BLOSSOMING INNOVATION
CEO COMMENT
“Cataleya was created because we strongly believe that networking
technology needs to be simpler, more intuitive and ready to enable an
all-IP world.
When a customer chooses Cataleya’s technology they gain greater
control over their IP network with the operational intelligence to
deliver new levels of quality of service and experience.”
Andreas Hipp, CEO, Cataleya

AN ALL-IP WORLD
In the last 10 years, IP-based
networks have proven themselves to
provide a cost effective and versatile
infrastructure to transport multimedia
communications traffic. The latest 4G
mobile architectures including LTE are
based on end-to-end IP transport.
The global adoption of 4G and LTE, and
the proliferation of networks operating
an all-IP core have accelerated the
flattening of the Global Network
Architecture. It has also enabled
Mobile and Fixed Line Operators to
seamlessly interconnect via IP based
interconnections.
The increasing number of OTT and
application service providers demand
reliable and simple platforms to deliver
their services to their clients on a
dedicated or Cloud-based intelligent
network architecture.

CATALEYA WAS CREATED BY A SERVICE PROVIDER,
FOR SERVICE PROVIDERS.
When we were unable to find the
networking technology that could meet
our needs in the service provider space
we developed it ourselves.
As part of Epsilon Global
Communications, we benefit from deep
experience in procuring, managing,
maintaining and operating global
networks. All of our technologies benefit
from Epsilon’s innovative DNA and
relentless pursuit of more efficient and
effective business models. This has
fed directly into the development of
4
Orchid One, our network session and
application manager.
We could see that service providers
needed a way to manage quality of
service and experience end-to-end
through the application layer. When we
could not find a technology that could
give us the visibility and control we
wanted, we developed it ourselves. In
the same way, we continue to develop
new technologies that solve complex
networking challenges for both our
customers and ourselves.
“We looked at what we wanted to do in our network and decided to push
intelligent networking as far as we could”

“Orchid One is a real differentiator for us in terms of quality and service
visibility. Our customers want to migrate their interconnects from TDM to
IP and Cataleya’s Session and Application Manager provides a next-gen
infrastructure that can interwork with legacy networks and scale while
delivering real-time quality of service and experience which we found
unique in the SBC market.”
Uche Onwudiwe, Chief Operating Officer at ICN

DRIVING THE MIGRATION
FROM TDM
TO IP
Our technology is supporting the
migration from TDM to IP globally,
enabling an all-IP world to become a
reality.
Beyond ‘Best Effort’ – Our technology enables
our customers to guarantee quality of service and
experience on end-to-end IP networks
Near Real-Time – We give customers near realtime visibility into their IP networks allowing them
to maintain or enhance network performance
Service Aware – We give customers enhanced
analytics from the transport to application layers
across their IP networks allowing for full and
immediate service and quality control
Truly Global – Our technology has been
deployed in the Asia-Pacific, Africa, Europe and
North America regions
10
“With every trial and deployment, Cataleya is proving that it is not just
another SBC product. It is catering to the needs of a range of service
providers that have a common goal of delivering the highest possible
quality of service and experience.”
Jay Jayasimha, Chief Technology Innovation Officer, Cataleya
ORCHID ONE
Our Orchid One session and application manager has been
specifically developed to address the need for end-to-end
quality of service and quality of experience in IP networks. It is
an advanced session border controller (SBC) technology that
delivers unparalleled visibility into network performance from
the transport to application layers.
Orchid One delivers near real-time and trending analytics
reporting on session, service, network, system, application,
traffic type, media quality and consequently the ability to offer
true end-to-end SLAs. Customers can use these analytics to
rapidly troubleshoot network issues and maintain or improve
network performance as it happens.
Its simple and intuitive operations and management system
is supported by a state-of-the-art GUI. This makes it simple to
operate and quick to make decisions that effect the network.
Orchid One offers the scalability to match rapid growth in
IP services with the ability to manage 100,000 concurrent
sessions within 2RU form factor.
It solves the challenges IP networks face with a simple and
powerful solution.
12
ONE PLATFORM
CLOUD-READY
Customers can leverage
the best of security, session
management and service
management in one platform
Orchid One supports Cloudbased Platform as a Service
(PaaS) offerings as well as
Intelligent Network as a service
(iNaaS) and other telco-in-aCloud models
ENHANCED ANALYTICS
AND REPORTING
SERVICE AND NETWORK
INTERWORKING PLATFORM
Customers can manage their
network operations with
near real-time statistics and
trending statistics on session,
service, application, MOS/Rfactor scores, network and
end-to-end SLAs
Service providers can interface
VoLTE IMS to non-IMS network
interconnections using a
powerful Signalling Adaptation
Framework (SAF)
END-TO-END QOS
Orchid One delivers
service level QoS for IP
interconnection that
enable the delivery of
services like VoLTE and
other high performance
applications
13
“The team at Cataleya built Orchid One to solve problems they were seeing
in service provider businesses everyday. They understand that the future of
applications and services is dependent on QoS and QoE and created a solution
that makes monitoring and managing network performance simple and
effective. Orchid One enables us to offer our customer higher quality services
that end users appreciate and recognise as superior.”
Paul Tindley, CEO, SmartIPX
14
THE
BUSINESS CASE
Benefiting from the flexibility and efficiency of IP
networking without the QoS and QoE issues
Offering customers SLA’s based on
differentiated classes of service
Delivering high performance applications and
communications services
Enabling customers to migrate to a fully IP
infrastructure
15
MUCH
MORE
THAN
A
SBC
Orchid One combines the
most critical functions
of IP networking into a
single cohesive solution.
It simplifies Security,
Session Management
(switching) and Service
Management (services) to
make the migration from
TDM to IP seamless.
Traditional SBC’s have not
been purpose built with
this capability and lack the
engineering and interface
to make IP networking
simple. Orchid One is the
only solution that caters to
all three service functions
that are required for an allIP world.
