Parish Council Website www.littletonandharestock.hampshire.org.uk March 2015 Message from the Chairman It is that time of year again when Spring is around the corner and the gardens begin to look fresh and new. Gardens are not the only area where new is to be found, we are soon to have a General Election, the local Council is also having elections and last but by no means least, the whole of your Parish Council is up for election. There are some present councillors who will be standing for re-election, but some will be standing down. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those not seeking re-election for their hard work in making this Parish a good place to live, and to wish them well in their future endeavours. This is also the last Parish Newsletter which will be delivered through your letter box. In future, there will be a monthly newsletter published on the Parish Council web-site, which will enable the Parish Council to keep residents more informed and up to date with what is happening in the Parish. On a general note, the Parish Council have received a number of complaints about the inconsiderate parking of contractors’ vehicles when work is being carried out on properties in the Parish. We would ask that if you are employing tradesmen of any type to do work on you property, then please ask them to park with due consideration to other residents and not park in private car park areas or in a manner which will obstruct or inconvenience other road users and definitely not to park on verges which will result in damage to the grass. Hope you have a good Spring and Summer, John Biddlecombe Parish Councillors and some of their duties (many of these details will most likely change after the 7 May election) Please visit the website for further information, to keep your club or society information up to date or to submit an item of interest that we can all read about—contact Brian Holloway via the website John Biddlecombe 881503 The Parish Clerk is: Christopher Tee Littleton & Harestock Parish Council Parish Office, The Hall Way Littleton, Winchester, SO22 6QL Telephone number 01962 886507 Joan Burgess Peter Highfield 886850 889426 Stan Boyce 883988 Bob Parker 884627 Rod Warren 881675 Hilary Saunders Viv Morton Email: [email protected] David Fountain (outside of office hours please use the answer-phone) Office hours Monday to Friday inclusive 8.30 – 12.30 Winchester City Councillors Kelsie Learney 886367 James Byrnes 07402114474 Hampshire County Councillor Phil Bailey 775275 883200 622505 880528 Chairman, Finance Committee, Planning (L), Traffic & Civil Engineering Emergency Planning , Military Liaison Public Transport (L), Playgrounds (L), Finance Committee Planning, Traffic and Civil Engineering (L), Finance Committee Hall Trustee, Police & Hants Assn of Local Councils Pavilion & Sports Club Planning & Public Transport (H), Littleton & Harestock Show Committee Liaison Finance Committee, Playground (H) Environment (H) Traffic and Civil Engineering (H), Finance Committee, Barton Farm Forum Volunteers Tree Wardens Alison Harper (L) 882261 Geoff Toogood (H) 881991 Conservation Field Warden (L) David Strugnell 880939 Tumulus Field (L) Chris & Alison Rice 880937 Littleton Pond Wardens Ros & Andrew Hobbs Hall and Community Room Bookings Both Harestock and Littleton have excellent facilities available for hire: Harestock Community Lounge contact Lisa Fleming or Tina Philips 888970 Millennium Memorial Hall, Littleton contact Katie Massey on 888419 1 INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING? LOW FLYING MILITARY HELICOPTERS Enjoy being active in your local community? Have you got a couple of hours free every week? We have agreed that representatives from RAF Odiham will be attending the Parish Council meeting on 8 June to explain the reason for low flying helicopter activities in this area. Please come along to listen to their presentation and questions and answer session that follows, if you can. That meeting will be held at Henry Beaufort School. Social isolation and poor nutrition are issues that affect significant numbers of older people. This is an opportunity to provide regular social contact to