Job Description: EnrollNOLA School Choice Advisor Background on the Recovery School District The Louisiana Recovery School District (RSD) is a state turnaround agency whose mission is to transform chronically underperforming schools across the state and raise student achievement so that all Louisiana students can attain a college degree or professional career. The RSD has been nationally recognized as one of the most innovative public school districts in the country due to its unique system of governance, which supports autonomy and encourages innovation while ensuring accountability. The percentage of RSD students in New Orleans performing at grade level has doubled in the past five years, increasing from 28% in 2008 to 57% in 2013. An essential component of the RSD’s mission is school choice for students and families. In New Orleans, students may apply to any public school in the city, no matter where they live. Families may apply to attend all RSD authorized charter schools, many of the schools managed and/or authorized by the OPSB, all Type 2 charter schools located in New Orleans and all non-public schools participating in the Louisiana Scholarship Program that are located in New Orleans. EnrollNOLA oversees the annual application and placement process, named OneApp, and the year-long management of the enrollment system, including transfers and mid-year enrollment. Position Responsibilities and Qualifications EnrollNOLA is seeking an outgoing and responsive candidate to be a School Choice Advisor (SCA). The SCA will be responsible for assisting families with the enrollment process to support registration of school-age children in an OneApp participating school. The SCA will report to the Director of Student and Family Services. The position will be based in our EnrollNOLA Family Resource Centers. This position will require the candidate to rotate between the three Centers. Some evening and weekend hours will be required. Salary is commensurate with experience; generous benefits plan included. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: • Enrollment Activity o Supports the initial registration process by preparing registration packets and meeting with parents. Enters student data into district system to secure a placement for all students, and forwards all necessary documents to the receiving school. o Become familiar with and be able to interpret all RSD and EnrollNOLA policies and procedures to better assist visitors of the Family Center. o Follows all district guidelines pertaining to transfer procedures (both inside and outside the school district) and counsels parents regarding their rights and responsibilities. o Assists with research to resolve issues between families and schools. o Establishes the EnrollNOLA Family Center as a welcoming place that invites participation and partnerships from students, schools and community leaders. 1615 Poydras Street.Suite 1400.New Orleans.LA 504.373.6200 www.rsd.la.gov o o o o o o o Meets with community leaders to provide up-to-date information on district enrollment policies and ongoing activities. Maintains excellent record keeping, including documentation as part of all programming held within the EnrollNOLA Family Centers. Assists in the development and implementation of donations for district wide activities. Provides support with district-wide special projects and/or committee work. Participates in efforts to build or enhance community support of school programs and projects; attends and participates in community meetings as appropriate. Attends staff and other district meetings as necessary. Performs other duties as required. • Communication/Interpersonal o Able to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions. o Works cooperatively and collaboratively as a team member using good interpersonal relationship and communication skills. o Displays the ability to build relationships that enhance the effectiveness of the operation. o Exercises excellent customer service skills at all times to visitors of the EnrollNOLA Family Centers. o Effectively and clearly communicate with school leaders, school personnel, and the public via telephone, email, and fax. o Logs information on calls received and maintains detailed and accurate records on designated forms. • Additional Job Responsibilities o Must be able to respond positively to supervision and accept suggestions for improvement. o Must be able to give and receive information electronically. o Must be able to operate a variety of equipment such as computer, printer, fax machine, copier, calculator, telephone, audio-visual equipment, etc. o Travel may be required. o Must be able to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend and lift up to 10 pounds. o Must be able to work in an unsupervised capacity.
