magician and performed his
magic. The result------voila!!-----all of the stuff in the pro shop works. Yes, go
ahead, let’s all give Bob a big hug.
Good news. The price for golf cart gas has been dropped to $3.00 per
gallon. That is not retail, but it is a happy medium that will enable us to recoup
the cost of the more expensive gas in the tank and hopefully put happy faces on
our good members. No hugs, it was the right thing to do. We will continue to
look at the price issue and make changes when necessary.
Two changes to the range pass bargain. First, the cut-off date for taking
advantage of the $100 for a single and $150 for a family prices will be extended
to May 31, to allow the snowbirds to join in the fun. Also, we have decided that
anyone who realizes that they made a mistake buying a single pass can upgrade
to a family pass any time during the year for $50.
You will be seeing young golfers from Jerome High School on our course
this spring. More of them than last year. The JHS golf team had 20 young
people turn out with almost an even split between guys and gals. The Men’s and
Women’s Associations made a large contribution to help lower the costs to the

team members and it has contributed to the strong turnout. We are excited to watch the team’s performance
this year and a big thank you goes to the Men’s and Women’s Associations for their help.
The board appointed Ben Neff, Janet Cantor, Edna Pierson, Kirby Nebeker, and Sam Osborn to the
nomination committee that will come up with a slate of candidates for the next election of board members.
Three director positions will be vacated in November of 2015 and must be filled. The slate of candidates will
be sent out in May and the election will be completed by May 31. Persons elected will attend board meetings
without voting power until they are seated as directors in November. If you want to throw your hat into the ring,
contact any one of the above members and ask to be added to the list of candidates.
Remember-------the biggest social event of our early season (Work Day) is on the near horizon. For any
of you who have not yet noted April 18 on your calendar, please do it right now. Again, be there or be square.
As most of you know, I spend a lot of my time pondering deep issues. I feel it is my responsibility to
solve important problems, so I have written a book that I recommend to all of you entitled “The Principles of
Good Living”. One of the big issues that I address in the book has been at the forefront of my mind lately------and I have come to a decision on that issue that I am going to share with you. I have definitely decided that
“the hokey pokey is what it is all about”. In my next letter, I will share with you “the color of the sky in my
world”.
Have a great month of April and be sure to hug a friend.

As the golf season moves
into full Swing, I would like to
thank some members for their
efforts to modify the golf shop
office this winter. Thank You to
Leonard Bay, Bob Wilhelm, Steve
Hailstone, and Gary Haywood for placing a new
door to the office and all of the carpentry,
electrical, finish and carpet work to complete the
project. You will also notice a new large flat
screen television in the golf shop. Thanks to the
generosity of Pete and Janet Cantor.
Congratulations to Bob Snyder. He is 97
years young and has been playing some great golf
lately. He has already shot his age three times this
Spring including a 94. Great Golf Bob!
We have adopted a local rule beginning in
2015.
Players will be allowed relief from
immovable obstructions “close to the putting
green” that are on the line of play. Under Rule
I.B.6 the immovable obstruction (usually an
irrigation head) would have to be within two club
lengths of the putting surface and the players ball
would be within two club lengths of the obstruction
to qualify for relief from interference on the line of
play. The rule only allows the nearest relief and
not an additional club length of relief as it does when
the obstruction interferes with the player’s stance or
swing. This rule is meant to allow relief on the line of
play when a player is near the green and putting from
off of the green might be preferred by the player. The
Specimen rule the explanation can be found in the
Rules of Golf Appendix I, Section B, Rule 6.
The Titleist Loyalty rewarded program will
continue thru April 11th. The program allows you to
purchase four dozen Personalized Pro V1 or Pro V1X
golf Balls for the price of three. The member price is
$149.95 +tax for 4 dozen (this is well below
wholesale). Place your order by April 11th.
As many of you know, when we host large
outside tournaments, the club does not have enough
rental carts to accommodate the number of players in
these events. Stop in to let us know if you are
interested in allowing us to rent your carts to the players
in these events, we would greatly appreciate it. When
your carts are used the rental fee can be paid to you in
either cash or golf shop credit.
The 2015 Junior Golf Program start date is
June 9th. The Junior Golfers will meet for instruction
and to play golf on Tuesday and Thursday mornings
thru July 23. The schedule will be available and
Signups will begin May 1st.
