APRIL 2015 NEWSLETTER
COMMANDER’S CORNER
Come on spring! And it is
right around the corner. We
have had some beautiful
warm days in March and I
hope you all enjoyed them.
As usual, St. Patrick's Day
celebration on Saturday,
March 14th was a success! I
would like to thank all of the
Auxiliary for a great meal
provided. I would also like
Walt Lee,
to thank all the sponsors who
Commander
helped make this event successful. I am asking the membership to support these
sponsors in the future.
At the next upcoming meeting on April 14th, we
will be accepting nominations for Post Officers for
the upcoming year. If you are interested in any position, please submit your name at the Post. Election
will be at the May meeting. Support your Post, treat
your volunteers well. Always remember our military
both here and abroad and pray for their safety.
Janet and I would like to wish everyone a Happy
Easter.
Walt Lee, Commander
AUXILIARY UNIT 11-11
Thank you for attending the St. Patrick’s Day festivities on March 14! We had the best attendance of any
other year! Annie’s famous meal of corned beef &
cabbage dinner was enjoyed by so many of our members and their guests. The many fantastic prizes for
the pickle raffle meant the tickets sold quickly. The
big winner – who bought the last pickle ticket and the
recipient of a night’s stay at The Lodge Casino & Hotel and buffet for two – was Patty Dall. Congratulation, Patty! Between the dinner and the Merchandise
Pickle, the Auxiliary raised well over $1,000 for its
charities! A special thank you to all the Auxiliary
members who donated their time, talents, and gifts for
this event. This fundraiser could not have taken place
without you!
A reminder that Auxiliary memberships are only $25
for 2015. If you have not yet renewed your membership, please contact Janet Lee. We would love to
have you remain an active part of our Unit! Invite a
friend or family member to join the Auxiliary too!

Vice President-Janet Lee and Jenn Fielder

CHAPLAIN
This is the time of year that is hard to name. Winter
still holds on but Spring is trying to get a foothold. Who can predict the time and date that we actually make the change? Some people say that they can
read tea leaves. Others have visions, dreams or a
feeling. I have talked to some of these people during
a search for a little girl that was missing. When they
would call with their "information", I would ask, "But
do you have hard evidence that we can pass on to investigators?" The answer was always the same. "No,
but..."
We are in the same boat. This is the time of year for
nominations to be made for election of officers at our
American Legion Post. What would you like to see
us do for the next Legion year? Who would be a
good officer in each of the positions on the ballot? Will we grow as a Post or will we slide backward? Hold our own? None of us can predict the
outcome but we can have a say in who our officers
are by nominating and being present to vote. We can
serve on committees. We can come to the monthly
meetings and participate, thus holding our elected
officers accountable. It is your Post as well as mine.
District 5 Convention is May 7th at Commerce City
Post 151. Anyone wishing to attend please see a Legion Officer. Our Jimmy Walker has announced his
intention to run for District 5 Commander.
Detachment meeting will be April 11th at Post 178.
DD214’s – The IRS is auditing Posts to ensure we are
complying with our internal records. Please take a
moment to check if you have one on file. Even if you
think you do, please check with us. They can threaten
our Charter if we are not in compliance. A local Post
was audited last year. Please take a moment to help
us. A few people have responded. Please check in
with us!
Renew! Renew! Renew! Recruit! Recruit! Recruit!
See you ‘round the post!
If you need membership or newsletter assistance
please contact Adjutant Lee at 720.272.1455.
My prayer is that next year can be our best year
ever. Let's join together to make it happen.
For God and Country,
Chaplain Norm Harpole
