The Marinette Senior Center
Come check out the newly updated Marinette Senior Center. If you are 50 years of age or better you
qualify to become a member and join in on the
activities, resources and benefits your local center
offers. A yearly membership costs only $5.00 per
person or $9.00 for a couple!
Every week our center offers a variety of activities: Sheepshead, Hand and
Foot, Pinochle, Bridge, Bingo, Po-ke-no, Chess, and Cribbage. Wii Sports
and a variety of other games are also available to play! New members are
always welcome!
Your Center offers exercise opportunities to keep you moving. The
Strength and Balance exercise group are both chair exercises and standing
exercises focusing on improving mobility. Modified Zumba, Yoga and Tai
Chi are great ways to improve overall physical and mental strength. Ballroom Dance class is a fun way to exercise while learning to dance. Coming
soon will be Senior Yoga! Call the center for more information on any
of these programs.

We enjoy celebrating holidays with live music and parties. Educational
speaker programs are given on legislative issues or topics of concern for
adults over 50. Wellness clinics are held regularly. Marinette County Elderly
Services prepares and serves delicious meals Monday through Friday on site
at a very reasonable cost. Home deliveries are also available.

Little River Country Club Youth Golf Programs
Junior Golf Program features professional instruction by Peter Kretz, Class A

BOAT LAUNCH PERMITS
Annual permits are on sale at the Civic Center or at the City Clerk’s office for use
of boat landings located at Stephenson Island, the Sixth Street Slip, Red Arrow
Park and Boom Landing. $25.00 per year for your first boat, $5.00 for each additional boat.

Important Information
Registration for all Recreation Department programs should be made in person at the Civic
Center, 2000 Alice Lane, Marinette, unless otherwise noted. Payment for programs must be
received at the time registration is made.
Refund Policy– As set by the Board of Recreation Programming, refunds for programs will be
given in full if the program is cancelled by the Recreation Department due to low registration or
other reasons. Cancellations by participants will be refunded in full if the program has not yet
begun and/or your space is filled by another patron. Refunds are mailed in the form of a check
by the Finance Department at City Hall. Cash refunds are not given.

SUPERVISED PLAYGROUNDS
There is NO CHARGE for
participation in this program.
Playgrounds are open to schoolaged children ages five and older.
Three city-sponsored playgrounds
are staffed by supervisors who are
trained to offer fun activities for children. The School District of Marinette will provide FREE breakfast and lunch at all sites throughout the summer. Playgrounds
will be open for the season June 8 through August 13. Children
are free to come and go as they wish, so parents should plan
accordingly. This is not a substitute for daycare. It’s an opportunity for supervised play for school-aged children.
Playground hours are Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 3:00
PM. Supervised playgrounds are located at Fred Carney Park (230
Ogden Street), the Duer Gym (402 Williams Street) and at Higley Field
(2001 Carney Avenue).

Astronomy at the Arboretum – 3 dates at the Harmony Arboretum

Spend an evening under the stars! Introduction to stars, constellations, star lore, and other
space-related topics - includes a stargazing tour. Dress for the weather, hot beverages will be

Froggy Night Hike – May 7, 6:15-7:45 p.m. at Hemlock Curve Nature Trail Join Land &
Water Conservation Division staff on an evening hike to learn about the interesting lives of our
native frogs in the Peshtigo Harbor Wildlife Area. Hear frog songs and learn to identify them
and learn about native frog species, frogs as ecological indicators, and other frog lore. The
hike is about 2.5 miles and insect/tick repellent is recommended. Free public program. For

Spring Wildflower Walk – May 9, 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Harmony Arboretum Take a
guided tour of the spring wildflowers in the Harmony Hardwoods with local wildflower enthusiasts. Meet at the Harmony Arboretum pavilion. Good walking shoes and insect repellant recommended. Birding Hike – June 13, 6:00-8:00 a.m. at the Harmony Arboretum
Take a guided hike with Greg Cleereman, County Conservationist and recreational birder,
through the Harmony Hardwoods to learn about our native forest bird species. Good walking
shoes and insect repellant recommended. Field guides and some binoculars will be available.

