The BUZZ had a blast taking pictures and dancing with the mascots at ACC Fan Fest. We had a great time playing games and enjoying the festivities that Fan Fest had to offer.. THE COLLEGE CHRONICLE Interview With… This month, The BUZZ visited Livingstone College and had a guided tour lead by Stacey. Since opening their doors in 1879, Livingstone has provided generations of students with opportunities to develop themselves academically, intellectually, and spiritually to their fullest potential. Stacey told us about some of her favorite classes and we told her about some of our classes that we take at Lindley College. When Stacey is not in class or studying for a big test, she enjoys going to the sporting events on campus. Stacey is a fan of the Tennis matches and the Track and Field events. THE COLLEGE CHRONICLE THE FURY Wellness | Relationships | Career Exposure | Community Service Highlights A Wish for a Friend Wishing you a rainbow For sunlight after showers— Miles and miles of Irish smiles For golden happy hours— Shamrocks at your doorway For luck and laughter too, And a host of friends that never ends Each day your whole life through! St. Patrick’s Day Party! This month the Fury students studied the history of St. Patrick and the origins of the St. Patrick’s Day holiday. We celebrated the Irish-American holiday by making and eating corned beef, stewed potatoes, sautéed cabbage, soda bread, and some delicious desserts! We ended our celebration by dancing a jig and wishing each other a “bit o’luck”! THE COLLEGE CHRONICLE Student Project Interview With… This month, the Fury students researched, designed, and built a set of corn-hole boards. These custom made corn-hole boards will be used at every picnic and game day that we have at the Clemmons Lindley College! Our students interviewed Jalisha from Winston Salem State University. Besides being in the process of earning her masters degree at WSSU, Jalisha is also a Hall Director at Brown Residence Hall. She is responsible for supervising 8 residential assistance and the units that they oversee. We learned that in order to be a Hall Director, you must be pursuing your masters degree, keep at least a 2.5 GPA, and have strong leadership skills. Our students asked Jalisha what are the some rules of living on campus. We we learned that students must show each other and the building respect, not have alcohol or drugs on their person or in their rooms, and girls and boys are not allowed to stay past curfew on each other’s floor. Violations of these rules may result in expulsion from the dorms. Thank you to Jalisha and WSSU for a great campus experience. Go Ram’s! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! March 27th THE COLLEGE CHRONICLE THE HURRICANES Wellness | Relationships | Career Exposure | Community Service Out in the Community The Hurricanes went to Concord Mills to visit the Sea Life Aquarium. The trip was very interesting, and our group really enjoyed seeing all the different creatures of the sea. The aquarium has been beautifully crafted to lead through a maze of exhibits. We had a chance to touch some of the creatures, like the orange starfish in it’s exhibit. We walked through a Glass Tunnel and saw thousands of fish swimming over our heads. THE COLLEGE CHRONICLE Wellness ACC Fan Fest As part of our Wellness curriculum, We went to the Greensboro Coliseum Complex to take part in ACC Fan Fest.. First, we took pictures and got our face painted with our favorite team’s logos. Next, we played some basketball mini games and won some cool prizes! We had fun seeing many of the ACC mascots. Some of our favorite mascots were the Duke Blue Devil, the UNC Ram, and the Clemson Tiger. we went to the Deep River Gym in Jamestown, NC to play a fun game of basketball. On this particular visit, we mixed things up a bit and played a game of Boys vs. Girls. This was a great workout for everyone. Interview With… The Hurricanes had the opportunity to see what it’s like to be a fireman during our interview with Marcus. Marcus lead us on a tour of the station and talked about some of their daily duties, such keeping the station spotless and trading off cooking meals. We spent most of the time in the garage where Marcus showed us the pole they use to slide down to the first level and we got to see all of the alarms flashing if there is a fire. When Marcus is off from the fire station, he likes to hit the gym to stay in shape and will occasionally play some video games to relax. THE COLLEGE CHRONICLE THE MOSAICS Wellness | Relationships | Career Exposure | Community Service