Mansfield and Warsop PAID FOR ADVERTISEMENT the voice of real local people, not party politicians Vote, Vote, Vote! However you vote on May 7th make your vote really count LOCALLY T hree very important elections are taking place on May 7th; the election of the MP to serve our town, the election of the Executive Mayor, the person who will run our Council for the next 4 years and the District Councillors who will represent their wards. Will voters want a Labour MP and a Labour Mayor? Kate Allsop, the Independent Forum candidate for Mayor certainly hopes not. Kate is an experienced Councillor who is pledging real local democracy and will not be bound by Labour Party political dogma and policies imposed from outside the District. Whatever your political views might be, it’s important that everyone turns out to vote on May 7th. On matters of national policy there will be plenty of debate on TV, radio and the national press to help you decide where to cast your vote. Locally, the choice will be more simple. 4 more years of no Council tax increases, no return of the civic limousine that Tony Egginton got rid of in 2003, no reopening of the Members private bar which Tony Egginton closed in 2002 and the continued drive for savings in the costs of running the Council again amply evidenced by the reduction in the number of Councillors from 46 down to 36. Kate Allsop was selected as the Independent Mayoral candidate and has pledged to offer more democracy on the things which impact our District the most. Living locally, thinking locally will ensure it’s the people who matter not their politics. It’s a two horse race but with local riders. The choice will be either an Independent Mayor or a Labour Mayor. Here’s what Kate has to say: Real Local Choices In choosing the Mayor, you will have two more votes. A first choice and a second choice of the person you want as Mayor, and finally you will have the opportunity to vote for your local ward councillor. This is the first time the national and the local elections are being held on one day. You have three different decisions to make. Labour Real Local Democracy If I am elected as your Mayor, I will continue to build on the work already done. I pledge to make Mansfield a cleaner, safer place to live and I will balance the Council’s budget with sensible financial planning. I will work with whoever you elect as your MP for the betterment of the District. I will have a Cabinet drawn from the best people for the job regardless of any political persuasion. Indeed, I want Mansfield to be the most democratic town in the Country. Local decisions should be made by local people who care about our community first and foremost, not by those who put their party political interests first. I will go the extra mile representing your views wherever I can to keep the District of Mansfield where it should be, continuously improving and putting people first. I will be driven by the views of the majority of our residents. I want to encourage debate among our young people and will encourage the local press to support my desire to engage with our young citizens, using every opportunity to do so. Real Efficiencies Over the last 12 years the Independent Mayor has streamlined the Councils work force and cut the number of Councillors. This has provided savings for the Council, allowing us to keep the Mansfield Council part of your Council Tax down. The Mansfield Independent Council led the way in 0% increases. There will be tough decisions to be made over the next four years to maintain cost effective services but I will always listen to your views. I will always look for new ways of working to deliver savings whilst protecting and improving the best possible services, by working with other councils, sharing services and keeping the District Councils budgets under control. There will be NO return to a civic limousines and NO return to a subsidised members bar for councillors paid for out of your money NATIONALLY Real Achievements In the 12 years that Mansfield has had an Independent Mayor the district housing stock has been revitalised with new bathrooms and kitchens after 30 years of neglect. New eco-friendly council houses have been built. Public toilets have been modernised. We have a brilliant new bus station. The business incubation premises have seen small businesses grow and prosper. Only an Independent Mayor and Independent Councillors can promise to put you, the people of Mansfield ahead of party politics. The only way you can keep our district Independent and answerable to you is to go out on the 7th May and vote Mansfield Independent Forum. Remember, decisions are made by those who show up and vote! Make your vote count on May 7th. It’s also a 2 horse race; we will either have a Conservative or Labour led Government. In Mansfield Sir Alan Meale is certain to be our MP at Westminster for a 7th consecutive time. UKIP a rank outsider, may come up on the rails. Our MP was rewarded for his public service in 2012 by being knighted, a decision that was met with some dismay in many quarters, particularly following the investigation into MP’s expenses by the Daily Telegraph newspaper in 2009 which showed Sir Alan had claimed £13,000 over four years for garden materials for his home. It remains to be seen whether the UKIP candidate, local man Sid Pepper, will make any inroads into Sir Alan’s majority by taking votes away from the Conservative candidate. The Tories have gained an average of just under 10,000 votes in the last two elections compared to Sir Alan’s average of 18,577 which has always left him with one of the safest Labour seats in the country. From the dizzy heights of the 1987 and 1992 results when around 30,000 people cast their vote for him, Sir Alan’s popularity has diminished with over 10,000 voters deserting him. So will it be a two horse race between Labour and the Conservative’s or will UKIP sneak up on the rails to take second place. Sir Alan Meale must be the odds on favourite to retain his seat for Labour. One thing is certain; Britain will have a new Government led either by David Cameron or Ed Milliband. Voting in the national election in Mansfield is not going to change that outcome. Party Whip! or or Labour Alan Meale’s a racing certainty - 1/10 on KEEP PARTY POLITICS OUT OF MANSFIELD Vote Independent Don’t allow the hard work since an Independent Mayor was elected in 2002 to run our town to be undone by a return to the politics driven by the Labour Party dogma that blighted Mansfield PAID FOR ADVERTISEMENT Your local Independent candidates for May 7th Make your vote count and keep party politics out of Mansfield Ron Jelley Grange Farm Bill Drewett Ling Forest Maria Gibson Portland Andrew Tristram Berry Hill Martin Wright I have lived or worked in Mansfield most of my life and represented the Berry Hill Ward since 2007.
