The JPII Lady Knights basketball coaches and players will demonstrate and teach the campers
the basic fundamentals of passing, dribbling, shooting, and defense. Campers will see their skills
improve through small group instruction, drills, and game experience.

Led by JPII Head Coach Michael Brown and assistant coaches Randy Darnell, Brian Winders,
John Van Benschoten, Kip Brown, and John Dempsey as well as current and former players and
guest instructors, the JPII Baseball Camp will provide an intense learning environment designed
to improve the fundamental skills necessary to become a better all-around player. Campers will be
divided by age group and ability level for appropriate instruction, which will include fundamental
drills, proper practice techniques, and mental approach to the game with specific instruction on
hitting, pitching, catching, position specific fundamentals, fielding, throwing, and base running.
Games are played each day and are a great opportunity for campers to incorporate the techniques
they have been taught to improve their confidence in their abilities on the beautiful turf at JPII.

Ages 7-17

Golf camp will cover the basics of golf. The full-swing fundamentals will be covered, including
grip, posture, alignment, and ball position. The camp will also cover short game basics, including
pitching, chipping, putting, and bunker play. Each camper will be given one-on-one as well as group
instruction in each area of the game. Campers will also have the opportunity to put their skills to
the test through fun competitions and playing on a mini course. COST $150 (includes green fees).

This camp is designed for younger boys and girls who have a basic familiarity with the game of soccer
and/or an interest in becoming a more skillful player. The camp focuses on building or developing the
four basic soccer skills: dribbling, passing, defending, & shooting. Each day focuses on one specific
skill, starting with basic movements and techniques and escalating into soccer-based games and
small-sided soccer games or scrimmages. The final day consists of a mini-tournament. Campers will
be assisted and guided by JPII varsity and JV soccer players as well as coaches for more individualized
attention and demonstration. Campers should bring sneakers every day. Cleats, shin guards, and a
size 4 soccer ball are recommended but not required.

Are you ready to dance at JPII’s Knights Dance Camp? Coach Jamie Jordan and the JPII’s dance
team, the JPII Knight Stars, will teach dancers jazz, pom, and hip hop routines along with dance
technique and fun dance games! The focus of this camp is to learn and perfect dance skills performed
on a dance team and to have fun! Jamie has coached many dance teams in Tennessee, winning
state and national championships. Jamie’s dancers have performed with Taylor Swift! She was voted
Sumner County’s best coach in the Tennessean.
intermediate creative writing

Designed for students in eighth grade or in high school, the Intermediate Creative Writing Camp
allows creative writers insight to an author’s process. Campers will learn and practice the various
techniques that professional authors use to brainstorm, research, organize, and write. Campers
will explore free writing, plot planning and research, and character development, along with other
writing strategies. Campers will also learn about various aspects of the publishing industry.

from introduction to immersion

In this camp, we will begin building the skills necessary to converse fluently in Spanish by focusing
on the building blocks of the language! All campers are welcome--we will make rapid improvements
over the course of the week. Even if your child has NO experience with the language, their progress
will astound you and they will walk away prepared to chat in Spanish at a basic level without
interruption. This camp will culminate in an immersion session in which all campers will speak
solely Spanish and will compete for prizes in doing so! By completing this camp, your child will hone
their existing skills or will unfurl new ones in a beautiful and pragmatic foreign tongue; please sign
up soon, as slots will fill quickly!

science sleuths in motion

Many things in our world are not visible to us, yet they impact our lives. This year the JPII Science
Sleuths will learn to use other methods besides their vision to see the unseen. They will learn to use
scientific equipment to conducted experiments in order to observe the unseen marvels in the world.
Multiple experiments will be conduct across many topics in science including life, earth and physical
sciences. Each day will also include a challenge activity to get students involved in investigating
science and even a little engineering. Come “see” what Science Sleuths is all about! Jennifer Dye, the
teacher of Science Sleuths, was awarded the Tennessee Science Teacher Award, Outstanding Biology
Teacher Award, and the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching and is the Science
Department Chair at JPII.

