Case Study International expansion made easy for Kwebbl Customer Kwebbl Business Cloud communications and collaboration solutions provider Sector Communications Challenge To meet customer demand by expanding its cloud communications platform throughout Europe. To avoid the complexity of contracting with multiple national operators. To maintain compliance with local regulations Solution Voice, SIP trunking solutions Products and services Colt Number Hosting With Number Hosting and SIP trunks from Colt, Kwebbl can focus on building out its cloud communications platform The founders of Kwebbl had a dream: to allow people to communicate and collaborate anytime, anywhere, using any device. To realise that dream, they designed and built a next-generation cloud platform – a hosted PBX in the cloud that integrates a full suite of communication and collaboration solutions. The service, sold through carriers and service providers, offers all the applications you’d expect from a PBX, including corporate voice communications, presence and messaging, audio and video conferencing, and contact centre solutions. “The disadvantage of a traditional PBX is that it’s hard to scale, and needs a lot of data centres to do so,” says Ivo de Vries, Chief Commercial Officer and co-founder of Kwebbl. “But we built our service in the cloud from the start. So it doesn’t come with any ‘pre-cloud’ baggage that could hamper growth, and it’s easy to extend over our existing infrastructure.” That’s just as well, as within eight months of service launch, 30,000 devices were already connected to Kwebbl’s platform, with thousands more in the pipeline. Fixed–mobile convergence: a service differentiator The Kwebbl platform is hosted across three data centres in the Netherlands in a cloudnative distributed design, and uses loadbalancing techniques to ensure high levels of resilience and availability. Each end-user device connected to the Kwebbl platform is treated as a SIP endpoint – even mobile devices. Connecting mobile devices in this way is a unique aspect of the Kwebbl service. It’s made possible by an API Kwebbl developed for mobile carriers that lets SIM cards act as SIP devices. “People have been talking about fixed– mobile convergence for decades but there’s never been a truly satisfactory solution – until now,” says de Vries. Organisations can integrate mobile phones smoothly into their dial plans and contact centres, and endusers can easily switch calls between their fixed phones and mobile devices. “With Colts Pan-European carrier-grade network, retail call quality and traffic reporting tools, we can ensure the right service quality for our end-customers without a need for building own specific expertise to manage our voice service.” de Vries adds. A great service that deserved a wider audience Kwebbl knew it had a great service with broad appeal, but its previous network setup meant it was restricted to organisations in the Netherlands. // Until we started working with Colt, our service was restricted to the Netherlands. Now, we can deliver full PBX functionality and local phone numbers throughout Europe. // Ivo de Vries Chief Commercial Officer Kwebbl “Our reseller partners were knocking on the door, wanting to sell Kwebbl in other countries,” says de Vries. “Now that we’re working with Colt, we can deliver full PBX functionality with a high-quality voice service and local phone numbers throughout Europe.” European service delivery is made possible by Ethernet connectivity to Colt’s secure, private IP network, combined with Colt Number Hosting, a Europe-wide number management service. Dedicated Colt experts in each country manage country specific requirements on Kwebbl’s behalf, in full compliance with local regulations. Kwebbl only needs a single VoIP interconnect with Colt to manage their Voice traffic. Having access to Colt’s B2B interface Cocom and online tools that allow them to manage their business and keep control — Kwebbl doesn’t have to invest in IT systems to support its numbering requirements, or deal with multiple national operators. “Being able to rely on Colt’s local knowledge of each country’s regulations and processes takes a huge weight off our minds, and frees us up to focus on developing our business,” says de Vries. Simplified configuration, advanced security Just as Colt makes things straightforward for Kwebbl, Kwebbl removes complexity for its users, with a smart interface that makes configuring a PBX as simple as playing with building blocks. “Our customers tell us how much they like the interface. They don’t have to install anything or use the command line – they can do everything through their browser,” reports de Vries. Kwebbl can manage all end-customer numbers with Colt’s online B2B interface Cocom. Colt’s API allows Kwebbl to integrate its platform to secure that end-users enjoy the same simplicity – with an interface they can use on any device to manage their own groups, numbers and dial plans; design IVR menus; and manage call queues. Kwebbl also features a sophisticated fraud detection system to protect against losses caused by unauthorised calls. By monitoring an organisation’s usage pattern, the fraud detection system learns what is ‘normal’. If the pattern suddenly changes, the system raises alerts so that Kwebbl and the customer can take action. Europe today, tomorrow the world With Kwebbl’s European expansion strategy well underway, and plans to go further afield in the future, de Vries is in no doubt about the value of the partnership between Kwebbl and Colt. “Colt has network and people in all the countries where we want to do business. So I don’t have to travel all over Europe or negotiate with lots of different providers. Whatever I need, I simply pick up the phone to my Colt account team,” says de Vries. “And because Colt has such strong coverage, they can help us do more than simply extend our service – they can also introduce us to a much broader international market.” Contact Colt: call +44 (0) 20 7390 3900 email [email protected] www.colt.net ©2015 Colt Technology Services Group Limited.
