CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
K-2 CLASSES
Birds of a Feather Flock Together
Grade Level: K-2
Instructor – Kyle Heiselmann
Explore the world of birds. How do birds fly? What do they eat? How do birds
make their nests? Learn about the different types of feathers and beaks. How
does wing span and size affect flying? How do bird wings relate to airplanes? Let’s fly paper airplanes
and measure their distance. We will go bird watching, paint birdhouses, and make bird feeders.
Incredible Insects
Grade Level: K-2
Instructor – Jennifer Pearce
Examine shining dragon fly wings. Learn why bees hum. Research what
makes insects similar to one another. Locate and observe insects in their
native habitat. Create an insect habitat from recycled objects. Insects
really are incredible!
Title: Where the Wild Things Are
Grade Level: K-1
Instructor – Sarah Austin
Children will become their own "wild things" when we read the book Where the Wild Things Are. We
will build a classroom boat, design puppets, masks , traps and even track the "wild things" outside.
Children will also be doing an author study and writing their own story about what happens to Max once
he returns home from the island of wild things. This fun and entertaining class will bring out the
imagination of your little one!
Title: Bubbles
Grade Level K-2
Teacher: Bethany Palmer
In this class, students will have fun exploring science with bubbles! We
will conduct interesting bubble experiments, design and create our own
bubble wands, research and explore the best bubble solution and create
bubble prints. Along with all the fun, we will be learning about the science
behind what makes bubbles work.

3-5 CLASSES
Science Experiments
Grade Level (Grades 3-6)
Instructor – Ashley Miu
Ever wonder what crazy science experiments work... and which ones are just myths? Join our class to
conduct fun, crazy science experiments and ultimately, to design your own experiment. Be prepared for
some messy fun!
Get Moving and Get Fit
Grade Level 4-6
Instructor - Nancy Castelein
Have fun learning how to eat fit and be fit. Play games and a variety of activities to promote a healthy
lifestyle. We will be making and eating fun and nutritious snacks. Come prepared to move around!
Building a House out of Nature's Gifts
Grade Level: 3-5
Instructor – Lynn Miller
In this class students will gain an awareness and appreciation for natural
things. Mother Nature provides an endless supply of materials that can be
recycled into something beautiful. Students will design their homes and
then decorate them from found objects that we will gather on nature
walks. Each student will be encouraged to be creative and will have a feeling of accomplishment when
they see what they have built. They will be encouraged to always see the beauty and potential of the
natural wonders of the world.
Title: Lil’ Baker
Grade Level 3-5
Teacher: Bethany Palmer
In this class, students will have fun using their science and math skills in the kitchen! Each day we will
focus on a different recipe, discuss the science behind why the recipe works, and work on reading
recipes and following directions. We will then put all those skills to use by making delicious goodies that
we can eat!
Title: Calling all Ocean Lovers!
Grade Level 3-6
Teacher – Nancy Castelein
We will explore aspects of the ocean through games, projects, and snacks. Get ready for a fun-filled
week exploring the world underwater!
3
Title: Discover Technology
Instructor – Tiana Rabe
Grade Level – 3-5
This is your chance to explore some of the coolest webbased tools! The goal of this class will be to learn basic tech skills while at the same time using
technology to be creative and collaborative. You will have an opportunity to create and present projects
that are unique and fun. Come join the fun as we use technology every day to inspire and challenge
you!
Title: Birds of Prey
Grade Level: 3-5
Instructor – Carie Ruhl
Students will have the opportunity to discover and learn about Wisconsin’s birds of prey: hawks, owls,
eagles, and falcons. This exciting class will include activities such as using the scientific method to
become a field biologist, building a paper wing to learn about the Bernoulli Principle (greater air speed
lowers air pressure), and discovering what owls eat by dissecting an owl pellet.
6-8 CLASSES
Title: Stop Motion Animation
Grade Level – 6-8
Instructor – Kyle Getz
Is film or cartooning in your future? Students will be provided with iPads that
have apps which enable them to experiment with stop-motion
animation. Stop-motion animation can ultimately be used to create short
videos! It allows students an opportunity to demonstrate their creativity while also using a new
technological resource that can enhance their ability to demonstrate knowledge of a specific topic!
Title: Logic Puzzles and Games
Grade Level 6-8
Instructor – Mike Palmer
Students will work with logic puzzles and games, teaching critical thinking skills and strategies. We will
work on ways to develop and effectively apply critical thinking skills not only in academics, but in the
situations we face each day as well as decisions we will make in the future. In this class, critical thinking
and problem solving will become alive through the use of interactive games, puzzles, and
activities. Students will also be taught how to solve the Rubik's Cube, and each student will go home
with one at the end of the class.

Title: Upcycle Your Hacked Life
Grade Level 6-8
Instructor - Shani Allen
Did you ever wonder if life hacks work? Life hacks are simple tricks to make life easier, such as using a
toilet paper as a speaker, or a post it to clean a key board. In this class you will explore and review life
hacks; what works, fails and needs improvement. This unique class gives students hands-on trials of
ways to make life easier. They will also tap into their creative side by up-cycling recyclable items into
treasurers. Up-cycling is reusing an item in a new way like using a pizza pan to make a clock or a cereal
box into wall art. Like the saying goes one person's trash is another person's treasure.
Science Experiments
Grade Level (Grades 3-6)
Instructor – Ashley Miu
Ever wonder what crazy science experiments work... and which ones are just myths? Join our class to
conduct fun, crazy science experiments and ultimately, to design your own experiment. Be prepared for
some messy fun!