Through a focus on “a galaxy far, far away”, campers will have the chance to become a Jedi Knight and
a historian by learning how democracies becoming dictatorships with an emphasis on “The Galactic
Republic” and Ancient Rome, examining the “Journey of the Hero” present in the Star Wars saga and
in Ancient Greek mythology, and studying the ways in which totalitarian regimes like “The Empire”,
Nazi Germany, and Fascist Italy thrived and fell. Not only will campers spend time preparing for the
theatrical release of Episode VII: The Force Awakens, we will spend our last day of camp learning the
ways of the lightsaber with a special Jedi Dueling Workshop.

The Intro to Creative Writing Camp introduces elementary and middle school campers to the fun of
language through word games, group stories, poetry, and short stories. Creative writers will learn the
tricks that great authors use to create curious characters, pleasing poetry, and silly stories. Campers
will be highly engaged and amused while learning valuable critical thinking, language, and literacy

The purpose of JPII Cheerleading Camp is to teach the fundamentals of the sport of cheerleading to
beginners. Campers will learn the proper technique for hitting motions and jumps, cheering, and a
competition dance by the JPII Cheerleaders! Campers will also be taught the correct way to stretch
to improve strength and flexibility.

JPII Boys Lacrosse Camp is designed to develop players’ fundamental skills and field sense. Campers
are organized by age and ability for position work and field competition. Activities include daily
scrimmages, intense position work, and detailed attention to the fundamentals of the game such as
passing, catching, cradling, shooting, dodging, defense, and scooping. The coaching staff will provide
each athlete with an evaluation designed to assist the athlete in his on-going effort to improve his
play.

The Softball Camp will teach the fundamentals of all positions. Campers will be able to learn from
all different positions on the field. Girls from the Knights Softball Team will be present to provide
support as well as to model for the campers the techniques that they are taught.

This camp is for those who love reading about famous battles or watching documentaries on the
History Channel and who enjoy playing boardgames, especially those that require cunning and
strategy. This is an opportunity for campers to learn about the history of warfare by learning to play
a variety of boardgames, including Chess, Risk (including variations of Risk involving Insurgencies,
Zombies, and new this year, Drone Strikes), Axis and Allies, and others. Topics of warfare to be
examined include Greek phalanx and Roman legion tactics, Medieval warfare (yeah, Knights!),
Napoleonic methods and strategies, World War I and II and the role of alliances and coordinating
armed services, and the spread of ISIS in the Middle East.

Here’s a one-stop, concentrated prep class geared specifically to those taking the ACT exam on June
13th. The ACT Primer Review offers an overview of each of the four tests and the skills they assess,
plus types of questions to expect, strategies for answering questions, practice sessions, and resources
for further study and practice. Strategies for approaching the Writing Exam are also included.
Campers are required to independently purchase The Real ACT Prep Guide, third edition, available
at any bookstore or online before the start of camp, and bring a calculator and pencils.

Competitions and conflicts that involve dodging and launching projectiles have existed throughout
history and can be traced to the development of siege equipment and artillery. Leaving warfare aside,
camp participants will have the opportunity to engage in a number of fun, physical competitions
that promote physical well-being, strength and conditioning, tactics, leadership, and teamwork.
Specifically, students will engage in games of traditionally and modified dodgeball, the JPII favorite
“battleball”, traditional kickball, the JPII variation of “clump ball”, and “Bombard”. All the while,
students will enjoy mini-lectures on the uses, successes, and failures of artillery from ancient history
through current conflicts.

Circle the globe in a week at this fun camp!! Campers will explore various cultures with friendly
competitions and new adventures every day. We will take virtual field trips to discover some of the
global wonders. Daily activities will include art, dance, and drama as well as internationally popular
sports and games. We will also enjoy a sampling of food from other cultures. This camp is perfect for
campers who like to learn about the world beyond their backyard.

fundamental environment for beginning players to learn and improve court movement along with
the very basics of volleyball! Campers will use lighter balls and a modified court size to ensure success
for all beginners! This camp will also provide a more intense learning environment for intermediate/
advanced players to grow in expertise and hone all of their volleyball skills. Each camper will receive
instruction in ball control, passing, setting, hitting, serving, and defense. Individual drills, group
instruction, and game experience will meet the needs of all ages and ability levels.

