We would like to announce a few changes to the MACDC conference, for this summer only. In order to allow our members to make their hotel reservations early, we were NOT able to include meals with your hotel reservations. However, your meals are included in your MACDC conference registration. In addition, your conference registration also includes the opportunity to explore the original Butterfly House & Insect World or play putt‐putt golf at Mackinac’s 18‐hole Executive Putting Green. See networking activity sheet for more details. All registrants’ names will be placed on a list and given to the Butterfly House and the Executive Putting Green, there is no sign up. Compliments of MACDC Associate Members, there is no cost to you! Enclosed you will find our Conference Brochure, Registration Form, and activities sign‐up sheet. Hotel Reservations. We have had such an overwhelming response to participate in this year’s summer conference that we have sold out our host hotel, Mission Point Resort. The Lake View Hotel, is very excited to work with us and has reserved a block of rooms for MACDC. Please call 1.800.207.7075 to make your reservation. You must mention “MACDC” to get our reduced rate of $272.00/night. Rooms are being held until June 14, 2015 at the Lake View Hotel. Meals are included in your conference registration. Your conference registration includes: ~ MACDC reception and dinner Wednesday night ~ Breakfast, lunch, reception and dinner Thursday ~ Breakfast on Friday ~ Networking Activities Please use the enclosed Registration Form to register for the Conference. Please include a registration form for all persons attending the conference. This information is needed to ensure that we have nametags and meal tickets for all attendees. 

Additional Expenses: Ferry: We have negotiated reduced ferry rates with Star Line. Tickets can be purchased at the docks or on‐line at www.mackinacferry.com. When purchasing your ferry tickets, please be sure to mention that you are with MACDC to receive the reduced rate. Round trip tickets are $18 for adults; $9 for children ages 5 – 12; and children under 5 are free. Ferry schedules can be found at: www.mackinacferry.com. Be sure to reference the schedule when planning your travel. The ferries at 8:00am, 9:00am, 10:30am and 11:00am take a detour under the Mackinac Bridge! Hotel Shuttles: It is at least a 20‐minute walk (on a slight uphill grade) to Mission Point Resort from the ferry dock. The shuttle fee is $5.00 per person and cash is paid directly to the driver. Cost is subject to change without notice. Please note, once you are on the island the horses take their break between 12:30pm and 2:30pm, so there may be no shuttles going to the resort during that time. If you wish to take a shuttle, plan your ferry travel accordingly. Luggage transfer: 
Those of you staying at Mission Point will notify the dock porters that your luggage should be transferred to Mission Point. You will not see your luggage again until hotel check‐in, so be sure to pack any needed items in a carry‐on. A one‐time charge of $6 per person will apply for luggage transferred from the mainland to the resort and back. This fee was added to your room reservation. 
Those of you staying at Lake View Hotel should also notify the dock porters that your luggage will go to the Lake View. Once you arrive on the island the porters will meet you at the end of the dock. Using Wildlife as Metric for Monitoring Water
Quality and Project Restoration Success

Several groups of wildlife including amphibians,
reptiles, and aquatic macroinvertebrates are
recognized as biological indicators of water
quality and ecosystem health. Their presence on
the landscape and at project sites are a rapid, cost
efficient and quantifiable means of assessing the
sites current condition for comparison to post
modification, restoration, or enhancement. This
presentation will focus on the importance and utility
of incorporating wildlife monitoring as part of drain
projects and measuring water quality success.

Wetlands and Geology of Mackinac Island

Consultants
GEI will take everyone through a visual 1 hour
classroom tour of the various wetland types and
unique plant communities found on the island from the coastal wetlands along the shores of Lake
Michigan to the interior emergent and forested
wetlands and not forgetting some of the unique
wetlands that persist atop bedrock. A GEI geologist
will also take you through a tour and explanation of
the geology of the island, helping to explain why
wetlands persist on the island along with some
unique geologic features that hopefully some of you
will visit and explore during your time on the island.

Why is Northwest Michigan the Land of Long
Lakes?

Sensing & Geographic Information Science
Northwestern Lower Michigan is well known for
the numerous large, very deep and long lakes (e.g.,
Lake Leelanau, Elk Lake, Torch Lake, Lake Charlevoix,
Walloon Lake) that surround the even larger, deeper
and longer West and East Arms of Traverse Bay. Why are
these unusual lakes clustered in northwestern Lower
Michigan? There are very few islands in Lake Michigan,
except in the archipelago that includes North and South
Manitou, North and South Fox, Beaver, High, Garden
and Hog islands. Why is this concentration of islands
located off the coast of northwestern Lower Michigan?
Is the origin of the Lake Michigan Archipelago related
in any way to the formation of the numerous very deep,
long lakes in this region? In this talk, we will explore
some of the answers to these questions.

MACDC Conference Late Registration and Cancellation Policy
Please be advised that the MACDC Board of Directors has enacted a Late Registration and Cancellation Policy. This policy
relates to the Conference Registration and not the Hotel Registration. Hotel Reservation requests must be received by
the Lake View by June 14, 2015. Hotel Reservation requests received after that date will be made based upon availability.
Conference Registration through MACDC’s Treasurer must be received by July 1, 2015. Registrations received after July 1,
2015, will be required to pay a late registration fee of $25.00.
Cancellations. Persons who cancel their Conference Registration before July 1, 2015 will receive a full refund. Persons who
cancel their Conference Registration after July 1, 2015 will forfeit their entire Registration fee.
These policies will be enforced by MACDC’s Treasurer.
