3/16/2015 The Nature of God’s Love and Grace Pastor Ronald Molmisa Generation 3:16 Ministries 1 John 4:7-8 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. Apart from God, we cannot know true love "You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.“ – St. Augustine Romans 8:38-39 Always AVAILABLE “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. 1 3/16/2015 FALSE: God only loves us when we are good TRUTH: God does not accept us because we are good, but because HE IS GOOD! Romans 5:7-8 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. God’s love is recklessly EXTRAVAGANT 2 3/16/2015 Luke 15:20 So he got up and went to his father. "But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. Parable of the Vineyard Workers God’s grace is fair and for all! Matthew 20:13,16 “'Friend, I am not being unfair to you. Didn't you agree to work for a denarius?...So the last will be first, and the first will be last.” (Matthew 20) 3 3/16/2015 Exodus 3:9 God’s love is EMOTIONAL Zephaniah 3:17 The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing." And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. Jeremiah 31:3 The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with lovingkindness. God’s love is SACRIFICIAL 4 3/16/2015 John 3:16-17 Romans 8:32-33 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all-how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 1 John 2:1-2 God’s love JUSTIFIES us “…But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense--Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. Matthew 17:5 We love God by loving and obeying Jesus While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!" 5 3/16/2015 John 14:23-24 Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. 1 John 4:19-21 We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother. Your love for others is the indicator that God’s love is in you! John 13:34,35 A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