Fr. John Hammond, M.S.M. (Master of Sacred Music) and JPII's own Fr. McGowan present a week
of exploring the beautiful Gregorian Chant tradition through a combination of instruction, practice,
and most importantly, daily masses with a fully chanted experience. Participants will be exposed to
the basics of Latin pronunciation and Gregorian musical notation, starting with some of the simplest
Gregorian melodies and working toward a full, conscious, and active participation in the Church's
immense treasury of Sacred Music. While it is not required to be able to sing or read music, it is
certainly encouraged.

to improve upon their stick skills, dodging, and defensive positions.

welcome to bring their own guitars, drums or other gear!

During one amazing week, middle school students can experience what it is like to be part of a
high school music program, to make new friends, and to have new experiences all while developing
their skills as a musician. Whether they have just started learning an instrument or have been
taking lessons for years, the Middle School Band Camp provides a non-competitive but challenging
environment where campers of all ability levels can learn and perform. Campers will participate
in several ensembles and learn through band rehearsals, sectional and master classes, music theory
lessons, and more! This camp provides students an opportunity to receive exceptional instruction on
the instrument that they love, but it also enables them to try something new - like steel pan ensemble,
jazz improvisation, world music, or conducting. Performance is also an integral part of the camp
experience and all Middle School Band Camp students will perform in a public performance on the
last day of camp. 5th-8th grade students are welcome!

The JPII Guitar Camp is a program designed for aspiring musicians of all ages to promote the growth
and development of musical knowledge. Our program is unique in that we cater our instruction
to the student’s personal style, level of experience, and musical goals. We create a healthy, noncompetitive, and supportive environment in which to learn. Each day involves a hands-on approach,
clinics, ensemble performances, and concerts. Students will also enjoy visits from world-class guest
artists and have many performance opportunities. The complete immersion in music allows students
to walk away with enough material and musical ideas to last until next year. Whether you just started
playing recently and want to get started in the right direction, or you’ve been playing for years and
want to further develop your craft, you will find what you’re looking for at JPII!

This camp will teach campers how to record, edit, and produce an audio podcast. During the
camp, students will work on choosing interesting topics, researching, outlining, creating intriguing
discussions, and mixing audio content. At the end of camp, each student will have a final podcast
episode posted online or saved on a flash drive.

This camp is designed to engage and entertain children in a full week of fun and interesting activities,
while appreciating the importance of teamwork and cooperation. Sportsmanship and creativity will
be emphasized though activities, including kickball, as well as creative endeavors, including crafts
and scavenger hunts. The whole week, including creative and craft time is equally suited for boys and
girls. Campers are asked to bring their lunch, sneakers, sunscreen and a water bottle. COST is $210.

Extended Care
Parents have the option of dropping campers

Meal Plans:
Campers have the option of bringing their
own lunch or purchasing a meal from the

What to Bring?
Campers should bring a water bottle, snack,
change for the vending machines, and
sunscreen for outdoor camps. Campers
should also wear comfortable clothing and
appropriate shoes.
What NOT to Bring?
We recommend campers not bring valuables
to camp (iPods, large amounts of cash,
Gameboys, PSP’s, etc.) as his/her bags may
be unattended at times.
Important
▶ Full payment is due with registration.
▶ Registration will be closed once a camp is
at capacity.
▶ Camp fees are non-refundable after May 1, 2015.
▶ Refunds must be requested in writing prior to May
1, 2015. If a camper must withdraw, a processing fee
of $50 will be charged.
▶ JPII reserves the right to cancel a camp if it is not
filled to capacity or if unforeseen circumstances
arise.
