More Anniversary than Ever Before
Karlsruhe will celebrate its 300-year anniversary with 500
events and 100 festival days!
2015 is sure to be an eventful year for Karlsruhe locals, as they
plan to celebrate their city’s 300-year anniversary with the longest
Festival Summer in history. Under the label KA300, locals and
visitors from all over the world are welcome to rediscover
Karlsruhe and marvel at the many exciting things going on this
summer. Guests can look forward to over 500 events ranging
from multi-day festivals and events of international importance
to neighborhood events just around the corner. The city’s vibrant
culture and science scene also have lots of interesting and
inspiring things to discover. In addition to 300 years of history,
the Festival Summer will also celebrate shared experiences and
convivial moments of enjoyment and happiness!
An All-Around Celebration
Karlsruhe Palace, the birthplace of the city, will serve as the
shining center of this year’s festivities. Every night, artists will
illuminate the palace with alternating light and video projections,
thus lighting the way for guests ﬂocking to the city to celebrate
Karlsruhe’s anniversary. The ﬁrst spectacular highlight is a four-day
opening show with events on Schlossplatz, in Durlach, throughout
downtown Karlsruhe. During the entire Festival Summer, guests
can also look forward to a colorful program of events from
morning to night at the pavilion in the palace park. Needless
to say, there is fun to be had all around Karlsruhe during this
once-in-a-lifetime festival!
In honor of Karlsruhe’s 300-year anniversary, a Large State
Exhibition dedicated to the fascinating personality of the city’s
founder will take place for the ﬁrst time from May 9 - October 18,
2015 in Karlsruhe Palace. The life of Karl Wilhelm was a symbol
of absolutism. While his contemporaries described him
as strong-willed, inquisitive, despotic, and vain, they also knew
him as a pragmatic, socially engaged economist and courageous
war ofﬁcer.
“The Master Collector Karoline Luise von Baden”
Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe
A Large State Exhibition dedicated to this passionate art
collector will take place from May 30 – September 6, 2015.
Karoline’s Mahlerey-Cabinets, which once encompassed 200
paintings, are the main focus of the exhibition. These cabinets
are a collection of Dutch masterpieces from the 17th century
and important French paintings from the 18th century.
“GLOBALE”
ZKM | Center for Art and Media
With the “GLOBALE”, the ZKM will present its newest art
exhibition of international renown from June 21, 2015 to
mid-April 2016. The exhibition focuses on the diversity and
richness of contemporary art around the world. By combining
art, science, technology, and democracy, it successfully shapes
an entirely new concept of art.
“Friedrich Weinbrenner”
Städtische Galerie Karlsruhe
The Städtische Galerie Karlsruhe will present an extraordinary
and fascinating exhibition dedicated to the life works of Friedrich
Weinbrenner from June 27 - October 4, 2015. This famous
classical master architect and city planner shaped the face of
Karlsruhe unlike any other.
