Adult Services Manager
Full-time, exempt
JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision of the library Director, develop and promote the adult collection in a
variety of formats; promote reading and life-long learning by providing educational and
recreational programs to adults; identify outreach opportunities; provide reference, reader’s
advisory services and digital technology assistance; advocate for the library and its services in
the community; innovate new services when possible; act as a resource for branch managers;
and serve on the District’s management team.

Situated in the Palouse region of Idaho’s northern panhandle, Moscow is home to the
University of Idaho, with Washington State University eight miles across the state line. The area
hosts numerous outdoor recreation opportunities. The Latah County Library District serves
38,000 residents through its libraries, online services, and membership in the regional VALNet
consortium. The Latah County Library District is composed of the Moscow Library and six rural
branch libraries. It is an independent taxing district governed by a locally elected five member
Board of Trustees and a staff of 26 (16.85 FTE). Friends’ groups in all seven locations help
support special activities, facilities enhancement and fundraising for the libraries. The Latah
County Library District Foundation also works in cooperation with the Latah County Library
District to help fulfill its mission.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Select materials for the adult collection in a variety of formats, including print books,
print magazines, audiobook compact discs, music compact discs, DVDs, and
downloadable eBooks and eAudiobooks
Secure subscriptions to databases covering a variety of information resources
Manage departmental budget
De-select materials in adult collections as needed to maintain attractive, useful, and
current resources
Plan and coordinate library programs of interest to adults in the Moscow community
Work with other staff to maintain a regular schedule for rotation of physical materials
among branch libraries
Use creative, efficient ways to increase awareness of collections, online services and
programs
Develop digital literacy training opportunities to promote the eBook and eAudiobook
collections and to enhance patron computer skills
Coordinate displays by community groups in Moscow Library display case
In collaboration with other managers, maintain relevant portions of the library’s website
and social media platforms on a regular basis
Work on projects, committees and taskforces as needed
Participate in training workshops and other professional development activities
Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Personal Characteristics:
ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS, or bachelor’s degree and at least two years of experience
working in a library public services department
Reference librarian experience
Enthusiasm for the Library’s mission to enhance the cultural life of the community
Experience analyzing operational issues, identifying alternatives, recommending and
implementing solutions; interpreting and applying regulations or policies and
procedures; developing and monitoring a budget, collecting and analyzing data and
preparing reports
Excellent communication skills, ability to maintain positive, courteous and friendly
manner with patrons of all ages and with colleagues
Ability to: work independently with attention to detail; sit, stand, reach, squat, stoop,
and lift up to 25 pounds; read, write, and speak English; and see well enough to read
spine labels on top and bottom shelves
Desirable Qualifications, Education & Experience:
Adult programming experience in a public library
Collection development experience
ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS
