JAMIA MARKAZ GOES GLOBAL
TOWARDS MAKING A
GREENER SENSE
IN SOCIETY
MESSAGE
from the
Chancellor
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Assalamu Alaykum.
“The Learned are those who Practice what they Know.” -Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
With the immense blessings of Almighty Allah and the unconditional support of everyone
who love, Markaz is making milestones with fresher thoughts and solid actions.
In its global approach and enhancement to offer educational and charity services,
Jamia Markaz always carried on certain standard applications. These approaches have been
rightly recognized by the world outside, especially the Muslim Ummah, the most recent
among them is the affiliation of the Jamia with the renowned International Islamic University
of Malaysia, (IIUM). This is the fifth, including Jordan and Yemen, University that rightly
accredited, the educational assimilation and academic module of Jamia Markaz.
Enlightening the society with right education and integrating the seemingly
impossible for the ultimate goodness, are the missions of Markaz in modernizing education
and moralizing the posterity. New explorations, newer possibilities and newest
achievements, in spreading the real light of knowledge; locally and globally!
Markaz Knowledge City, the subsequent phase of Jamia Markaz, is flowing fast en
route for its aspiration. The Law College, the Unani Medical College, the International School,
the Engineering College, the Specialty Hospital the Retirement Village…etc are in diverse
junctures. Markaz have been heavenly fortunate to receive the scientific and highly technical
knowhow from some of the internationally acclaimed experts like Dr. Nazeer Ahmed, the
scientist from NASA and Dr. Abdussalam, a formerly of ISRO. The master brain of many
patents, Dr. Nazeer Ahmed has been appointed as the Chief Educational Advisor to MKC,
while Dr. Abdussalam is the operational head, and under such reputed guidance, MKC is sure
to imprint a stamp of educational explosion with core values and traditions.
The joys of the supporters are doubled in coming days, as Markaz International
Conference is drawing near. Globalizing the charity reach, making transnational relations
and spreading the message of education and humanity to inventive heights; the 37th
anniversary will be a venue to showcase them all. Even when soaring elevations and
reaching remotes, Markaz do keep the faith and roots firm on the ground. A deliberation of all
these are reflected in the new Headline, left for you!
In the holy month of Ramadan, let us request each other with sincere prayers to
achieve and fulfill our missions. May Allah reinforce our drives and uphold our aims.
Sincerely,
Sheikh Abubaker Ahmed,
Chancellor Jamia Markaz.

5th INTERNATIONAL AFFILIATION,
JAMIA MARKAZ GOES GLOBAL ;
SIGNS MoU WITH IIUM MALAYSIA
K
uala Lumpur: In a stimulating
development in the course of academic
collaboration, Jamia Markaz signed
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with
International Islamic University Malaysia
(IIUM), one of the premium universities in the
world. Barring four national affiliations with
Indian Universities, this would be the 5th
affiliation of Markaz with world rank
universities.
The MoU between Jamia Markaz and
IIUM was signed by Chancellor Sheikh Abubaker
and the Director of IIUM Dr. S. Qamaruddin at
Doctors chamber in the premise of IIUM.
Knowledge exchange, seats for higher studies,
researches on specialized themes, equalization
of courses, exchange of students and faculties...
etc. are some among many innovative initiatives
premeditated between Jamia Markaz and IIUM
4
through the affiliation.
Founded on Islamic principles, the
International Islamic University of Malaysia was
established in 23 May 1983, where core Islamic
values are inculcated with all disciplines. The
university offers bachelor's, master's degrees
and PhD programmes in its 13 faculties; also
known as kulliyyah. Since 1987, in multiple
disciplines, 60,785 graduates have successfully
come out from the IIUM, comprising 53,241
Malaysians and 7,530 international students.
The idea of an international Islamic
education institution was conceived in 1982 by
the great visionary and the fourth Prime
Minister of Malaysia, H. H. Tun Dr. Mahathir bin
Mohamad during a meeting between OIC
leaders, which proposed to establish an
International Academia for tertiary education
based on Islamic principles, known as the

AL QASIMI
Sharjah: Art should be genuine and humane, where
there is immense scope for identifying with the ailing
poor and contribute to the cultural reciprocities of
countries, said Sheikh Abubaker Ahmed, Chancellor
Jamia Markaz, while making his visit to the museum
here at the Art Exhibition, Sharjah, UAE. Sheikh
Abubaker visited UAE Supreme Council Member and
'Islamization of Knowledge'. The thought was later
shared with the then Minister of Education, Dato'
Amar Dr. Sulaiman Daud; the Director-General of
Education, Tan Sri Dato' Hj Murad bin Mohamad Nor
and two other persons. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kamal bin
Hassan, then of the National University of Malaysia,
a senior academic official who attended the
meeting, produced the first draft of the concept of
the university.
On 23 May 1983, IIUM was officially set up
when the University received its 'Establishment
Order' from His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong
Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta'in Billah, after an
exchange of Diplomatic Notes of co-sponsorship
between the Government of Malaysia and some
Muslim Governments as well as the OIC. On 1 July
1983, Ahmad Shah was appointed as the first
Constitutional Head of the IIUM and it was declared
that the medium of instruction of the university was
to be English and Arabic, and many of its students
would come from overseas. As the Malaysian law did
not allow for this, IIUM was incorporated under the
Companies Act of 1965. Thus it became the first
Ruler of Sharjah, His Excellency, Dr. Sultan bin
Muhammad Al Qasimi and discussed the educational
and cultural reforms that are undertaken by both the
countries aiming to the development of Muslim
community in the meeting. Shareef Karassery,
Manager the Siraj Daily and Jaleel Saquafi also
accompanied him in the visit.
international university and the first university in
Malaysia to use English as the medium of instruction
and administration.
Since its first batch, consisting national and
international students, is out in 1983, more than
60,000 students have been graduated from IIUM so
far. Economics, Law, Fundamental Knowledge and
Languages were the faculties at the formative years
of IIUM, which offered courses in Law and
Administration of Islamic Judiciary.
The new affiliation and innovative
initiatives would largely benefit the students in both
universities in their academic and research
programme. Integration of Islamic knowledge with
an international ambience, cultural exchange,
intellectual interactions, vernacular publishing...etc.
are among the various curriculums conceived by the
authorities.
Earlier, Jamia Markaz is in affiliation with Al
Azhar University Egypt, Amman Islamic University
Jordan, Darul Mustafa University, Yemen and
Muhammadul Fatih Waqf University Turkey.

