a drive for their “Take Care” Bags. The drive will
take place March 9th through March 20th. Items
that are needed are new hairbrushes, toothbrushes,

by donating a few items to be placed in their bag.

([email protected]) ____________________________________________________________ ELEMENTARY YEARBOOKS For SALE! $14 for Pre-‐K-‐5th grade (Checks payable to Louisville Public Schools) (Softcover yearbook) Prom Information Date: Saturday, March 28, 2015 Time: Pictures 6-‐7 Dance from 7-‐11 After-‐prom from 12 -‐ ? Place: Pella at Blackstone • This week, I will be putting out sign-‐up lists in the office near Mrs. March. • One list will be for Juniors and Seniors to sign if they intend to come to Prom. You should go ahead and sign up even if you haven’t decided for sure. There is no penalty for not attending. However, if you don’t sign up and then come to the Prom, I cannot guarantee you desserts, drinks, or a seat. • There will be a second list for you to sign if you plan to bring an outside date. Remember that we consider an outside date to be anyone that is not a Junior or Senior here at Louisville Schools. Your date must be at least a Freshman in high school and no older than 20. Letters that go to outside dates must be signed by their school personnel clearing them to attend our Prom. These will be in the office in a red binder that Mrs. March is monitoring. You will add your name to the list, take a form, then pay your money once the form is signed. I must know numbers by Friday, March 20th, so please sign up and have forms returned. •
Note that the cost for bringing an outside date this year is $10. Please pay at the time you return your form and finalize your information. I will not include your names in the registration unless you have paid. This amount is non-‐refundable. •

