They will be chosen by this year’s juror, Michael Rooks, Wieland Family Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at Atlanta’s High Museum of Art. In 2013, the 64th Rochester-Finger Lakes Exhibition featured work by current Creative Workshop instructors Phyllis Bryce-Ely, Loraine Cooley, Alice Gold, Dale Klein, Dejan Pejovic and Joe Tarantelli. The class will be creating 2-D and 3-D projects. This beginner-level ceramics class offers hand-building (forming functional and decorative pieces using slabrolled, coiled, and hand-forming techniques) through work on the potter’s wheel. You’ll learn wedging, centering, trimming, throwing small cylinders and glaze basics. Working with clay will help you escape the stress of the day by getting dirty and getting centered. Your teacher will demonstrate, give you hands-on help when needed, and explain the whole process of wheel-thrown pottery. You’ll create unique 3-D forms that can be combined with beads, chain and wire to create unique earrings. Beginners welcome! Fee: $130 (members $117) STONE SETTING 101 INTERMEDIATE JEWELRY Learn to bezel set stones. Take a stone and combine it with metal to create a unique piece of jewelry. Learn how to manipulate metal to secure a stone in place. Finish the class with at least one self-designed wearable piece of jewelry. Go beyond what you’ve already learned in your Beginning Jewelry class. Ramp up your soldering skills, learn some fold forming and add some new techniques to your jewelry “tool box.” You’ll be inspired with demonstrations on more advanced techniques.
