Workshop on Ultra-Precision Processing for Wide Band
Gap Semiconductors, 2015 (WUPP-2015) will be held in
Fukuoka, Japan on Aug. 20-21. This workshop will
contribute to the further advancement of wide bandgap
semiconductor devices through mixing researchers in wide
bandgap semiconductors and ultra-precision processing.
This workshop takes over the successful international
meeting of WUPP-2013 in USA and WUPP-2014 in UK. As
the third international workshop, we will discuss themes
related to III-Nitrides, silicon carbide, and diamond. The
organizing committees plan to provide an opportunity for
researchers in semiconductors and ultra-precision
processing to interact and discuss various issues related
these important wide bandgap materials from bulk
preparation to device manufacturing for next–generationdevice realization. The workshop is "by invitation only" and
is limited to about 80 participants to maximize the interaction.
The organizing committee also offers to invite all of the
speakers of the last meeting (WUPP-2013 and WUPP-2014)
as an invited poster presentation to update the topics
discussed in previous WUPP. Also, we welcome general
poster presentations (limited numbers). The poster
presentations will be held with the exhibition of sponsor
companies at the same place and time, which will provide
the strong opportunity to interact the communications
between scientific and industrial areas, together with
constructing the human networks.
Scope & Topics
As important topics to be discussed the organizing
committee plan the following sessions;
 Bulk crystal preparation of GaN, SiC, and Diamond
single crystals
 Processing of bulk crystals for wafering
 Device epitaxy and processing for LEDs, LDs, and
power electronics applications, etc.
 Marketing and further featured technologies
Plenary talk and Special Organizing Committees
Prof. Sawabe (Aoyama Gakuin Univ.), Prof. Miyake (Mie
Univ.), and Prof. Sano (Osaka Univ.), who will arrange
sessions in Diamond, III-Nitrides, and SiC research area,
respectively, have joined the conference committee as
special committee members, for leading to the further
interaction in these related research area in WUPP-2015.
We also plan plenary talk by Prof. Amano (Nagoya Univ.)
who got Nobel Prize in 2014 for his great research works in
nitride semiconductors. He also supports the WUPP.

Locations
Fukuoka is situated on the northern shore of the island of
Kyushu in Japan. The workshop venue is Hilton Fukuoka
Sea Hawk Hotel, where is located within easy access of
Fukuoka International Airport (FUK). At the Hilton Fukuoka
Sea Hawk Hotel, you can enjoy overlooking view of beautiful
Hakata Bay and the city of Hakata.

に関わる超精密加工プロセス研究分科会」をご支援いただきありがとうございます。
当分科会は 2013 年度より国際ワークショップ WUPP 開催を支援して参りました。国際ワークシ
ョップ WUPP は、国内で開催している当分科会の主なディスカッションテーマを、国内研究交流に
とどめることなく、広く国際的研究交流の場を設けていくことを目的に年に 1 度開催しているも
のです。世界トップレベルの研究者たちが集まり、彼らとの密なコミュニケーションを通した新規
研究テーマやビジネスの創造が行われています。
今年度は日本の福岡にて、GaN・SiC・ダイヤモンドの加工・結晶成長・デバイス・マーケティン
グと多岐にわたるテーマに関するワークショップ開催が検討されており、本年度も当分科会は、国
際ワークショップ WUPP の開催を強力にサポートしていきます。
現在、国際ワークショップ WUPP に協賛いただける企業を募集しております。次回ワークショッ
プにおいては 70～80 名程度のご参加が見込まれ、これまで以上に盛大な国際ワークショップとな