Mike Krambeck will be the photographer at Prom for those who wish to have pictures taken with the themed backdrop. Couples, singles, and friend groups are all welcome. Mike will provide more of his information as the date approaches. All photos will be taken before the dance. If a Junior or Senior wants to be included, class pictures will be taken at 6:45. There is no meal being served this year, but there will be dessert, drinks, and a coffee bar. No doubt there will be those who are upset by the difference. However, I hope individuals who are upset will not dwell on this fact. Please understand that a combination of circumstances would not allow for it. There is no one to blame here. I believe the Juniors and their parents are using their time, talents, and creativity to make the entire evening-‐-‐dance and After-‐
Prom-‐-‐fun and memorable. Before jumping to conclusions, come try it out and see! An event like this will only be as fun as you make it. So stay positive and spread the good word! This is a formal event. Please dress appropriately. Girls should wear dresses or more formal slack outfits. Guys should wear tuxes, suits, or dress slacks and ties. If in doubt, please ask. You will provide your own transportation to the dance. You may arrive at the Pella at Blackstone any time after 6 PM. You are not required to stay until 11 PM. However, if you choose to leave, you may not return. While at the dance, we ask that you stay inside the building at all times. If you must go to your car, please ask an adult to escort you. Certain parking lots have been designated for our use that evening. They are located at 41st and Farnam, and 41st and Harney.-‐-‐ numbers 6, 7, 51, 52. Regarding the After-‐Prom event, doors will open at 12:00 AM and then be locked by 12:30. As in years past, once you leave, you will not be readmitted. If you leave before the end •
•
of the event, you will need to let your parents know. All After-‐Prom information will be included in a packet of information made available in the coming days. Lastly, please remember that Prom is a privilege, not a right. Sponsors and administrators are expecting your best behavior. Most years we are complimented by venue staff for being polite, well-‐behaved, and fun-‐loving. I believe that will continue this year. You all know by now which behaviors are unacceptable. If that is seen, you will be reported to the security guard, your parents will be called, and you will be escorted from the building. If you have any questions, please see Natalie Knott, Claire Habrock, or Ms. Rose. RELAX AND ENJOY THE MOMENT!!!! Counseling Comments ~ Mr. Carlson Hard to believe we are to March already, but here it is. Here are some important things for the month of March. Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors and Parents are invited to the area Spring College Fairs. EducationQuest has an Omaha Fair, Sunday March 29th from 1-‐3pm at UNO and a Lincoln Fair, Sunday April 19th from 1-‐3pm at Southeast Community College. NACAC also has a National College Fair, Saturday April 18th from 1-‐4 at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha. All are free. Check the EducationQuest website or http://bit.ly/NCFExhibitorSearch to find the names of schools that are attending. Juniors, now is the time to start taking the ACT or SAT if you haven’t already. Either test can be taken though the ACT is more commonly taken in this area. Juniors should start taking the ACT no later than this April or June at the latest. The deadline to sign up for the April ACT without paying an extra fee is March 13th. Also, Juniors who are considering ROTC, one of the US Military Academies, or playing a sport at NCAA Divisions I, II or NAIA need to get started on those application processes. See Mr. Carlson if you need information on any of this. In addition, Junior parents be on the lookout for a “Junior Parent Meeting” to be held one evening in March (date yet undetermined.) This will be an opportunity for parents (and any Juniors who want to attend) to get information on what to do to find a college/career, prepare for the college application process, understand scholarships, etc. We will send out notification of an exact date and time through SchoolReach when we have that set. Seniors, there are still scholarships to be had so continue applying. In fact, many of the later scholarships have less applicants as Seniors typically drop off in their efforts. Don’t be a typical Senior! :-‐) A great resource to our Seniors are the local scholarships provided by the Louisville community. Application information for those scholarships can be found on the Counseling Center website (http://lpscarlson.weebly.com) under the High School tab. Deadline for those applications is Wednesday, March 25th. Also, when Seniors receive information on any scholarships that they have received they should notify Mr. Carlson. There will be a link on the Counseling Center website that will allow them to enter this information through a Google document. This information will then be shared at Honors Night in May so that the hard work students have done can be recognized. Also, Seniors should have completed, or be completing, their FAFSA to determine if they are eligible for grant money from the Federal government. Families don’t have to complete their taxes before applying, they can use the previous year information and update it later if need be. Keep in mind that if your student qualifies for any amount of grant money the State of Nebraska has programs that will make sure that those students will have their remaining tuition paid for IF they are attending a school in the Nebraska community college, college, or university systems. Seniors should also be taking any last minute visits to schools to help them determine which school they will attend next year. Most schools require students to notify them of their attendance plans by May 1st so that is approaching. Finally, registration forms for next year’s 9th-‐12th grade students have been turned in. We will be working on schedules between now and the end of the year and will notify students before the year is out what their schedules will look like (barring any last minutes changes that will hopefully not occur over the summer, but inevitably could!) Activities Report ~ Mr. Geise It's hard to believe it’s March and the winter seasons have ended. The kids worked hard and persevered. They have a lot to be proud of. The wrestling team qualified two individuals for state. Spencer Warner at 132 and Wade Knott at 152. Wade went 1-‐2 at state and Spencer went 0-‐2. Congrats to the coaches and wrestlers on an outstanding season. The girl’s basketball team persevered through injury and sickness this basketball season. Their season ended with a sub-‐district final overtime loss to eventual state-‐qualifier Omaha Concordia. The boy’s team ended their season with first a round sub-‐district loss to Boys Town. Congrats and thank you to both programs – coaches and players. We’re proud of your hard work. The Speech Team continues to roll. They won the ECNC championship again this year. Districts will be held March 17th at HTRS High School. Best of luck! The dance team members competed at the state meet in Grand Island. They competed well in spite of losing girls to sickness and injury prior competition. Congrats to all the dance girls and Coach Jones for your hard-‐work and dedication. Also, thank you to the cheer squad, along with Coach Olsen and Coach Schmitt for your hard-‐work and dedication the entire year. − Updated calendar information can be found by going to the school website, click on “calendars” then click on “Activity Calendar”. The most updated information can be found here. − The school remains busy with our youth basketball teams and youth wrestlers working hard. A huge thanks to all the volunteer coaches and high school coaches that put in extra time to improve our programs. − Thank you to all the Booster officers and all Booster members. NEEDING DONATIONS FOR THIS GREAT STUDENT OPPORTUNITY!
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
The middle school team is excited again this year to offer a unique learning opportunity for our 8th grade
students. In April, the 8th graders will be participating in an interdisciplinary unit on Abraham Lincoln. We would
like to take them to Springfield, IL, his hometown to learn more about him, and make some 8th grade memories.
We are fundraising to help cover the cost of this field trip. The largest cost incurred is for transportation. The
school will charter a large bus with restroom facilities for the 6.5 hour drive, one way, to Springfield. Along with
transportation, there are entrance fees, meals and lodging costs. Last year we raised a little over $2,500.00 which
covered most of the cost of transportation. The school paid for some food, part of the lodging, and some entrance
fees. Students paid $45 each, and scholarships were awarded as needed. This year, transportation alone is
$3,900.00 due to the fact that we have more students and need a larger bus.
Please contact the school if you are willing to donate to help with this great learning opportunity. Each
donation made will go through the Louisville Foundation and is a tax deductible. You may drop your donation off
at Home State Bank, attention Lori Gray or at the school. With your generosity, students at Louisville will have an
opportunity to visit another state and an experience of learning that will make memories of a lifetime.
If you have any questions or need clarification, please feel free to contact me.
