TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES
TITLE: SCHOLARLY COMMUNICATIONS LIBRARIAN (Open Rank)
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Texas Tech University Libraries seeks a dynamic, innovative and
collaborative individual for the position of Scholarly Communication and Copyright Librarian. The
successful candidate will work with faculty, staff, and students to convey an understanding of the
changing modes of scholarly communication, open access and copyright issues, and scholarly publishing.
This tenure-track position reports directly to the Associate Dean of Libraries for Outreach and
Information Services.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

















Assists the TTU community to share scholarly work and manage the complex copyrights
associated with those works and the works of other scholars.
Builds & sustains connections to university publications as appropriate to establish a continuum
of activity from traditional publishing through informal and open channels for scholarly
information sharing.
Assists and promotes publishing and the complimentary hosting of born digital publications and
collections
Works closely with digital preservation colleagues to help with creating and promoting
preservation services
Develops and delivers programming to raise the understanding and expertise of internal and
external staff related to scholarly communications, copyright, open access, and scholarly
publishing
Actively outreaches to increase awareness about scholarly communication issues, including
altmetrics and promoting ORCID IDs
Develops and or maintains tools, resources, and education programs related to publishing options,
agency specific requirements, author rights, and copyright/fair use concerns
Implements, maintains and develops reports / training models using PlumX
Collaborates with colleagues to build relationships with campus constituents related to scholarly
communications
Assesses scholarly communication efforts, campus needs and impact factors
Creates reports as requested.
Develops guidelines, policies, and best practices for the institutional repository and open access
initiatives, and advocates for deposit of scholarly content in the repository
Monitors legislative requirements, practices, and standards pertaining to scholarly
communications by government agencies, academic libraries, and interest groups, and
disseminates information broadly
Serves as a key resource for queries on copyright compliance and fair use pertaining to library
collections and instruction
Contributes to the profession’s collective knowledge by engaging in scholarly research activity
Engages in service to the Libraries, the University and to professional organizations by
participating in committee work, projects, and other contributory achievements
Collaborates with colleagues to create and promote data management services and procedures

Engages in scholarly pursuits and other professional activities in accordance with Texas Tech
Libraries’ standards for promotion and tenure.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program.
Preferred: Experience with scholarly communications and research. Academic library experience.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: The position is a 12-month appointment with a nationally competitive
salary. Librarians and archivists have academic status and are an integral part of the academic teaching
