What You Need: Basket, stuffed dog, Bible, beautiful crown, ugly crown, and baby doll
What You Do:
Before the Bible History Lesson: Place the stuffed dog (Stormy Jane) in the basket and
set it just offstage. The crown and hat should be within reach of the Historyteller.
Historyteller enters.
HISTORYTELLER: “Well, friends, I’ve got a TRUE History Lesson for you today that I
think you’re gonna love! Somewhere around here is the basket I need to get started with
the Bible History Lesson. I don’t see it anywhere … hmmm … where could the basket
be? Wait a minute! I know who can help us: my best dog, Stormy Jane. Stormy Jane is
awesome at helping me tell stories. Only … (look around) … I can’t seem to find her,

either. Can you help me call her? On the count of three, let’s all yell, ‘Stormy Jane!’
One, two, three … STORMY JANE!”
SFX: Dog barking
(Walk offstage and grab the basket. Pull out Stormy Jane.) “There you are, Stormy
Jane. I sure am glad you found this basket. It’s really, really important to our History
Lesson today. (To audience) Do you want to hear a History Lesson about a baby, a
basket, and how [Bottom Line] God’s way is perfect? (Pause for responses. Place
basket and Stormy Jane to the side.) You do? Yay! I get SO excited because this
History Lesson is from the GREATEST book (hold up Bible)—the Bible!
“Now, our Bible History Lesson starts with a very mean king. (Place ugly crown on your
head.) Can you make an angry face with me? This was a very mean, grouchy, angry
king. (Make angry face.) Great angry faces. You guys look really angry!
“This king wanted to get rid of ALL the baby boys in Egypt. Isn’t that mean? (Take off
crown.)
“Now, in Egypt, there was a very nice woman. (Pick up baby.) She had a baby boy who
she loved very much. Let’s everyone pretend to hold our babies. (Pause so kids can
hold their ‘babies.’) Hi, baby boy. I love you. You’re so perfect!
“This mommy knew that God would want her to do whatever she could do to keep her
baby safe. And God’s way is perfect! So the mommy made a basket for her baby boy.
(Pick up the basket and put the baby in it.) And then she put her baby in the basket, and
she hid the basket in a bunch of tall grass along the Nile River.
SFX: Water lapping
“This mommy told the baby’s sister to keep watch and see what would happen to him.
Well, as the sister was watching, the Princess of Egypt came to the tall grass beside the
Nile River. (Put on beautiful crown.) She came to the Nile River to take a bath. But then
she heard something. (Cup ear.)
SFX: Baby crying
“What did she hear? (Allow children to respond.) That’s right! She heard the baby boy
crying. The Princess of Egypt went and found the baby boy in the basket. She named
him Moses, and she decided to take care of him. But she knew she would need some
help. (Take off beautiful crown.)
“So Moses’ sister walked up to the princess and said her mother could help with the
baby! (Pick up and rock baby.) And that’s what happened. The princess kept Moses
safe, and Moses got to be with his mother. Wasn’t God’s plan awesome? Isn’t God’s
way SO perfect?

What You Need: Bible, a crown, a tiara, a basket, a baby doll, blue butcher paper,
green butcher or construction paper, scissors, and tape
What You Do:
HISTORYTELLER: “Come here, everyone, and sit with me! It’s History time! Yay for
History time! Our History Lesson comes from this very special book—the Bible! (Hold up
Bible, give it a big hug, and lay it down.) Can you say, ‘Bible’?”
CHILDREN and HISTORYTELLER: “Bible!”
HISTORYTELLER: “We love the Bible because it has God’s truths in it. And God’s
truths are always, well, TRUE! Today’s Bible History Lesson is about a little baby boy.
(Place the baby doll in front of you.) His name is Moses. Can you say, ‘Moses’?”
(Pause.)
CHILDREN and HISTORYTELLER: “Moses!”
HISTORYTELLER: “Good job. (Place the babies in front of you.) Our Bible History
Lesson begins with a king—a really mean king. (Place crown on your head and make a
mean face.) This king ruled the people of Egypt. He said to get rid of all the baby boys!
That made the mommies sad. Show me your sad faces. (Pause.) But one mommy said,
‘No way, mean king,’ (shake pointer finger back and forth) and she put her baby boy in
a basket. (Place the baby in the basket.) She knew God wanted her to keep him safe.
He had big plans for this baby boy. This is Baby Moses. Say hi to Baby Moses.”
CHILDREN and HISTORYTELLER: “Hi, Baby Moses!”
HISTORYTELLER: “Moses’ mommy hid the basket in the reeds next to the river. (Place
the basket and baby next to the river at the reeds.) She sent his sister to watch and see
what happened. Along came the princess, the king’s sweet daughter. (Put a tiara on.)
She heard a baby let out a cry and went to find it. (Pick up the baby and give it a hug.)
The sweet princess knew just what she should do. She would take care of the baby! But

she knew she couldn’t do it all by herself. She would need help, but who could help her?