Monarch Fall Migration—September 12, 10:00-11:30 AM. Review the monarch life cycle
and migration patterns. Learn how to help them on their long journey to their overwintering site
with plants that provide a rich nectar source at this time of year. Free public program. For more

The City of Marinette and Menominee and Marinette Area Chamber of

Summer Reading Clubs
Discover heroes that make our world super! The
2015 summer reading clubs for children, teens and
adults at the library will run between July 6 and
August 15. Join us for a kickoff party on June 27
at 10 AM to get ready to find the superhero in yourself, and come to weekly events at the library to
find heroes at home, in our community, in nature,

Marine Boys Basketball Camp
AQUATICS
The Civic Center Pool is an outdoor Olympic-sized swimming pool with
a .75 meter diving board and a water slide. A wading pool is available for
children ages 7 and under who are accompanied by an adult. The pool
will be open Tuesday, June 9 through Friday, August 21.
Open swim hours are 1:00-4:30 PM and 6:15-8:15 PM daily. Pool
opening requirements include a minimum air temperature of 65 degrees
during the day and 70 degrees for evening swimming. If there are less
than ten swimmers, wading pool and big pool combined, within 60
minutes of opening time during the day and 30 minutes at night, the pool
will be closed and any cash customers’ money refunded.
Daily admission to the pool is $2.50 for youth and $4.00 for adults.
There is no charge to use the wading pool.
Season Passes allow unlimited use of the pool during open swim and
adult swim times. They are not valid for swimming lessons. Passes are
not transferable, and may be used only by the purchaser.

Air mattresses, tubes, or rafts are not permitted in the pool. Noodles and
back floats are available.
Private Pool Rentals Available for birthday parties, holiday activities,
and private groups from 10:00 AM to noon daily, or after 8:30 PM. The
rental fee is $60.00 per hour for city residents, and $100.00 per hour for
non-residents. Wading pool rentals are available from 10:00 AM to
12:00 noon, and cost $25.00 per hour.
Boys in grades K-9, it’s time to kick basketball into high
gear in Marinette. The camp fee of $30.00 covers camp
instruction working on basic fundamentals and all-around
development, a camp t-shirt, and a lot of fun working with
Coach Nick Semenas and the Marine coaches and players!
Camp runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from June 15
to July 24 (No camp July 3, 15 or 17). Grades K-3 9-10 AM, Grades 4
-6 10-11 AM, and Grades 7-9 11 AM-noon. Pre-register at the Civic
Center. All proceeds benefit the MHS Boys’ Basketball Program.
Scholarships are available, if needed.
Mini Marine Cheerleader Camp
Open to children ages 4 through 12. Learn Marine cheers
and create Marine paraphernalia every day, including a camp
t-shirt, banners, signs, and more! All activities are held in the
commons area at MHS, led by Marinette Marine Cheerleaders
with support by the Recreation Department. All proceeds
above expenses benefit the High School Cheerleading program! Pre-registration required at the Civic Center. Camp dates: August 17-20, 10:00-11:30 AM each day. Fee is $30.00.
Mini Marine Running Camp
Running Camp is open to all area mid to distance runners
entering grades five through adult. Each day will consist of
a run/workout session and an informational session. Areas
of focus throughout the week include proper warm-up,
strength training, importance of core work, stretching and
flexibility, nutrition, hydration and proper workouts and visualization. Camp will meet at Marinette High School July 2023 from 8-10 AM and the fee is $30.00. Fees include five days of professional instruction by Marine Varsity Cross Country Coach Jenni

Volleyball Camp is open to players entering grades 5-8
from Marinette and surrounding schools. You will increase your knowledge of volleyball, further develop the
skills necessary to become a successful volleyball player, and have FUN! Camp will meet on Tuesdays and
Thursdays from June 16 to July 14 at Marinette High
School . Grades 5-6 will meet from 9:00-10:30 AM, and
7th and 8th grades from 10:30 AM to noon. The camp fee of $25
per player includes a camp t-shirt if you register by June 5. For

Just Kids’ Stuff Community Sale, Saturday, May 30, 8 AM to noon at the Duer Gym, 402
Williams Street. Kids – it’s time to clean your closets! Rent a 10’ x 10’ space on the playground
at the Duer Gym to sell your excess toys, games and clothing for $1.00. Pre-register at the Civic
Center to assure yourself a space. Leftover spaces available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Bring your own table. Rain/overflow site-inside the gym. No adult participants allowed, and
only “kid’s stuff’ may be sold.
Celebrate Summer Water Bash! Friday, June 12 1:00-4:30 PM, Civic Center Pool. Live Music, games and pool activities, plus pizza and popcorn for sale in the concession area! Admission is a summer program supply – crayons, chalk, glue, pool noodles – think summer fun!
Happy Father’s Day!, Sunday, June 14. Free pool admission for families who are accompanied by their DAD from 1-4:30 PM, and free tennis for dads and their families from 12-5 PM at

