PRIX EUROPA 2015 REGULATIONS TELEVISION PREAMBLE PRIX EUROPA - The European Broadcasting Festival – is the programme-makers’ festival among the media festivals. Looking for the best television, radio and online productions from Europe, it invites programme-makers and editors to find the winner within their genre. These unique juries assess and evaluate all competition entries in a public debate and then vote for the best. This makes PRIX EUROPA a first-class training platform, a multinational market place as well as a forum reliably highlighting the latest media trends and championing quality broadcasting for all Europeans. 1. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR PRIX EUROPA is looking for the best of television – Made in Europe. PRIX EUROPA is looking for television entries, which by the quality of their content and form equally convince audiences and professionals. The programmes should bear the cultural imprint of their place of origin, yet also reach people of other cultures, thus making them suitable for screening outside of the country in which they were produced. 2. WHO MAY ENTER PRIX EUROPA TELEVISION is open to all television organisations, production companies and independent programme-makers based in Europe, given they hold the festival rights for the entered production. PRIX EUROPA 2015 REGULATIONS TELEVISION 1 3. CATEGORIES The PRIX EUROPA 2015 TELEVISION competition will be held in four categories. The submitter decides the category in which the production should compete. * TV Documentary Category This category is looking for Television documentaries up to 90 minutes. * TV Fiction Category This category is looking for - TV dramas with a complete storyline (minimum length 30 minutes) and - episodes from TV fiction mini-series and serials. * TV Current Affairs Category This category is looking for journalistic research programmes focusing on in-depth information and investigative journalism. Programmes that follow up key contemporary matters not afraid to tackle controversial issues and vouch for demanding and responsible journalism. The entries should be made for television and not for theatrical release, and stem from regularly broadcast television formats. Minimum length: 15 minutes. * TV Iris Category Under the Patronage of NTR - the Dutch Public Broadcaster IRIS invites programmes that deal explicitly with the culturally diverse character of European societies and contribute towards equality, understanding and tolerance between people of different origins, cultures and religions. IRIS seeks to be an incentive for programme practitioners to devote their attention to the ethnic diversity aspect of European societies. Programmes can be fiction or documentaries, children or entertainment programmes, that have “cultural diversity” as central theme. There is no minimum or maximum length. PRIX EUROPA 2015 REGULATIONS TELEVISION 2 4. NUMBER OF ENTRIES Each submitter may enter a maximum of 2 programmes in each of the categories TV Documentary, TV Fiction, TV Current Affairs. There are no restrictions in the TV IRIS category, but please note that the programmes are nominated strictly on the merit of their cultural diversity. 5. ELIGIBLE PERIOD All television entries to PRIX EUROPA 2015 must have been produced after 1 January 2014. Programmes that have not yet been broadcast are also eligible. 6. PRESENTATIONS All entered programmes will be available free of charge to all festival participants and the reporting media in the Programme Library during the festival week: 17–24 October 2015. In all competition categories, only the programmes nominated by the Festival Office will be competing for the PRIX EUROPA Awards. 7. ADJUDICATION In all the competition categories at PRIX EUROPA the adjudication lies in the hands of an open Jury Group which undertakes to examine all the entries together, to discuss them in public and then to assess them using a points system. Each Jury Group will be a professional forum of programme-makers. Each final candidate organisation will be obliged to send a Jury Member to present its entry and to take part in the adjudication as a member of the Jury Group. Irrespectively of having submitted a programme into the competition, all TV organisations, production companies and independent filmmakers are invited to send Jury Members to serve in the Jury Group. In addition, Observers may participate in all sessions of all Jury Groups. Observers may take part in the discussions but not in the adjudication. PRIX EUROPA 2015 REGULATIONS TELEVISION 3 8. AWARDS 2015 TV Documentary * PRIX EUROPA Best European TV Documentary of the Year TV Fiction * PRIX EUROPA Best European TV Drama of the Year * PRIX EUROPA Best European TV Fiction Serial or Mini-Series of the Year TV Current Affairs * PRIX EUROPA Best European TV Current Affairs Programme of the Year TV Iris Category * PRIX EUROPA IRIS Best European TV Programme of the Year about Cultural Diversity 9. ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE PRIZE WINNERS On Friday, 23 October 2015 all prize winners will be officially announced during the Awards Ceremony. 10. PRIZE MONEY & TROPHY Each prize amounts to €6,000. The prize money will be paid by the Organisers to the person/s (authors, directors, producers, camera persons etc.) named by the entering organisations. The PRIX EUROPA TROPHY will be handed over to the representative of each winning entry at the Awards Ceremony on Friday, 23 October 2015. The Festival Organisers expect the prize winner to attend the Awards Ceremony in person – or to send a representative. PRIX EUROPA 2015 REGULATIONS TELEVISION 4 11. DEADLINES Submission: By 1 July 2015 the PRIX EUROPA Festival Office in Berlin must have received: a) submission forms, duly completed online at www.prixeuropa.eu b) video files of each registered production, if possible with English subtitles uploaded to the server (details of where and how to upload are detailed during the online registration process) c) TV fiction mini-series/serials: summary of the storyline of the complete series please mail to [email protected] Pre-Selection: By 31 August 2015 each submitter will be informed about the results of the pre-selection. Selected Programmes: By 23 September 2015 the submitters of the selected programmes must send in the following: a) an uploaded video file of the selected programme for screening purposes (details will be communicated) b) personal registration form, duly completed (online) of the Jury Member who will represent the submitting organisation in the Jury Group c) photographs: a film still, picture of the author/director for use free of charge and press kit (if available) please mail to: [email protected] PRIX EUROPA 2015 REGULATIONS TELEVISION 5 12. THE SMALL PRINT If a submission wins the submitter will mention the PRIX EUROPA award in all subsequent promotional and press material. Productions entered into the competition may not include any commercial advertising. Commercial breaks have to be edited out to ensure continuous screening. A co-production will be regarded as the entry of whichever organisation submits it. All co-production partners must be named on the registration form. It will be presumed by the Organiser that the other co-producers have agreed to the programme being entered. The Organiser shall have the right to release excerpts of up to 5 minutes from any entry for screening free of charge by TV stations reporting on PRIX EUROPA 2015 or for use on the Internet. All graphic material sent in by the submitters will be released free of charge for use in all publications on PRIX EUROPA 2015 (press, printed material, Internet). The Organiser will keep the files of all competing productions for its archives. These rules are issued in English. Any entry failing to comply with these rules may be disqualified by the Organiser or the relevant Jury Group.
