NIT Rourkela has been placed in Top 10 Government T-School in DataquestCMR Survey 2015. This is India’s top tech schools rank based on survey of
colleges, employees and alumni which includes all IITs, NITs and CFTIs.
Prof. Sunil Kumar Sarangi, Director expressed his happiness and congratulated
all the stake holder such as faculty, officers, staff members, students, alumni and
all others who contribute to the growth and development of the Institute. This

Usage Statistics of Science at NITR (For One Year):
Liaison Programme Update
A user education programme with the help of Faculty Liaison Representative (FLR) Prof. S. Alam was
conducted by Library Representative Mr. D. P. Tripathi, AL, BPCL in Metallurgical and Materials
Engineering Department [MM] on 11.05.2015 in which 30+ users participated. BPCL briefly introduced
them about library resources and services being provide to the NITR library users. The department also
suggested some of the points which will be taken care by BPCL.
General News
Govt. may name Scientist Abdul Kalam as Digital India brand ambassador
The government is planning to assign former President and renowned scientist APJ Abdul Kalam as the
brand ambassador for its Digital India programme.
In this regard, a meeting has been scheduled to be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, wherein a
comprehensive plan for “Digital India Week” will be finalized. The event is likely to be held in July where
various ministries will launch a number of online services for the masses.

PM Modi to launch Smart City, AMRUT Projects on June 25
In an attempt to transform the urban infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally launch the
Smart City and AMRUT projects on June 25, 2015. The event will take place at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi
in the presence of various senior officials from state governments and Union Territories dealing with urban
affairs, including municipal commissioners and mayors.
Urban Development Minister, Venkaiah Naidu, said, “It (June 25) will be an important day for the urban
development sector and thereafter the main challenge for state governments and urban local bodies to get
things going for making effective use of huge investments by the Centre and other sources in the sector,”
He further added that the main objective of the two projects is to change the landscape by addressing the issue
of infrastructure gap in urban areas so that cities become more livable, further enhancing the business and
investment climate for the benefit of the poor.

Mr. D. P. Tripathi, AL, BPCL was invited as Resource Person by IIT Roorkee where he successfully conducted the
National Workshop on Open Source Solutions : Koha, DSpace, Joomla & Data Migration during May 4-8, 2015.

Mr. D. P. Tripathi, AL, BPCL was invited by Royal Institute of Management Bhutan to migrate the data,
implement Koha and establish Digital Library during May 18-22, 2015. He successfully completed the task and
also trained 31 library professionals of Bhutan on the topics Koha and DSpace.
