We are pleased to invite you to the 2015 Be Brave Luncheon in support of the Little Warriors Be Brave Ranch, a
safe, secure, and welcoming treatment centre where children are supported to heal from the damaging effects
of sexual abuse. Taking place on April 1st, this event will celebrate the tremendous bravery of each and every
child in our community who has been affected by sexual abuse.
Thanks to the incredible generosity and compassion of our donors, the Be Brave Ranch opened its doors in
September 2014—but more help is needed to continue offering children the chance for a brighter future. Our
goal for the 2015 Be Brave Luncheon is to raise vital funds for children receiving treatment at the Be Brave
Ranch so that they can heal and flourish into healthy adults.
This year, we are thrilled to welcome Matthew Sandusky as our keynote speaker. Matthew was 8 years old when
his adoptive father—former Penn State football coach, Jerry Sandusky—began sexually abusing him. Since
coming forward with his experience and enduring a high profile court case, Matthew has dedicated his life to
speaking out against child sexual abuse. He is an inspiration to survivors everywhere, and we are truly grateful
to have him share his remarkable story with us.

Event Overview
The Be Brave Luncheon brings people together to honour the tremendous bravery of all those who have
experienced child sexual abuse, and to recognize the courage it takes to come forward.

About Matthew Sandusky
In 2012, former Pennsylvania State University assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky was convicted on 45
counts of child sexual abuse. Halfway through the criminal trial, Matthew Sandusky unexpectedly revealed to
police that he had also been sexually abused as a child by Jerry Sandusky, his adoptive father.
The Sandusky case is considered one of the most high-profile child sexual abuse scandals to ever come out of
America. Following his disclosure, Matthew and his family faced extensive media scrutiny and intrigue, both in
America and internationally. Matthew has had to publicly defend the validity of his story on several occasions,
including when Dottie Sandusky, (wife of Jerry Sandusky), labelled the victims’ stories as false.
Having weathered the storm, Matthew Sandusky is now an advocate, activist and public speaker for the issue of
childhood sexual abuse. He dedicates his time, resources and personal experience as a survivor to being a leader
for positive change.
Matthew’s passion for the human spirit has led him to speak out about his own trauma and to be a voice for those
suffering in silence. As founder of Peaceful Hearts—a foundation dedicated to the elimination of childhood sexual
victimization and trauma—he and his wife Kim “hope to create a world where people come together and create a
safe environment for all children and survivors.”

Purpose of the Event
All funds raised at the 2015 Be Brave Luncheon will go directly to funding treatment programs for children at
the Little Warriors Be Brave Ranch, the first facility of its kind dedicated to helping children recover from the
damaging effects of sexual abuse. We were thrilled to have opened the doors to the Ranch in September 2014—
but more help is needed to allow our work to continue.
