2014 Annual Report - Joedance Film Festival

2014 Annual Report A message from the President DEAR FRIENDS,
2014 was a pivotal growth year for Joedance, ending with a great deal of op?mism. We celebrated the 5th anniversary of the Film Fes?val and made another record dona?on to Levine Children’s Hospital. The enthusiasm of our supporters – reflected in our steadily increasing sponsorships and sold-‐out events – con?nues to amaze and inspire us. Our outstanding accomplishments this year included: •  A dona?on of $30,000 to Levine Children’s Hospital in September 2014 raising the total of Joe Restaino's Fund to $77,000 •  Suppor?ng a summer internship to educate pa?ents of the benefits of swishing and swallowing with Healios, a flavored liquid nutrient. Healios lessens the severity of mouth sores, which are a very painful side effect of chemotherapy and radia?on which most children experience during their treatments •  In October, the Healios educa?onal materials poster was displayed at the 46th Congress of the Interna?onal Society of Paediatric Oncology in Toronto, Canada •  More than 25 original films from filmmakers with a Charlo[e connec?on submi[ed for screening at our Film Fes?val •  Over 300 patrons a[ending the Joedance Film Fes?val 2014, an increase of 50% over 2013 •  Con?nuing our rewarding tradi?on of hos?ng “spa days” with partner sponsor Modern Salon and Spa for families of long term stay pa?ents at Levine Children’s Hospital •  NASCAR driver Jimmy Weller promo?ng Joedance Film Fes?val and Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September This spring, in an exci?ng turn of events, I was chosen to represent Joedance in “SEED20,” a charitable funding compe??on. Although we didn’t win, Joedance finished in the top ten (out of 20 high-‐impact nonprofits selected), lec a las?ng impression on the sponsor organiza?on Social Venture Partners, and made many new friends among the 700 a[endees and local partner organiza?ons. Your support allows us to do what we do best – support Charlo[e filmmakers, and raise awareness and funds for research and clinical trials at Levine Children’s Hospital for rare pediatric cancers. Thank you for being a part of Joe’s enduring legacy.
Diane Restaino, President 2 Our Mission Statement Joedance Film Fes.val raises funds and awareness of rare pediatric cancers, specifically sarcomas, blastomas and brain tumors, for research and clinical trials at Levine Children’s Hospital. Joedance, held annually, is commi[ed to screen films of Charlo[e, North Carolina film producers, writers and directors. Joedance was founded July 6, 2010 in memory of Joe Restaino who passed away acer a four-‐year ba[le with osteosarcoma (bone cancer) at the age of 20. Joe’s love of movies inspired the first Joedance Film Fes?val, held August 6 and 7, 2010. It is now held annually on the first weekend of August in the courtyard of the 10th Street Townhomes in Charlo[e’s Historic Fourth Ward. JULY 2010
