Plano Mayor’s Office Summer Internship Program (PMSIP)
INFORMATION FOR SCHOOL STAFF
PMSIP is an eight week, paid summer internship program that introduces Plano high
school students to careers and employment opportunities in corporate and nonprofit
settings. The program, led by Plano Mayor Harry LaRosiliere, motivates high school
students to become the leaders of tomorrow.
In 2014, its inaugural year, the program provided 37 exceptional, motivated Plano high
school students with life changing, real work experiences to the students who receive
internships. Additionally, over 170 students participated in the training program,
receiving instruction in critical employability skills. Mayor LaRosiliere is determined for
this year’s program to reach more students and has set a goal of providing 100
internships during the summer of 2015.
The Plano Mayor’s Office has partnered with Capital One to develop and sponsor this
annual program.
Hendrick Scholarship Foundation and The Reeds PRC are facilitators of the program.

BRIEF OVERVIEW
Corporate sponsors provide the funding for 8 week paid internships. Internships may be
hosted at the corporate sites or the sponsors may choose to fund internships to be
hosted at nonprofits.
Internship positions will be 20 to 40 hours per week, paid at a minimum of $9 per hour.
Students must be rising PISD Juniors and Seniors in Fall 2015. (Student must be at
least 16 years old by June 15, 2015 in order to participate.) Students of low income and
would be first generation college students are encouraged to apply.
Student applicant requirements are specified on flyers and on the website
www.planomayorsinterns.org . They include having a minimum GPA of 3.0, excellent
attendance record, and strong motivation to excel in their future careers.
Intern applicants are required to attend the entire Intern Prep Day (7 hours on March 28,
2015) which ensures to employers that all interns have received training on the basics
of workplace behaviors and expectations. Interns will also receive training on how to
conduct job interviews.
Interns’ application information are forwarded to employers who then identify which
interns they want to interview at the Job Fair on April 24, 2015. The Job Fair is only
open to interns whom employers have chosen to interview.
Interns will be working for companies and nonprofits, and not for the Mayor’s Office.
There are a few internship positions with various departments of the City of Plano but
none specifically in the Mayor’s Office.
A celebratory luncheon will be hosted at the conclusion of the summer.
Intern applications are only available online at www.planomayorinterns.org . Application
deadline is March 15, 2015.
Students who cannot attend the Training Day on March 28 should NOT apply.
Students who cannot work the entire 8 week period of the internship should NOT
apply. (Students should treat this internship as any other job. If they were newly
hired into a “real” job, they should not expect to go on vacation within the first 2
months of employment.)
School transcripts are NOT required.
Students who were hired in 2014 internships are NOT eligible to participate again in
2015.
Students who applied in 2014 but were not hired ARE eligible to apply in 2015.
Teachers and school administrators may request that information sessions be held at
