-May 15, 2015Well, it’s been a great year here at the Home of the Vikings, one that I take great pride in. For the last eight
years you have allowed me to be part of your family, to become a friend and trusted me, as principal, as we
continued to grow and improve what Marina High School is all about. We have a fantastic staff here at Marina
who truly care about kids and their future success.
I am sure that you have already heard; however, I wanted to personally reach out to all of you and let you know
that yes, indeed I will be retiring at the end of this school year. This will culminate 38 years of service in the
field of education. I have been honored to teach in all grade levels, to be a principal at the elementary,
middle, and high school levels and now experience the honor of being principal of one of the best high schools
in our area!
I’m not moving far away from this awesome school as I will be serving as a Board of Trustees member just
down the street at the Huntington Beach City School District. I also plan on continuing to run the National
Scholastic Surfing Association Jr, volunteer my time to youth through my church, become involved with a
group known as Young Life, and hopefully get out and see the world with a focus on volunteering time to those
less fortunate than us! There are also a few more mountains for me to climb! So, please let me thank you for
eight years that have been absolutely unforgettable. During that time you have allowed me to be part of your
lives, struggles, and celebrations. You have also been part of mine! I will miss you as principal but look
forward to seeing you in and around Surf City USA!
It’s also my pleasure to introduce to you the next principal of Marina High School as she takes the helm here at
the Home of the Vikings. I am so pleased to share with you that one of my colleagues, someone I have ultimate
faith in, will be your next principal. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Jessie Marion as your new principal.
Over the last year as we have worked hand in hand, I have watched as she has learned about and positively
influenced the course Marina has taken, one striving for excellence! I know I leave this great school in good
hands and encourage you to support and celebrate with her in her new role here at Marina!
Well, it’s not yet time to say good-bye but it is time to say thank you once again for being friends, family, and
one of the most positive experiences a man could ever have. Thanks from the bottom of my heart!
To our 12th graders, let’s do this my friends, we get to graduate together! On to graduation and an awesome
life!
Respectfully,
Paul R. Morrow, Ed.D.
