CAMPER PACKING LIST 1. Please label every item your camper brings, especially luggage, with his/her full name. 2. Make sure all medication is clearly labeled with the camper’s name, dosage, frequency, etc. All medications must be in original packaging. 3. Do not bring knives, valuable jewelry, items requiring electricity, music players, or cell phones. 4. We do not recommend using garbage bags as they are not durable. If you must use them, clearly mark the camper’s name on each bag and double-bag the contents. 5. MPC is not responsible for lost items. Items left at camp are returned to our Winnipeg office at the end of September and must be collected by the end of October or arrangements can be made to have items sent in on a bus run. 6. Please keep in mind that most of our programming takes place outside. Cotton clothing is good for warm, sunny days. Wool, polyester, and nylon are much warmer options for cold/wet weather. If possible, please pack a mix of both. 7. Most MacKinnon Girls and Boys camps include at least an over-night canoe trip. Please pack accordingly (see essential canoe-tripping packing list below). ESSENTIAL ITEMS FOR ALL CAMPERS Waterproof raincoat and rain pants Water Bottle Warm sleeping bag OR blankets & sheets Pillow Flashlight Sunscreen Hat Shoes or boots that can get muddy At least one pair of shoes must be closed-toed (skate shoes are not an ideal choice, as they offer poor ankle support and minimal traction. We recommend last year’s gym runners) OPTIONAL ITEMS Non-aerosol Insect Repellant Water Shoes Camera Binoculars Musical Instruments Fishing Rod & Tackle RECOMMENDED CLOTHING Warm sweater/sweatshirts T-shirts Jackets Shorts Pants (jeans, light cotton, sweats) Second pair of shoes/sandals Swimsuits Underwear Pajamas Long underwear RECOMMENDED TOILET ARTICLES Soap Shampoo Towels Face Cloth Laundry Bag Toothbrush, Toothpaste Comb/Brush ESSENTIAL FOR ALL CANOE-TRIPPING CAMPS (Voyageur, Expedition, Challenge) Hat Water Bottle Durable raingear (please keep in mind that this is a piece of personal safety equipment, not a comfort item. It is very important that it fits properly and will last through the demands of a canoe trip. Minimum 30L dry bag (available at camping stores such as Wilderness Supply, MEC, Cabella’s, etc.) Two pairs of shoes, one of which you are willing to get wet and dirty (old running shoes are ideal) Heavy sweater or fleece jacket Wool socks (at least 3 pairs) Bug net (available at Canadian Tire for under $10) Headlamp or flashlight Light weight long underwear × Jeans and track pants are not recommended clothing for canoe tripping. TUCK ACCOUNTS Pioneer Camp operates a Tuck Shop at camp selling books, clothing, flashlights, batteries, and other souvenirs. Since campers may not keep cash in their possession while at camp, all money sent for your campers is put into their Tuck Account. A suggested amount for the tuck deposit is between $20 - $50. Unspent portions of the tuck account will be refunded at the end of the camp session, or can be donated toward our campership fund. WAIVERS & CONDITIONS OF ENROLLMENT 1. If the camper has any physical, emotional, or behavioural need, particularly if it is a condition that would require special attention or exclude any Camp activity, describe fully on a separate sheet of paper. The Camp retains the right to dismiss any camper whose condition has not been disclosed during the application process. 2. The Camp Director reserves the right to dismiss any camper who, in his/her opinion, is a hazard to the safety and rights of others or themselves, or who appears to have rejected the reasonable controls of Camp and/or whose behaviour is placing unacceptable constraints upon the staff and their responsibilities toward other campers. Camper fees are non-refundable when a camper has been dismissed from Camp due to inappropriate behaviour or excessive demands or constraints upon staff. Camper fees are also non-refundable in the case of late arrivals or early departures. 3. In the instance that a camper is dismissed from camp for any reason, the parents/guardians are responsible to collect the camper from the Shoal Lake Landing. Should the parents/guardians be unavailable, the emergency contact assumes responsibility for pick-up of the dismissed camper, or the parent/guardian further agrees to pay for all such services and transportation as may be required. 4. While every precaution shall be taken to ensure the good welfare and protection of the applicant camper, Manitoba Pioneer Camp, its board members, directors, staff members, and employees of facilities outside of the campground are hereby released from any and all liability in the event of any accident or misfortune that may occur to the applicant camper, both on-site and while on the wilderness canoe trip. 5. The parent/guardian gives permission to Pioneer Camp to secure medical treatment and to administer camper medications and over the counter medications to the camper, while in our care, as deemed necessary by camp medical personnel. The Camp will attempt to notify the parents as soon as possible if medical treatment is required. Each camper must be covered by medical insurance. The parent/guardian agrees to be responsible for expenses relating to the purchase of medications and/or travel for medical attention. 