TREATMENT SERVICES
Education
Participation in a structured academic environment plays an important role
in the developmental needs of an adolescent. Our faculty believes that students
can learn, achieve and be responsible when they are active participants in a
dynamic therapeutic community that promotes excellence in treatment, academics,
and social learning. The objective of the educational staff at Timberline Knolls
is to nurture, sustain, and enhance the academic performance of our students.
This is accomplished through the Academy’s three-part program of individualized/
group therapy, residential/lodge living, and education. In order to facilitate
this successful program, our educational team utilizes a multi-disciplinary
approach in the education, treatment, and supervision of our students.
The educational team is led by our principal, a Licensed Clinical Social
Worker, with Type 75 Administrative Certification and Type 73 School Social
Worker Certification. Our masters level teachers are certified and trained as
Learning Behavioral Specialists. In addition to these highly qualified educators,
we provide certified Specialized Classroom Counselors in each classroom.
This dynamic combination affords our students the opportunity to achieve
their highest emotional, social, and academic potential.
Timberline Knolls Academy is centrally located on campus adjacent to two
residential lodges. This academic setting aligns with the beautiful outdoors
for integrative learning opportunities. The Academy is an Illinois State Board
of Education approved residential school. We follow a quarter-based academic
calendar and offer a six-week summer school program in accordance with
the Illinois State Board of Education Learning Standards.
Through the use of state-of-the-art assessments, an individual plan is developed.
The plan takes into consideration the student’s present level of achievement,
ability to learn, and the requirements of the student’s home school district.
When appropriate, elective subjects, advanced placement courses, ACT/SAT
preparation, and on-line courses will be offered as part of the total curriculum.
In order to support the Academy’s therapeutic and academic curricula, the students
have access to superlative tutorial resources that further enhance their academic
and artistic skills.

TREATMENT SERVICES
Family Treatment
The Family Treatment Program is an integral component of care. When
appropriate, all family members, including siblings, may participate in family
therapy which includes strengthening parental leadership, clarifying boundaries,
enhancing coping skills, and freeing family members from their entrenched
positions within the family structure. The family program consists of sessions
designed to help families cope through multi-therapy group and individual
therapy sessions.
Continuing Care
Timberline Knolls recognizes that a properly designed and realistic discharge
plan is a critical component of the treatment program for each resident.
Upon admission, our clinical staff immediately begins crafting a comprehensive
plan for returning to home, to school, or to a step-down therapeutic program.
As appropriate, communication channels developed with family, school, and
referents during the resident’s stay at Timberline Knolls will be maintained
after discharge to best ensure continuity of care and support.