Kids’ Fishing Derby Friday, June 26 8:00 AM to Noon. Stephenson Island. Awards and
prizes in many categories. Co-sponsored by Marinette County Trout Unlimited. Participants
should provide their own tackle and bait. No charge, but pre-registration is required at the Civic
Center. Open to children ages five and up. Younger children may participate with a parent.
Happy Birthday, USA! – Celebrate with us at the Civic Center Pool with FREE swimming and
live music for everyone from 1-4:30 PM! The facility will close for the day at 4:30 PM to allow
our staff to celebrate the holiday with their family and friends.
Kiddie Parade Friday, July 10, 1:00 PM at the Civic Center with a local history theme!
(Loggers, farmers, and fishermen would be a great start – who else made our community what it
is today? A stop at the logging museum to investigate may be helpful.)There is no charge to
participate in the parade. All participants will line up in the Parking lot at the Civic Center at
12:30 PM. We will proceed down Alice Lane to Mary Street to Oakes Street to Georgia Street
and back to the Civic Center at 1:00 PM. All participants will receive a certificate for free admission to the Civic Center pool! No Pre-registration is required.

Bay Beach Amusement Park Bus Trip-Friday, July 17. $13.00 per person covers school bus
fare. Ride tickets can be purchased at the park, and partiicipants may either bring a bag lunch
or purchase lunch at Bay Beach. Bus departs at 9 AM and returns at 4 PM. A perfect way to
celebrate the end of summer school!
Princess Tea Party, Friday, July 24 1:00 PM at the stage on Stephenson Island. Girls ages
two and up, wear your finest princess gown, and join us for high tea. Pre-registration required.

Funset Boulevard Bus Trip Friday, July 31. $30.00 per person includes school bus fare, a
wristband for unlimited access to Laser Tag, Bumper Cars, the Kids’ Playground, Train, and
Carousel, plus 20 games tokens and a pizza and soda buffet. Bus departs 9 AM, returns at 4
PM.
Beach Party at Red Arrow Park, Friday, August 14 from 10 AM-1 PM Kiddie carnival
games, just 10 cents each. Win tickets to redeem at the prize table. Hot dogs, Popcorn and
beverages for sale, too! No pre-registration required. Event will be held rain or shine at the
enclosed pavilion.
Junior Lifeguarding
This program is designed for those children ages 11-14 who are looking
to do more in the area of aquatics. This is an introduction to lifeguarding
program for children who are interested in becoming a certified lifeguard
one day. The class helps students to develop a deeper appreciation of
the water and build a stronger foundation of aquatic and leadership skills
and knowledge for a future career in lifeguarding. Skill presentation will
include first aid, CPR and AED, safety and basic rescues and swimming
endurance. This course does not certify students to be lifeguards, but it
acts as a stepping stone for those who are not yet old enough to take
certifying lifeguarding courses.
The class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 AM-noon at
the Civic Center Pool from June 16 to July 30. Additional on-deck opportunities will be available to students during the month of August. The
cost of participation is $40.00 for Marinette city residents and $60.00 for
non-city residents. Fees are payable at the time of registration.
Pool Birthday Parties are available during
any open swim session! Fees include the assistance of one of our amazing staff members, pool
admission, use of the party tent on the pool deck,
a personalized 1/4 sheet cake, plates, forks, napkins, cups and juice. Parties must be paid in full at
the time reservations are made. Sorry, phone
reservations are not accepted.

Lap Swim and Water Walking
Lap Swim and Water Walking are available from 12:00 to 1:00 PM Monday through Friday, and from 5:00 to 6:00 PM at the Civic Center Pool
seven days per week.
On Monday/Wednesday evenings, the pool is shared with swimming
lessons.