6. The parent/guardian agrees to permit reasonable use of photos, videos or other pictures of the applicant camper in promoting Pioneer Camps and/or Pioneer Camp activities and programs, and/or Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship in general in printed and/or electronic media. 7. The use or possession of alcohol, illicit drugs, or cigarettes by campers is strictly prohibited at Camp. 8. Pioneer Camps in Canada cannot guarantee to be a “peanut-free environment”. We do seek to reduce the risk of exposure and therefore do not use or serve peanuts or nut products on camp property. Please do not send any food items to or with your camper that contain nut products (this includes chocolate bars, granola bars, etc). Any items containing nut products will be confiscated and removed from the camp. 9. The parent/guardian agrees to be responsible for the payment of all fees due to the Camp by June 30, 2015. This registration is not complete until all fees are paid. Please call our office if other payment arrangements are required. 10. The medical information given is correct, to my knowledge, and the person herein described has permission to engage in all prescribed camp activities, except as noted by myself. The camp retains the right to dismiss any camper whose condition has not been disclosed to the camp staff. The signature of the parent or guardian on this form shall give the Camp Director the right to arrange for any special medical services necessary to the applicant camper’s welfare and good health. The parent or guardian further agrees to pay for all such services and transportation as may be required IF YOUR CHILD IS TAKING THE BUS TO CAMP... All bus departures and arrivals meet at the east parking lot (off of Burmac) of the Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church, 500 Lagimodiere Blvd. All buses* depart from the E-Free Church at 9:00 am on the start date of camp, and return to the same location at approximately 4:00 pm on the end date of camp. Please make sure you arrive 15 - 30 minutes early for bus arrivals and departures, to insure smooth operations. * With the exception of the Girls 1 and Boys 1 add on overnight canoe trips. They will arrive back in the city at 2pm on their end date. Please note that these trips are 2 days longer than their initial camps. **Due to the size of the camp there will be no return bus, and due to seat belt laws we are unable to transport Camper-In-Training campers home in our van, so parents are responsible for pick up at the end of the session. IF YOU ARE DRIVING YOUR CHILD TO CAMP PRIVATELY… There is a toll booth on the camp road, likely $25 cash only, but this fee has now been included in your camper’s fees as a Transportation Cost. If you are arriving at camp via a route other than the camp road, please contact the camp to have the fee waived. Travel time is approximately two hours from the Mint in Winnipeg (Hwy 59 and Trans-Canada), or one hour from Kenora. From Manitoba, travel east on the Trans-Canada into Ontario. Take Hwy. #673 “Shoal Lake First Nation’s Road” (8 kilometers east of the Ontario border). Drive 17 km (1 km past the village) to a “Y” in the road. Stay to your LEFT and proceed down the hill.. Ahead of you is a rise with parking lot, store and gas bar and the main dock where the Pioneer III will dock to load luggage and passengers. It is important that your vehicles do not block the gas bar or entrance to the store. The treed/bush area alongside the unloading area is a sacred burial ground. Please do not enter the bush. The boat is waiting at the dock to pick up campers at 11:00 am on the start day of camp, and it drops off campers at 2:00 pm on the end date of camp. Please make sure you arrive approximately 15 - 30 minutes early to drop off/pick up your child at camp, to insure smooth operations. 2015 MANITOBA PIONEER CAMP DATES MacKinnon Island Family Camp Girls 1 Girls 1 add on overnight trip* Girls 1 add on 3 night trip Campers in Training (Co-ed, Mackinnon)** Girls 2 Girls 2 (1 week option) Boys 1 Boys 1 add on overnight trip* Boys 1 add on 5 night trip Boys 2 Boys 2 (1 week option) Fuel (Co-ed) Dates July 1 – July 4 July 6 – July 11 July 12 – July 13 July 12 – July 15 July 6 – July 8 July 20 – July 31 July 20 – 24 July 13 – 18 July 19 - July 20 July 19 – July 24 August 3 – 14 August 3 – 7 August 18 – 23 Ages All ages 8-16 8-16 12-16 6-8 8-16 8-16 8-16 8-16 12-16 8-16 8-16 13-16 Cash Island Camps Fishing Camp (Co-ed) Discovery (Boys) Campers In Training (Co-Ed, Cash) Arts Camp (Girls) Sailing Camp (Co-ed) Dates July 20 – July 24 July 6 – July 11 July 13 – July 15 August 3 – August 7 August 16 – August 22 Ages 11-14 8-11 Tripping Camps Voyageur (Boys) Co-ed Expedition Boys Challenge Boys Expedition Co-Ed Challenge Family Camp Canoe Trip Dates July 6 – July 11 July 13 – July 21 July 13 – July 31 July 22 – July 31 August 3 – August 22 August 10 – August 14 Ages 13-14 14-15 15-16 14-15 15-16 All ages Leadership Training LIT Girls LIT Boys Dates July 3 – August 2 July 16 – August 15 Ages completed gr 10 or 11 completed gr 10 or 11 12-16 13-16 CONTACTING CAMP Winnipeg Office Mailing Address PMB #321 .
