Summer Camp - Information
Kennedy Montessori School, 7781 Kennedy Road, Markham, L3R 2C8
Logics Academy is pleased to present a Summer Camp experience like no other! Register today for
a fun, engaging and challenging summer camp filled with robotics and programming adventures.
Camp for students Grades 1 – 4 and 5 – 8. Students are to bring their own Lunch!
W eek of July 13 th ($350) & W eek of Aug 4 th ($300)
Jr (Grade 1 – 4) Play I, Program and Play
At Logics we believe that learning how to program robots at a young age is as essential as reading
and writing, and can be taught at the same age as other language skills. In this course the students
will be introduced to Dash and Dot. They are fun and playful robots that can be programed with
Google Blockly. The students will need to think critically about how to communicate with the robots
by sequencing commands, using conditional statements, subroutines, and writing and calling
variables. Make your robot friends interact with each other, get them to perform a range of emotions
and behaviours, compete in challenges, and program some victory dance moves to celebrate.
Sr (Grade 5 – 8) Robotics, Mechanical Mania
Mechanisms can be combined to create very complex behavior in machines and robots. Transmitting the mechanical power from the drive motors of your robot to the various wheels, arms, and attachments requires selecting between a number of different gear systems, pulley systems, belt drive combinations, cam systems, lever arms, and multiple linkage systems. But which is best to use for your application? A robot that can lift, race, walk, jump, or move its mouth and eyes requires complex engineering. Can mechanisms be used in combination? Students will explore in depth the advantages and disadvantages of different mechanisms as they design robots to accomplish exciting tasks. Master the skill of mechanical robotic design!
W eek of July 20 th ($350) & W eek of Aug 10 th ($350)
Jr (Grade 1 – 4) Robotics, Power and Parts
Energy is very important for our daily lives and for robots too. Just like we need food to work and play, robots and machines need energy to move and think. In this course students will build robots with different power sources to understand the ways we generate and store. Through the activities, students will learn how energy is generated, measured and consumed in our daily lives as well as the challenges associated with energy generation. Part of using less energy comes from understanding and selecting better materials that make things lighter and stronger. Students will also get an understanding of what types of materials they can use to build with; including fasteners and safe adhesives available to join parts together. They will use their creativity to design and build solutions to the challenges provided by customizing their designs, utilizing the principles taught in the class, ultimately taking some of their designs home. Sr (Grade 5 – 8) Programming, Jump into Jade
This course takes advantage of the new and exciting Jade robot; which is a tank like vehicle with a built in spectrometer, infrared distance sensors, light sensors, a speaker, six LED's and an OLED display. In this programming course, students will focus on using variables in different data structures (such as lists, coordinate grids, and trees) to solve various engaging challenges using the robot and its sensors.
