Steppe filled with many picturesque villages as well as maize, coffee
and banana plantations. At the town of Makuyuni, you will turn

edge of the Rift Valley. Lake Manyara Serena Lodge
DAY 4 SUN 27 SEP 2015
LAKE MANYARA (BLD) After breakfast, enjoy a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. Watch for
hippo in the Simba River, elephants in the forest and Cape buffalo
on the open plains at Mahali pa Nyati, which means “the place of
the buffalo” in Swahili. Birdwatchers, you have more than 400 species of birds to delight you. Return to the lodge for lunch. Later,
visit Mto Wa Mbu, where you have time to walk through the village
and experience a taste of Tanzanian culture. There are 120 tribes
represented at Mto Wa Mbu. Lake Manyara Serena Lodge
DAY 5 MON 28 SEP 2015 LAKE MANYARA-SERENGETI NORTH
(BLD) Leave Manyara this morning and drive across the plains,
stopping for a picnic lunch enroute to the Serengeti. Serengeti
National Park is Tanzania’s largest and most famous park, and it has
the largest concentration of migratory game animals in the world.
It is also famous for its huge lion population and is one of the best
places on the continent to see them. The park’s 5,700 square miles
makes it larger than the state of Connecticut. Altitude varies from
3,120 to 6,070 feet. Nearly 500 species of birds and 35 species of
large plains animals can be found in the Serengeti. Arrive at the
brand new Serengeti Explorer Camp in time for lunch and then
later, an afternoon game drive. Serengeti Explorer Camp
DAY 6 & 7
TUE & WED 29 & 30 SEP 2015 SERENGETI NORTH
(BLD) In the local vernacular, Serengeti means ‘the endless plains
that go up to the sky’. The Serengeti is also famous for the big
cats. Thanks to the large food supply provided by the plains game,
the big cats are also found in large numbers. Cheetahs love the
kopjes as they provide excellent vantage points for spotting prey.
If you are lucky you might spot the fringe-eared oryx or the shy
klipspringer. Watch the rocks for the rock hyrax...the closest relative
to the elephant! Bird lovers will be busy checking off species from
their list. Look for the Ruppell’s long tailed starling, Griffon vulture,
kori bustard, ostrich and the colorful lilac-breasted roller - to name
just a few. Enjoy two full days of game viewing. Serengeti Explorer

DAY 8 THU 01 OCT 2015
SERENGETI SOUTH (BLD) Today,
move further south in the Serengeti, following the path of the
migration, and your luxury camp located in the Moru Kopjes area.
Paying homage to the mobile camps of the 1930’s, a time when
an African safari was truly a journey into the unknown, Serengeti
Pioneer Camp’s ‘zero footprint’ and close proximity to nature
combines to make an unmistakably distinctive and truly individual
offering. Comprising of ten-tented accommodations, all of which
have en-suite facilities including a flushing toilet, vanity basin, and
showers, the tent interiors are designed to evoke the very best of an
era long-gone but certainly not forgotten. Serengeti Pioneer Camp
DAY 9 FRI
02 OCT 2015 SERENGETI SOUTH (BLD) Enjoy a
full day of game viewing. Game viewing in the Serengeti is never
disappointing, as the park has one of the highest concentrations of
game in Tanzania. Plains game like Coke’s hartebeest, Thomson’s
gazelle and Grant’s gazelle are plentiful. So too are buffalo and wildebeests. Wildebeests sometimes bear the brunt of jokes because
of their “funny looking” appearance. Some say the wildebeest was
made of spare parts. But it has adapted well to the environment
and the sheer number of wildebeests on the plains will amaze you.

DAY 10 SAT 03 OCT 2015
SERENGETI-NGORONGORO (BLD)

Ngorongoro Lodge welcomes guests with large overstuffed chairs,
rich wood decor and warm welcoming fireplaces throughout.
Cottages are spread throughout the grounds, with vegetable patches
lining the paths and panoramic vistas through your large glass
doors. Oldeani Ngorongoro Lodge

might find high concentrations of plains game like Thomson’s gazelle, buffalo, eland, hartebeest, impala, waterbuck and much more.
There are 8 distinct zones in Tarangire, from seasonal swamps to
open plains and acacia woodland. Look (and listen) for the spotted
hyena whose distinctive “whoop” is often heard through the still
of the night. Thanks to the plentiful supply of food, predators like
lion, leopard and cheetah are well represented in Tarangire. More
than 300 species of birds have been recorded in Tarangire, so keep
your eyes peeled for the bateleur eagle, ground hornbill and abundant species of bee-eaters and rollers. Tarangire River Camp

morning as we drive through the conservation area to the rim of
the crater. We then descend through the early morning mists 2,000
feet into the crater for game viewing.
This is a microcosm, Africa in miniature, where we will see the
animals at close distance. Lions will lope along the paths close to
our vehicle, spotted hyenas will lie besides the road, elephant are
in the forest and perhaps a leopard hiding in the tree limbs, large
herds of cape buffalo will approach and stare, perhaps we might
see a cheetah stalking a kill, the black rhino appears, and the pods
of hippo floating and grunting in the pool will watch as we eat our
picnic lunch. Watch out for the monkeys and baboons, and the kite
birds eager to steal your lunch. This is just a sampling of this very
important day! Oldeani Ngorongoro Lodge