Highlights The Greensboro Fire Department came to Lindley College to talk with us about fire safety. We had a great time learning about how to be safe when dealing with things that can cause fires, and what to do in an emergency. Jonathan was very nice and helpful! Out in the Community Our group went to the Colfax Farmer's Market. We did a scavenger hunt while we were there. Surprisingly, we ran into the Forsyth Fury group during our scavenger hunt. It was pretty neat getting to see our friends from Clemmons. After visiting the Farmer's Market, we decided to eat at the popular Moose Cafe for lunch. THE COLLEGE CHRONICLE Dairy Queen In March, we celebrated Dairy Queen's 100th anniversary. They were giving away free ice cream cones! It was a perfect, warm day for a cone to share with our friends. Interview With… We i n t e r v i e w e d a n d t o u re d at t h e Greensboro Public Transportation Depot. This transportation station opened in 1920. They came and picked us up on one of their public transportation buses. We learned a lot about the history of Greensboro from the tour they gave us of the bus station and the train station. This was such a beautiful place with a lot of history! The Waves are so excited to add new faces to our day program and expand the groups. This month we went to UNCW for our Special Olympics basketball skills day, we were able to participate in different skills such as dribbling to shooting free-throws. The students really enjoyed watching the team mascots play a game of 1-on-1. THE COLLEGE CHRONICLE Electives This month we really looked into the luck of the Irish. The Phoenix group made lucky charms, and pots of gold to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at the Coast! College Visit Every month, The Phoenix take a trip to UNCW to participate in a class on on campus. This month on St. Patrick’s Day, we joined Mr. Dan's group on campus and became super hero's that wore the color green! We had so much fun attending this class and helping UNCW students learn more about what we do at Lindley College. THE COLLEGE CHRONICLE NEW STUDENTS Lindley College is proud to introduce our newest students! Shereeta Shereeta loves to dance and shop. She always has a smile and really enjoys Lindley College!!! Grace Grace is an amazing addition to Lindley College. She is using her dancing talent in the Lindley College Music Club. THE COLLEGE CHRONICLE THE STINGRAYS Wellness | Relationships | Career Exposure | Community Service Highlights Out in the Community -Basketball Skills day with Special Olympics -Dr. Seuss' Birthday -Elks Lodge Dance This month, The Stingrays were extremely busy. One of our favorite activities was going to the Special Olympics basketball skills day at UNCW. We learned to dribble, pass and shoot the ball. The students had a great time playing on the same floor as the Seahawks basketball teams. Some of our students participated in a 3 on 3 game. We enjoyed pizza for lunch with all our friends. THE COLLEGE CHRONICLE Curriculum Interview With… We incorporated Dr. Seuss' birthday celebration into our cooking and art elective. We made green eggs and ham and “Cat in the Hat” hats to help us celebrate. This month we interviewed NC State student and football player Coult Culler, brother of one of our students. He spoke with us and ran a football clinic. We jokingly asked him if he was a Carolina fan. His obvious answer was a huge “NO”. Coult enjoys other sports such as Baseball, Basketball, and Hockey. THE COLLEGE CHRONICLE THE THUNDERCATS Wellness | Relationships | Career Exposure | Community Service Highlights The Thundercats took a tour around the Piedmont Airport. It was very neat to see an airplane up close. We were able to see some of the operations needed to run the airport on a daily basis. At the end of our tour we received a pilot's pin to wear. Out in the Community Our group was lucky enough to visit the ACC Tournament at the Greensboro Coliseum. We played fun games to win prizes and we received some free T-shirts as well. Some of us were able to get a lot of interesting items from the vendors with booths at this event. THE COLLEGE CHRONICLE Curriculum We have had some amazing cooking activities this month. We got an chance to make trail mix and some tasty parfaits. Both items were delicious and very easy to make! Interview With… We had an amazing time at the 102 jamz radio station. We got to actually be on the air and met the “Three Live Crew“ which include Roxy, B-dhat, and Drakens. They were very welcoming and nice to our group. We were able to stay and watch them work.
