MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE JURUPA VALLEY CITY COUNCIL May 14, 2015 The meeting was held at the Jurupa Valley City Council Chamber, 8930 Limonite Avenue, Jurupa Valley, CA 92509 1. 6:00 PM - CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL – BUDGET WORKSHOP ● ● ● ● ● Brad Hancock, Mayor Laura Roughton, Mayor Pro Tem Brian Berkson, Council Member Frank Johnston, Council Member Verne Lauritzen, Council Member Mayor Hancock called the special meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. Council Member Lauritzen was absent. 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE was led by Council Member Brian Berkson. 3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA A motion was made by Council Member Johnston, seconded by Mayor Pro Tem Roughton to approve the Agenda. Berkson, Hancock, Johnston, Lauritzen, Roughton None None DISCUSSION OF FISCAL YEAR 2015-16 ANNUAL CITY BUDGET City Manager Gary Thompson reported that today, the League of California Cities announced that the governor’s revised budget includes approximately $24 million that is earmarked for paying off debt that is currently owed by the cities of Jurupa Valley, Menifee and Wildomar to the County of Riverside. He explained how the California Department of Finance will distribute these funds. He stated that these funds put the City of Jurupa Valley in a much more favorable position going forward. Nonetheless, the City will still pursue restoration of its lost revenue in the long-term and will continue working with Senator Roth. In light of this news, he recommended that the City Council rescind their earlier resolution of intent to file for disincorporation. Council Member Lauritzen arrived at 6:35 p.m. -1-
