Virtual Holocaust Museum
Transforms MHS Library
For the second year in
a row, the MHS Library
was transformed into
a Virtual Holocaust
Museum. The project
was a combined effort
of world history teachers Christy Nelson and
Nichole Sidlovsky and
librarian Margot Polley.

played violin pieces from Jewish composers. Students from all world history
classes toured the museum and the exhibit was open during lunch for all
students who wished to tour. This year we added an open house in the evening for students,
parents and members of the community.

Visitors entered the library from two entrances.
One group walked through the stacks of the
library, which created a maze like effect of the
progression of the Nazi Final Solution. Students looked at photographs, videos on iPads
and even walked through a model cattle car.
The exhibit started with the rise of the Nazi
Party, Nazi propaganda and the Hitler Youth.
From there, the exhibit moved on to Kristallnacht, the initial deportations to the labor
camps, the Einsatzgruppen, Nazi medical
experimentation, other Holocaust victims, the

PTSA–Looking Ahead
I can’t believe our school year is almost over! Thank
you to all of our PTSA Board Members who have
coordinated events, hosted breakfasts, ordered supplies and equipment, increased school spirit and
helped make Mandeville High School a wonderful
school for our kids! I have enjoyed working with all
of you and appreciate all of your hard work.
We say goodbye to our board members, Walkie
Rosenzweig, Janice Maillot, and Angel Dugas. Their
children are graduating this year, so they will be retiring from the PTSA board. Thank you so much to
these ladies who have served in their positions with
such dedication and enthusiasm. We will certainly
miss you.

MHS Competes in WWII Quiz Bowl
On Saturday, February 28, Mandeville competed against
25 other high schools for the chance to make it to the
finals of the World War II Quiz Bowl. Three person teams
compete against each other with all questions pertaining to World War II. Some of the categories in this years’
competition were Maps, WWII in the News and WWII

Photos Are Due Now
Parents of seniors need to submit 1 copy of a (5x7
or smaller) baby picture for the 2015 MPG DVD and
an 8½”x11” hard copy photo collage of your senior
through the years. The baby picture can be scanned

Mpg Party Registration
Registrations for MPG will continue at MHS until May
5, Cap & Gown pick up day. Please register with MPG
now. We want to make sure everyone has a great gift
and a great time! Registrations can be picked up on
Wednesdays at the Lunch Box table or at Student Services. You can also email [email protected].
Calling All Senior Parents!
MPG needs all MHS parents to come out and get
involved with getting Mandeville Project Graduation
ready to go. If you have never been involved here’s
your chance to jump in. Starting May 5 and continuing
on the May 7 we will be decorating the Castine Center.
Come on out and lend a hand. Also volunteers are
needed for the night of the party. This is an exciting
time with the graduating class. All parents, not just the
Senior parents, are encouraged to come out and help
us keep our students safe and sober on graduation

Applying for TOPS AND Financial Aid:
The FAFSA form is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Use this
form to apply free for federal and state student grants, work-study and
loans. Please use the following website: www.fafsa.ed.gov. The FAFSA form
is the TOPS application. The deadline to apply for TOPS is July 1, 2015.

Transcripts can be requested by completing a Transcript Request Form with
Ms. Howard, registrar. The cost of transcripts is $1.00 each. Transcripts
must be paid for in full before they are mailed or issued to the student.
Williams proceeds to State Finals
for PTA Educator of Distinction
On Friday, March 13, Mrs. Cheryl Williams was honored
at the St. Tammany Children’s Banquet for her nomination as Educator of Distinction. This event and dinner
was put on by the district PTA and held at Mayfield
Elementary School in Slidell. Educators of Distinction,
Safety Poster and Reflections winners were all announced and given their awards.
Mrs. Williams submission now goes to the LA PTA for
consideration and we should hear soon if she has won
any state awards as Educator of Distinction.

Headed to National Competition

Breakfast hosted
for 500 Students
The PTSA hosted the Skipper Scholar Breakfast for over 500 students
who made the Honor Roll during the
Fall Semester. The students were
treated to coffee donated by PJ’s,
hot chocolate, King Cake, breakfast
biscuits, grapes, milk and juice. Mr.
Bundy welcomed the students and
congratulated them on their hard
work. Thank you to all of the parents who sent in gift cards. Student
names were called throughout the
breakfast to receive the gift cards
to local restaurants and businesses. Congratulations to all of these
wonderful MHS students! Thank
you also to Denise Sheffield and Lee
Elder, our MHS PTSA volunteers,
who coordinate this event for us.
The MHS Winterguard has been a dominate force in the Winterguard
International circuit this year with their show entitled “Bound by Time.”
The guard placed first in competitions at E.D. White and Dutchtown and
a slim second place in Gulfport early in the season. The squad travelled
to Pensacola, FL to compete in the WGI Regionals consisting of six states.
Not only did MHS take first place, they received
the top score for the entire event. In late March,
the Winterguard became the Louisiana/Mississippi state champions.
On April 15, the Winterguard will travel to Dayton, OH to compete at the World Championships
against 130 other units. MHS currently is ranked
12th in the world.
Three years ago, Mandeville High started a Winterguard program at the
school consisting of just a few members. Since then, the program has
grown, matured and become a highly competitive and feared rival in the
circuit. Winterguard is the sport of indoor color guard, for boys and girls,
which uses a combination of flags, sabers, mock rifles, as well as dance
and other interpretive movement in an exciting emotional performance.
These performances take place indoor on a special floor mat and accompanied by pre-recorded music.

Nuremberg Trials.
Students who entered from the other way, looked at
projects on other modern day genocides such as Darfur,
Rwanda, and Syria. Nelson and Sidlovsky’s students
created the project boards as part of an earlier class assignment. As students read about these genocides, they
were required to write down their reflections.
After touring both sides
of the exhibit, students
came together in the
center of the library for
various activities and to
read from books, listen to
podcasts and look at actual World War II artifacts
loaned to us from various
teachers and students.
Guests also watched an
interactive day-by-day
map of the European
theater of World War II.

exhibit is quite expensive and the contributions paid for
printer toner, butcher paper and other supplies necessary to make the museum a success.
In a reflection, one MHS senior wrote, “It felt like I was
on a field trip and then I remembered that I had not
left school.” The purpose of the exhibit was to promote
Holocaust and other genocide awareness, in addition to
providing educational materials to supplement what the
students had learned in class. As guests left the exhibit,
they looked up to see a banner with the total number
of human beings killed in the Holocaust and the words,
NEVER FORGET.
PTSA Recognizes Students with Breakfast of Champions
The Breakfast of Champions was held on Thursday
March 19. Forty-two students were nominated by parents, teachers, or staff, to attend the breakfast because
they demonstrated exemplary behavior in a situation
deserving recognition. These students were treated to
a delicious breakfast prepared by Mrs. Senac and her
Culinary Arts students. They prepared French toast cas-
seroles, egg and sausage and bacon casseroles, various
muffins, fresh fruit, and milk and juice. Each student
attending the breakfast was given a door prized donated
by the PTSA. Door prizes ranged from school t-shirts,
to license plates, magnets and taco bell gift certificates.
Mr. Bundy spoke at the breakfast and was able to recognize each student in attendance.
