Introduction This directory represents the first comprehensive compilation of HFS 75certified adolescent substance abuse treatment facilities in Wisconsin. It is intended to be a resource for About Project Fresh Light… behavioral health professionals, Project Fresh Light is an initiative of the consumers, and policy makers. Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services and its Bureau of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. All substance abuse treatment agencies that receive state or federal funding must conform to these standards. Also, commercial group health plans may deny reimbursement to treatment agencies that are not certified under HFS 75. 3 Helpful Information for Consumers How to use this directory . . . Facilities are listed alphabetically by the cities in which they are located. However, they are also listed a number of different ways in the appendices if you are looking for specifics, such as which facilities in your city will accept Medical Assistance or which offer day treatment. My child is using drugs and needs help. Where do I start? You may wish to call several providers in this directory to ask about their services or set up an appointment. Asking others who may have been through similar situations is often helpful, or contact your county’s 51.42 board agency to speak with someone about resources in your area [see the listing of county 51.42 agencies on page 125 of the appendices]. What is a county 51.42 agency? Chapter 51 of the Wisconsin statutes requires each county to provide mental health and substance abuse services for its residents on an ability-to-pay basis. These county agencies either provide services directly or sometimes contract with private providers. 51.42 agencies go by various names, such as Human Services or Community Services. County 51.42 agencies are good sources of information for consumers. How much help does my child need? Treatment providers will first conduct a thorough assessment of your child. This involves an extensive interview and perhaps some other testing. The counselor will also ask you as parent(s) or caregiver(s) for information regarding medical history and behavioral observations. The counselor will discuss the assessment results with you and your child to develop an appropriate treatment plan. Insurance, other funding and confidentiality matters will be discussed as well. Ask plenty of questions. What are co-occurring disorders or dual diagnoses? That means that a mental health issue (such as attention deficit or depression) exists along with a substance use disorder. Some facilities specialize in treating co-occurring disorders. Where can I get more information?
