Lax Kw’alaams Band
For Members Only
April 23, 2015
You are invited to community meetings re: LNG development.
Dear Members,
We want to update you on the proposed Pacific Northwest (PNW) LNG Facility and Prince Rupert
Gas Transmission (PRGT) Pipelines Projects. These projects are to export Liquefied Natural Gas, or
LNG. LNG is natural gas that is converted into a liquid form, compressed and loaded onto specially
equipped LNG carriers and transported overseas for sale where it is converted back into its original form
at a regasification facility. The PRGT pipelines bring gas from northeast BC to Lelu Island where the
PNW LNG facility and shipping berth are to be located.
As a Council we have decided to seek guidance from our membership on whether you support the
development of these LNG projects, and the benefits packages offered to Lax Kw’alaams by the
proponents and the Province of BC for these projects.
We have scheduled six information meetings:
 two in Lax Kw’alaams on May 4 and 5 (at the school gym);
 two in Prince Rupert on May 6 and 7 (at Chances); and
 two in Vancouver on May 11 and 12 (at the Chateau Granville at 1100 Granville Street).
All of the meetings are scheduled from 7:00pm - 10:30pm in each location.
At the community meetings there will be presentations from Lax Kw’alaams advisors about the
environmental risks of the two projects and about the benefits offered by the proponents and the
Province if Lax Kw’alaams supports the projects. The project proponents will also give presentations
about the projects. Community members will be given an opportunity to ask questions and seek
clarification about the projects, and associated impacts and benefits.
It will be important to have as many members attend the meetings as possible to view the presentations,
ask questions, and provide comments. Membership will be asked to vote by a show of hands after
the presentations as to whether or not you support the development of these LNG projects, and
the benefits packages by the proponents and the Province.
Leading up to the meetings you will be provided with information bulletins, social media and website
updates to inform you on this very important issue. This information is available to members in hard
copy at the Lax Kw’alaams and Prince Rupert Band Offices.
Respectfully,
Mayor and Council