older people by way of a befriending visit alongside their Meals on Wheels delivery. Befriending visits will take place around lunch time on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis. They will be a chance for you to provide regular social contact; ideas on simple healthy snacks and meals; and information on what’s going on in your local community. Training and full support will be provided. We have now installed a new cone climbing frame at Littleton and finished painting all the existing equipment there. A new wooden climbing trial has just been installed in Bradley Road where a new additional bench has also been placed from Littleton. We are also in the process of organizing painting of all the equipment there as well as having all the rubber matting replaced, so that should make it much more pleasant for everyone to use the facilities there. Thanks to all who have helped or just given us input on these renovations. If you have any further ideas on how we might improve these facilities please let us know. Dog Fouling Many parishioners, walkers and sports facility users continue to voice concern about the problems of dog fouling on the Parish playing fields and Recreation Ground, both in Littleton and Harestock. It is a real nuisance and a potential health hazard and is quite unnecessary. It is unacceptable and has to be tackled somehow. We have recently put some new extra notices round the playing fields at Littleton to thank those who stop and pick up as well as to remind others to do so. We are aware that the majority of dog walkers who use the fields do so responsibly, pick up after their dogs and put the faeces in the bins provided and we thank them for that. The situation may be improving a little because of this but we all have to be constantly vigilant to keep our open spaces safe/clean. “30 MPH” ROUNDEL STICKERS FOR DUSTBINS STILL AVAILABLE TO HOUSEHOLDERS ON LITTLETON & HARESTOCK MAIN ROADS, please contact us if you wish to have some 2 THIS IS THE LAST PAPER COPY OF THE PARISH COUNCIL NEWSLETTER, IN FUTURE THERE WILL BE MONTHLY EDTIONS PUBLISHED ELECTRONICALLY ONLY ON THE PARISH COUNCIL WEBSITE 3 LITTLETON & HARESTOCK ORGANIZATIONS—CONTACTS (dialling code 01962 unless otherwise stated) ALL SAINTS FLOWER ARRANGING SOCIETY Kate Butler ALZHEIMER’S SOCIETY Helpline 890004 Helen Rich 883481 Brian Baxendale 886778 Diana Harvey 01420 561548 www.dianaharveybridge.net Shirley & Mike Lupton 884376 [email protected] ART GROUP BOWLING CLUB BRIDGE (TEACHING) CARE GROUP—Littleton Voluntary Care 862790 [email protected] CHURCHES St Catherine’s CofE, Littleton St Barnabas’ CofE, Fromond Rd, Weeke 880845 [email protected] Revd Philip Cochrane 809871 [email protected] Revd Jonathan Mutton 620716 Revd Dawn Carn 735278 [email protected] Andy Walker 07889 156780 [email protected] CROQUET CLUB Clive Thompsett 885039 [email protected] DRAMA - New Hall Players Daphne Poupart 882878 [email protected] Sarah Bartlett 882879 Nicole Ambrose 07860 509558 [email protected] Iris Lee 02380 616505 Sue Russell 621053 [email protected] Jim Shea 869554 [email protected] GARDENING CLUB Sally Macer 715699 HENRY BEAUFORT COMMUNITY COURSES Lisa Fleming 888970 Gillian Maskill 881151 [email protected] June Mott 861206 Mervyn Edwards 883347 Ann Parsons [email protected] 07748464915 Nursery Manager 888971 Carol Mortimer 776206 Victoria Smith 01489 877278 Bonnie 8827766 RESPONDER TEAM Mark Browne 07917 358856 [email protected] SHOW – LITTLETON & HARESTOCK Bert Spencer 881011 TENNIS Vivienne Aspin 880419 U3A (various interest groups) Check website www.u3a.hampshire.org.uk Sally Rouse 715542 [email protected] Jo Bonsall 882337 North Winchester Community Church Wesley Methodist Church CRICKET CLUB EXERCISE/YOGA ETC Aerobics & Over 50s Exercise Pilates Yoga Zumba Classes www.zumba-around-winchester.com FOOTBALL Littleton Junior Football Club HISTORY GROUP MACHINE KNITTING PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY (Winchester) PLAYGROUPS/TODDLER GROUPS Harestock Playgroup Henry’s Kindergarten, Harestock Littleton Playgroup Jo Jingles Music for one to five year olds St. Catherine's Toddler Group WESSEX QUILTMAKERS WOMEN’S INSTITUTE 4
