The journey to an elite healthcare education starts here.
1
The Leader
of a Vision
The initial spark for the concept of KPJUC was lit by Datin
Paduka Siti Sa’diah Sheikh Bakir – KPJ Healthcare
University College Chairman and KPJ Healthcare Director and
Corporate Advisor. By establishing a teaching facility under the KPJ
umbrella, the ultimate goal was to continually enhance the nursing
profession in Malaysia by upgrading the standards of education
and training. Nurses are crucial to the hospital, and KPJ
knew that to be a world-class healthcare provider then its
nurses must be world-class too. And that they are.
The foundations were laid to create an institution of learning
where the values and principles of KPJ will be imparted to the next
generation of healthcare professionals. They comprise Ensuring
Safety, Delivering Service with Courtesy, Performing
Duties with Integrity, Exercising Professionalism at All
Times, and Striving for Continuous Improvement.
These are the values that have helped make KPJ into Malaysia’s
largest private healthcare provider. It is also how KPJ hospitals have
reached the pinnacle of success.14 hospitals in Malaysia have
been accredited by the Malaysian Society for Quality in
Health (MSQH), including four which have been accredited
by the Joint Commission International (JCI) – the gold
standard for healthcare management.
A Robust Hospital Network
At KPJ hospitals, a team of 10,000 staff – both medical and nonmedical – and more than 1,000 specialists and consultants are
driven by one single goal – to provide the best quality care
possible to all patients as well as give peace of mind to their
loved ones and families.
In terms of medical expertise, KPJ prides itself on
achieving excellence in fields such as radiology,
neurology, cardiology, bariatric surgery and weight
management; along with oncology, ophthalmology,
orthopaedics, paediatrics, reconstructive surgery,
and obstetrics and gynaecology.
In addition, KPJ hospitals employ cutting-edge medical
technology to provide patients with first-class diagnostics
and treatment. Hospitals are also equipped with top-ofthe-line surgical facilities. These include state-of-the-art
cardiac operating theatres for cardiologic and cardiothoracic
treatments and surgery, and Malaysia’s first and only Digital
Operating Theatre, located in KPJ Tawakkal Specialist
Hospital.
Hands-on Development
What does this translate to? Simply, KPJ offers the most
unique environment possible for our students at KPJUC to
acquire practical, hands-on training from some of the top
specialists in the country. Of course, we do more than just
teach them the theory and practice of healthcare. We also
imbued in them a sense of duty and pride, and a professional
ethos that has resulted in the KPJ name being respected
throughout the wider-world of healthcare.

unrivalled real-world network of
healthcare excellence”

Where Medical
Minds Flourish
KPJUC has come far in the decades since it first opened as Puteri Nursing College in 1991.
From being a college of nursing, the education institution is now a university college offering a
wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, in all areas of healthcare science and
management. Among its accolades are being the first and only private university college with
the permission to offer specialist post-graduate medical specialist training programmes, for
Masters of Othorhinolaryngology, Radiology, and Paediatrics.
Prof Dato’ Dr Lokman Saim , the President and Dean
of the Medical School, helms an institution which has achieved
many firsts. Presently, KPJUC has approximately 2,500 students
enrolled. While the majority are based at the main Nilai campus,
the remainder are study at the two branch campuses in
Penang and Johor. The opening of these auxiliary campuses is
a reflection of the demand which KPJUC has received
from the industry for a KPJ-value inspired education
framework.
Why KPJUC?
What makes a KPJUC education so desirable? First and foremost,
the syllabus provides the most comprehensive theoretical and
practical training for the doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and
other healthcare professionals. Secondly – the opportunity
of clinical training at via the 25-strong KPJ Specialist Hospital
network, providing invaluable hands-on learning in a real hospital
environment.
The power of the KPJUC brand and reputation are a key
that will unlock opportunities in the healthcare sector
for graduates.
The purpose-built campus in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, also provides
students and faculty with an environment that is conducive
for their studies and research. Coupled with state-of-the-art
facilities and a teaching faculty who are not only dynamic but also
practising healthcare professionals, students are able to learn
from those with real-world knowledge of the industry’s demands
and trends.
More than just academic development, KPJUC provides the
opportunity for social and personal development thanks to a
proactive student body, which regularly organises activities aimed
at enhancing camaraderie among students.
While impressive by themselves, these traits – when
put together in one single establishment – becomes
the recipe for an institution that aims to be the premier
choice for healthcare education, not only in Malaysia but
also in Asia and the world at large.
“By enrolling in KPJUC, our students are
joining one of the best families in the
healthcare world – the KPJ family. With
25 hospitals throughout Malaysia, the
KPJ network is the largest in Malaysia,
and no other institution of learning
dedicated to healthcare can boast even
half of that. Simply put, our students
can be assured that they are ready to
practise as caring, passionate and skilful
healthcare professionals.”

The Hallmarks of
High-Standard Healing
“The establishment of the school marks another
significant milestone for KPJ Healthcare University
College. The School of Medicine focuses on medical
specialist training programmes that are of relevance
to the needs of the country. We are the first private
education institution in the country, approved to
conduct medical specialist training programmes. The
programmes underwent stringent quality checks and
are approved by the Post Graduate Medical Specialty
Conjoint Board, the Malaysian Qualification Agency
and the Ministry of Education. The training of the post
graduates will be done at established KPJ Healthcare
hospitals, accredited by the respective Specialty Conjoint
Board. They will be trained under the apprenticeship
of experienced KPJ medical consultants, with
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) providing the
guidance in the curriculum design and assessment
to ensure a high quality. The hallmark of the
training programme is ‘one-to-one’ handson apprenticeship, where each candidate is
supervised by medical consultants of the
respective speciality.
The School of Medicine has created history
and opened a new era in the education
and training of medical specialists in
the country. These specialist training
programmes, conducted at KPJ hospitals
with assistance from UKM, are an excellent
example of the close collaboration
between public and private universities, to
produce more specialists for the country.”
School OF
Nursing
KPJUC’s
most sought-after
programme
One of the most critical and important roles in healthcare,
Nursing requires a true passion for the human spirit. The
programs offered by KPJUC focus on providing a humanistic
and holistic approach to nursing.
“Nursing is 50% theory and 50% practical,
so being able to plug into the KPJ
hospital network is an invaluable asset
to all of the Nursing programmes that
we provide at KPJUC. Our on-campus
facilities are excellent too – from sub-skills
laboratories to the central library.
On the academic side, we are moving
toward student-centred learning rather
than just lectures, and student placement
and graduation is high: we are proud to
have a 100% pass rate in the Nursing
Board examinations.”

With a strong interest in science, students on these programmes want