Private Swimming Lessons
Private lessons are available for individuals of any age. (Family Lessons are also
available.) Private lessons are held Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday
from 12:15 to 12:45 PM or Tuesday/Thursday from 5:00-5:30 PM or 5:30-6:00 PM.
The cost is $45.00 for Marinette city residents or $75.00 for non-residents.
Lesson Descriptions:
Big and Little classes for parents and their children ages six months to three years focus on
developing swimming readiness by teaching children and their parents to have fun in the water
while practicing water safety.
Gearing Up Swimming Class for children ages 3 to 5 focuses on lesson preparedness independent from their parents, learning safe entry, bubble blowing, front kicking, back floating,
underwater exploration and more.
Tier 1 helps students feel comfortable in the water & to enjoy the water safely. Open only to
children ages 5 & up unless approved by the Aquatic Director. Students must be able to submerge their face, jump into the water safely, show comfort on their back, and “reach and pull”
with floatation but without direct instructor contact in order to move on to Tier 2.

on the right foot and learn how to be

sitter. The fee of $50 includes a digital certificate, valid for 2 years,
and learning materials. Classes are scheduled from 8 AM to 4:00 PM,
and all participants should bring a bag lunch and dress comfortably.
The course is available to boys and girls ages 11 and up. Class fee
must be paid at the time of registration at the Civic Center. Class size
is limited, so register soon!
DUER GYM RENTALS
Located at 402 Williams Street, the facility is available for rent on an hourly basis
when Recreation programming does not require use of the facility. The gym may
be used for athletic and other approved events, and anyone renting the gym must
be at least 18 years of age. A $20 key deposit is required in addition to the $21
per hour rental fee. The key deposit is returned upon return of the key after the
rental. To reserve the Duer Gym, contact the Civic Center at 715-732-5222.
Indoor Walking/Running
We can help you stay off of the treadmill and still avoid
inclement weather….walk or run indoors!
Indoor walking is available at the Civic Center from
7:30 to 9:00 AM Monday through Friday. 10 1/2 laps
around the dome equal one mile. There is no charge.
Tier 2 Gives students success with fundamental skills. New skills: float/recover, simultaneous
& alternate arm/leg actions on front and back, basic self-help & rescue skills.
Tier 3 builds on the Level 2 skills by providing additional guided practice. New skills include
coordination of front and back crawl, introduction of butterfly, fundamentals of treading water,
and the rules of head-first entry.
Tier 4 develops confidence in the strokes learned and improves other aquatic skills. New skills
include elementary backstroke, breaststroke, and element of sidestroke, building on the butterfly, and working on endurance of front and back crawl.
Tier 5 provides further coordination and refinement of strokes. New skills include introduction
of flip turns on front and back , increased distances, and refining performance of all strokes.
Tier 6 refines the strokes so students can swim them with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. Students can expect to work on endurance in all four competitive
swimming strokes.

TENNIS
Indoor Tennis is available year-round at the Civic Center Domes. The court rate is $28.00 per hour for adults,
and $16.00 per hour, per court for youth-only on the
court.
Tennis Lessons
Tennis Lessons are offered for ages four through adult at
the Civic Center Domes. All lesson programs are directed by experienced
tennis players. The cost for youth lessons is $23.00 for city residents, and
$40.00 for non-residents.
Youth Tennis Lessons for boys and girls ages 4-18 are held Mondays
and Wednesdays, June 15 to July 29.

Adult Tennis Lessons for adults who are new to tennis or would like to

Two courts inside the Civic Center Domes as well as
the two courts located at Division Street are marked for
Pickle Ball. Regular court fees apply at the Civic Center, and there is no charge for use of the outdoor courts
at Division Street. Official rules for Pickle Ball can be

available for use at the Civic Center courts—ask at the
front desk.
BARTA (Bay Area Regional Tennis Association) is working hard
to promote tennis in our area! Membership forms are available at
the Civic Center, and dues are $10 for the year. Your membership
will help promote tennis in the Bay Area and will also give you discounts on BARTA-sponsored tournaments. Members are welcome
to attend board meetings held on the first Thursday of every month
at 5:30 PM at the Marinette Civic Center.

Learning Sessions
First Aid Demonstration for Parents is for parents and grandparents, who would like an introduction or basic refresher on first aid
knowledge related to children and infants. Each demonstration will consist of approximately a half-hour demonstration and hands-on practice in the
classroom area at the Civic Center at 6:00 PM on each of the dates

Our premier 18-hole course is located at Marinette City
Park, the course is FREE for use. Discs are available for

T-Ball
Boys and girls ages three to six will learn the
fundamentals of baseball on Tuesdays and
Thursdays. The first two weeks are set aside
for learning the basics of the game, and ages 3
& 4 will meet from 9:00-10:00 AM, and ages 5 &
6 from 10:15-11:15 AM from June 9-18. Instructors will then split the players into teams,
and everyone will receive their game schedule
and t-shirt on June 18 for the remainder of the
season. The season will run until July 23.
(Rain games are not made up.)
