grilling and there's no cloud in the
sky – take a towel, put on a
swimming suit, phone your
friends and go to the beach.

K – Key Club
Schools are open for everyone:
all the races, religions, views,
physical and mental abilities.
For disabled kids and those
who want to be friends with
them almost all the schools
have certain clubs. The
members meet once a week
during lunch and do something
fun together, plan activities for
weekends and arrange school
events devoted towards
special kids.
the middle of school day.
Students and teachers have 30
minutes (plus two breaks per 5
minutes, before and after) to
eat and relax. Some go out,
some eat in school cafeteria
where various meals are
offered. School lunch costs
around $3, which is pretty
good: average meal in a cafe
would cost about $10.
N – Navigation
Once a month every high
school student has one more
class on Wednesday:
Navigation. It's kind of "class

"Professional orientation".

understand what they want to
do after school, write essays
and letters to "future You".
Pretty interesting. And the
teacher always brings some
treats!
O – offices
In Russian schools all the paper
and organization work
basically does only poor
secretary plus some work is
given to teachers. In America
everything is divided between
departments — offices.
Attendance office works with
attendance obviously:
illnesses, missed classes,
tardiness. Activities office is in
charge of sports and various
school fees. Main office... All
the rest! This system works
great.

P – Pledge of allegiance
During the second period the
school listens to
announcements about various
past and future events. They
finish with the pledge of
allegiance: everyone stands up
facing American flag (yes, it is in
every classroom), puts the
right hand on heart and says: "I
pledge allegiance to the Flag of
the United States of America,
and to the Republic for which it
stands, one Nation under God,
indivisible, with liberty and
justice for all." Very patriotic.
Even though nowadays a lot of
kids ignore it and just keep
silence sticking fingers in their
noses.
S – Sports
Something really serious for
Americans! Forget about "lazy
fat" stereotype, sports make
people strong and happy, and
Americans know it. It's cool to
be in any sport team, it's cool to
be fit and healthy. The variety is
good, new sports for every
season: track, tennis,
swimming, basketball, softball,
golf, football and so many
more! But people really work
there: every day for 3+ hours!
As bonus you get awesome
friends there and feeling of the school district has a web

Blind civilization
By Ivory
… The aliens from the Planet
“Centaurs' Constellation”
were preparing for this
research trip to the Earth for a
long time. They counted all the
occasions, worked out the
strategy, equipped their
spaceship with all the
necessary things… It seemed
that all the things were ready
for the meeting with
neighboring civilization. The
inhabitants of Constellation
wanted just to make an
acquaintance with this blue
planet. They dreamed about
those times when the
inhabitants of these two
planets would exchange their
experience.
It turned out that the
creatures living in “Centaurs'
Constellation” had no art. They
couldn't paint pictures,
sculpture, write fiction, sing,
act, practice music, dance….
Undoubtedly, they had
feelings, but they just didn't
know how to express them.
The aliens recollected all the
information about the Earth
and decided that these people
could help them in their
education.
In their turn, they all were
good at engineering, medicine,
c o m p u t e r i n g a n d
mathematics. Their civilization
won over the epidemics of
birds' influenza, plague,
cancer. They elaborated
special drugs for these
diseases. They learned to avoid
drug addiction and
dipsomania. There could be
hardly noticed criminality and
violence in their society. And
these creatures were ready to
share their knowledge with
people from the Earth.

So, the noblest men were
sent to this expedition. They
touched down the Earth in a
picturesque place. Large lawn
was studded with flowers,
birds were singing their
marvelous lullabies, the sun
was shining brightly. Charmed
with all this beauty, the aliens
started to go on foot towards
the city. They found out that it
was not far from there,
because of the smoke from
large pipes, towering above
the tops of the trees.
At last they reached the city.
It was a large capital city with
monuments and parks, lakes
and historical buildings, ponds
and skyscrapers, museums and
galleries. The aliens were
shocked with all this
magnificence but they were
disappointed by the fact that
people who were dashing
around didn't notice this entire
splendor. People were rushing
at full speed on their cars,
hurrying somewhere, talking
on the phones; they sat peering
into their notebooks and PCs
and even didn't notice the
group of people standing in the
middle of the main square. It
was quite strange because the
people were of an unusual blue
color.
The leader of the aliens tried
to stop one of the passers-by.
But all his attempts were
unsuccessful. People said, even
not rising their heads, that they
were extremely busy, they had
to go, and they were absolutely
out of time.
By the evening despairing
aliens were sitting near the
fountain. That day they visited
the scientific institution and
the government of the
country. But everywhere
people didn't want even to
listen to them. The aliens
weren't believed that they
were beings from another
planet. In the street they were
stopped by a policeman. He
said that it was forbidden to
walk in the streets in such
costumes and they should
change their clothes.
The aliens were already
prepared for leaving this
planet. They got up and went
towards their spaceship… But
suddenly they saw a small
pretty girl. She ran to them,
holding something in her
hands. The girl came to them
and asked if they were aliens.
And when she got an
affirmative answer she asked if
they had met “The little
prince”. The aliens were very
surprised, because they had
never heard about him before.
So the girl asked them to hand
in a parcel for the prince if they
met him. She gave them a small
bag, kissed each of them and
ran away.
When they were on board
they unwrapped it. There was a
large Painted book and the
picture. In that picture there
was a little boy painted with
the crown, a fox and that girl…
They left Planet Earth
surprised and rather
disappointed by what they had
found. “Strange planet –
thought the commander of the
ship – these people have
everything but they don't want
to pay attention to it. It is more
pleasant for them to live only
by their own problems, not
knowing what is around them.
But – he thought turning over
the pages of the book – not
everything is lost while there
are children, believing in
miracles and adults, who are
able to create such books.”
And he put the book and the
picture into the bag with care.
They were the most valuable
things they had…
