JOB PURPOSE
This role will enable Cambridge Exams Publishing to document and analyse requirements for
upcoming digital publishing products (in particular around new Young Learners and Schools
publishing), making recommendations where necessary to ensure that projects are taken to
investment approval with all relevant information and documentation to enable a smooth transition to
production stages.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES








Capture requirements in the form of business requirements, functional requirements, user
(stakeholder) requirements and implementation (transition) requirements for specific digital
publishing projects. Ensure that requirements can be understood by all stakeholders and
highlight any new development streams or business gaps.
Deliver documents or prototypes so that stakeholders can evaluate proposed solutions. This may
include use cases, interface designs or working prototypes.
Assist in developing business cases for new projects and programmes and input into approval
documentation.
Work with key stakeholders within the different project groups to understand the ambitions and
goals of new learning products and drive and challenge their assumptions of the solution.
Evaluate and present information gathered from all sources, reconcile conflicts, translate highlevel information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding,
and distinguish user requests from the underlying true needs.
Identify any market research required in order to make informed decisions and liaise with
publishing and marketing colleagues to ensure the research delivers the answers required.
Understand and proactively keep abreast of current technology solutions available, the
technology roadmaps and research other potential solutions for specific projects and to provide
input to the longer term platform roadmaps and publishing plans as required.
Be one of a team of “Subject Matter Experts” in terms of digital publishing solutions, to provide
expert knowledge on all aspects of digital publishing and programme related developments to
relevant groups within Cambridge English Language Assessment and Cambridge University
Press.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Qualifications
 Educated to first degree level, preferably with an additional post graduate qualification in a
related discipline
 Proven experience in this area or business analysis qualification (e.g. BCS/ISEB) is essential
 Project management qualification is desirable
Skills
 Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate and present
complex issues to all audiences
 Understanding of complex IT environments is essential, knowledge of online publishing
environment is desirable
 Expert user level of expertise in IT, particularly MS Office and web applications
 Excellent organisational and time management skills: ability to plan and control operational and
project activities
 Ability to work under pressure and to demanding deadlines
 Ability to carry out stakeholder discussions, lead and facilitate workshops
 Ability to solve problems
 Ability to maintain the balance between likeability and assertiveness
Experience
 End to end experience of the project lifecycle, particularly early stages of project initiation and
pre-approval
 Demonstrable evidence of analysing and documenting complex requirements
 A proven thorough understanding of the concepts, application and opportunities offered by a
diverse range of technologies
 Experience of Learning Management Systems or Virtual Learning Environments
 Some experience of working in an educational environment or of defining products for
educational purposes is desirable
 Experience of content production is desirable
 Assessment or ELT experience is desirable
