Canada retained its monarchy because the French and other colonists of British North America refused to join the American Revolution (1775 – 1783). 50000 united Empire Loyalists came and settled in Canada, remaining loyal to the monarch (King/Queen). War of 1812 – Canada resisted the Americans and maintained the monarchy. 1 British North America What can you learn about history from visiting a cemetery?
