Manual Call Points, Emergency Call Points and Emergency Door Releases
- Know the difference and how to operate them
Fire Alarm
• Use ONLY in a fire emergency
• MCP (formally referred to as Break
Glass Alarm) is operated by
snapping the glass element by
firmly pressing on its centre – a
hammer, or other impact device, is
NOT required.
• Red coloured Manual Call Points
(MCPs) and labelled ‘ Fire’ or ‘Fire
Alarm’ allow the occupants to
activate the building’s Fire
Detection System.
• Activate the Fire Detection System
can also trigger the automatic
operation of the Emergency
Warning and Intercommunication
System (EWIS).
Emergency Alarm
• Use in any emergency other than
fire, e.g. bomb threat etc.
• Emergency Call Point is operated
by snapping the glass element by
firmly pressing on its centre – a
hammer, or other impact device, is
NOT required.
• White coloured Emergency Call
Points labelled ‘Emergency Alarm’
allow the occupants to activate the
building’s Emergency Warning and
Intercommunication System
(EWIS).

Emergency Door Release
• Use to open secured doors where a
release device is installed adjacent to
the door you wish to exit.
• White or Green coloured Emergency
Door Release is operated by snapping
the glass element by firmly pressing
on its centre – a hammer, or other
impact device, is NOT required.
• Operation of the Emergency Door
Release:
- WILL allow the door to be opened
and the occupant to egress the
area.
- MAY trigger a local alarm and
activate of a security system.
- DOES NOT activate the
building’s Fire Detection System or
activate the building’s Emergency
Warning and Intercommunication
System (EWIS).
