Sheila Anne Mangum, 69, of Jacksonville, passed away from kidney cancer on June 3, 2015.
Sheila was born in Burlington, Vermont on March 21, 1946, the daughter of Irene May
(Smith) and Guy E. Mangum, Jr. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1964, the
University of Vermont in 1969, and received her Master of Library Science degree from
Louisiana State University in 1970. Sheila spent her entire professional career working as a
Librarian for the State of Florida, the majority at the University of North Florida in
Jacksonville, where she spent over thirty-three years as the Head of Acquisitions Dept. at
Thomas G. Carpenter Library, retiring in March 2008. She enjoyed reading and traveling in
the US and abroad. For many years she was an active member of the Society for Creative
Anachronism, a world-wide medieval study and re-enactment organization. Sheila was
preceded in death by her father, Guy E. Magnum, Jr., of Orlando, FL and her mother, Irene
M. Hams of South Burlington, VT. She is survived by her step-father Robert E. Hams of
South Burlington, Vermont; sister, Nancy J. Magnum of South Burlington, VT; numerous
aunts, uncles, and cousins in Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts, and Orlando, Florida; and
many wonderful friends in Vermont and Florida. A memorial service will be held 5:00 pm
on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd., Jacksonville, FL,
32211 (904) 744-8422. After cremation, interment will take place in East Cemetery,
Williston, Vermont. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Judy Nicholson

Mayo Clinic Jacksonville from whom she received such compassionate care, the Judy
Nicholson Foundation Support Group members and especially her many local friends and
former colleagues who were so wonderfully supportive during her illness.
