On behalf of the Kilkenny GAA
Football Board I would like to welcome
both the Danesfort and Dicksboro
intermediate football teams, their
management teams, and supporters,
plus all others to Nowlan Park to-day
for the 26th final of the J.J. Kavanagh
and Sons Intermediate Football
Championship Final.
junior football championship when
they are away to the winners of
Kildare/Westmeath on the 8th
November.
Today's final features Dicksboro, who
were relegated from the senior ranks
last year, and Danesfort, who won last
year's junior football championship.
I would like to thank the following:
all the clubs for their help and cooperation in insuring that all our
league and championship matches
were played as scheduled and all the
referees and their officials who took
charge of our games during the year.
I hope that all players in today's game
will make themselves available if
selected for the Kilkenny football team
for their forthcoming matches.
For Dicksboro this will be their second
appearance in a intermediate final
having beaten Conahy Shamrocks
after a replay by 0-7 to 0-5 in the 1991
final.
On behalf of the Board I would like to
express our gratitude to our sponsors
J.J. Kavanagh and Sons for their
continuous support of our games.
This will also be Danesfort’s second
appearance in the final having lost to
Thomastown by 1-6 to 1-4 in 2010.
Tomás Ó Braonáin

KILKENNY INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL
CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL 1991
Dicksboro win the 1991 Intermediate Football
Championship Final Replay.
Dicksboro 0-7 Conahy Shamrocks 0-4
Although both teams failed to reproduced the
form they showed in the drawn game,
Dicksboro out-witted Conahy Shamrocks to
win their first intermediate football title in a
cold, wet, windy and muddy St. John's Park on
Sunday, and so completed the
intermediate double as their hurlers had beaten
Young Irelands in the hurling final a few weeks
early to become the first club to complete the
double.
Because of the weather the football was
disjointed and ragged, Effort all round was
worthy of top marks, and reflected the keen
interest in this replay by both camps.
Conahy had the better of things during the
opening half when they were backed by the
strong breeze. They promised a lot when Larry
Carroll and Paudie Brennan kicked points
during the opening eight minutes. When Declan
Downey kicked a nice point from a free in the
10th minute the signs looked good for them, but
although they dominated the rest of the half
their only other score came from a free from
Downey. Likewise the Boro's only score came
from a free scored by Mark Dowling.
Luck ran with the winners after the change
around and the wind gained in strength. In one
of their early raids, Mark Dowling was
grounded inside the -14th yard line but the
penalty by Robbie Dalton crashed off the
crossbar and came back into play with the
goalkeeper beaten.
Undaunted they continued to press forward and
points from Mark Dowling (free) and a pair
from Stephen Kennedy, the second a smashing
effort from 35 yards.
Dicksboro took the lead in the 47th minute
when Robbie Dalton converted a free and added
a similar score within minutes and just before
the final whistle Mark Dowling added a further
point.
For the winners centre back David Beirne was
the most influential player on view, Martin
Hanrick and Michael Hennessy dominated at
centre field, and Podge Stapleton, Liam
Kerwick, Stephen Kennedy, and Mark Dowling
were others who played their part in this
victory.
John Feane, Paudie Brennan, Declan Downey
showed most promise in the first half while
Kieran Brennan, Pat Gunner, and Canice
Brennan fared best afterwards.

Danesfort win the Junior football championship
and land the club's first adult football title
Danesfort 1-12 St. Patrick's 1-5
A strong second quarter, during which they
seriously out-scored the opposition, set up
Danesfort for an historic first victory in the
county junior football final in Castlecomer on
Friday.
St. Patrick's conceded five points during that
period while scoring just twice themselves, 0-3
to 0-9 adrift at the break.
Danesfort continued the forward charge after
the break, and additional points from the
accurate Tom Ryan and Richard Dunne as good
as put their name on the Jim Lyng Memorial
Cup as the gap stretched to eight points.
St. Patrick's had to wait until the 43rd minute
for their first score of the half, a point from
Kieran Delaney, and the same player converted
a penalty in the closing stages.
Danesfort's scorers: T. Ryan 0-5, P. Murphy 1-1,
P. Hogan 0-3, R. Devane 0-2, M. Woodcock 0-1