TURKEY INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE CONFERENCE
A REPLICA TO GO AFTER FOR ISLAMIC UNIVERSITIES
Dr. MAH AZHARI
Istanbul: Delivering his guest address, Dr. MAH Azhari,
Director of Jamia Markaz, emphasized that the model,
displayed by the 6th International Graduate Conference
at Istanbul, could be followed by Islamic Universities in
other parts as well.
The Istanbul Foundation for Science and
Culture were the organizers and the conference offered
a unique opportunity for the doctoral and master's
students to develop their understanding of Said Nursi, a
great reformer popularly known as Bediüzzaman, was
the 19th century Sunni Muslim theologian, and identified
by his renowned philosophy, the Risale-i Nur Collection,
a body of Qur'anic commentary exceeding six thousand
pages. Importantly, the format for this conference was
an evolution and a refinement compared to previous
conferences because of its more allocation of time for
students to discuss their papers and receive further
reviews.
The design of these conferences has always
been to provide a platform for students and scholars to
share their ideas and develop thoughts as well as offer
constructive criticism of their works. It has a track
record of attracting newcomers to Nursi studies and
inspiring them for the reason that the constructive ideas
and fruitful dialogue that emerges in the conference
milieu and which sends a positive message to the rest of
the Muslim world.
Dr. Azhari was the chief guest from India, in
Istanbul, for the Graduate Conference, which was the
largest, with more than 60 young scholars and
observers from around the world attending the event in
Turkey, the medium of which was English. This time
delegates included from countries like the USA, England,
Iran, Singapore, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Malaysia, and
South Africa apart from local participation. Muhammad
Roshan and Muhammad Ashraf, both students of Jamia
Markaz also presented papers in the three-day
conference, held between the 14th and 16th June at the
BikaSuites Hotel featuring vibrant programmes that
included a Bosphoros tour and a memorable gala dinner
at Rustem Pasa Madrasa.
The conference was chaired by five senior
academics, namely, Dr. Ian Markham of the Virginia
School of Theology (USA), Dr Colin Paul Turner of
Durham University (UK), Dr Sait. M. Özervarl of Yildiz
Technical University (Turkey), Dr Farid Alatas of
Singapore National University, and Ismail Hacınebioğl
from Süleyman Demirel University (Turkey),
respectively in the morning and afternoon sessions of
the three days. Each chairperson administered the
presentations of two graduates, making a total of nine

MARKAZ HARITHAM;
TOWARDS MAKING A
GREENER SENSE IN SOCIETY
Jamia Markaz: creating a biotic sense and promoting a

SHEIKH ABUBAKER AHMED
Jamia Markaz: Spirituality is the foundation for
the personal, social and cultural life of a believer,
said Chancellor Sheikh Abubaker Ahmed in his
keynote address at the Khatmul Bukhari
Conference held at Markaz. Today, people are
after the momentary pleasures of the temporal
world thus the believers forget the inner
happiness achieved by spiritual life. To an
original believer spirituality should be the
prevailing factor in all his walks of life; that would
reveal him the paths of realization, he added.

“A TRIBUTE TO TAJUL ULEMA”
MARKAZ PAYS HOMAGE TO THE SCHOLAR HEADSHIP
J
amia Markaz: With heavy hearts and praying lips,
hundreds of thousands of believers thronged in the
special spiritual conference organized in memoriam of
the great sayyid, guru, scholar and leader of our time;
Tajul Ulema Sayyid Abdurahman Al Bukhari, or the
better known, Ullal Thangal, here in Markaz. Jamia
Chancellor Sheikh Abubaker Ahmed delivered the
commemorative speech at “A tribute to Tajul Ulema”,
paying lofty deference to the departed soul.
Remembering Tajul Ulema, he said that,
Thangal was the unparalleled scholar and brave leader
of the Muslim community and his absence is a heavy
loss, which cannot be repaired or replaced. His
profound knowledge in the Holy Qur'an, Prophetic
traditions and Islamic books really spell bounded many
and he dedicated himself for the cause of spreading the
spiritual enlightenment and heavenly knowledge. He
was both bold and brawny in matters related to the
original faith and practice of Islam. His disciple circle
included great scholars who are committed to keep the
light of knowledge for the posterities. His students
could never go wrong or astray, for he had the spiritual
16
connection and guidance for all of them. It is a false
argument in Islam that those who have passed away
should not be commemorated. At the same time there
are solid proofs that it is a good practice for the entire
Muslim community to remember the great Auliya and
scholars, and thereby enhance our lives, added Sheikh
Abubaker.
The programme was enriched with spiritual
agendas like Burda recitation, Khatmul Qur'an, Tahleel
and special prayers. The staff and students offered
thousands of Khatmul Quran and millions of Thahleel
for Thajul Ulema. C. Muhammad Faizee welcomed and
Dr. Husain Saquafi delivered the introductory speech.
Other than thousands of Sharia students and laymen,
VIP participants included Sayyid Ibrahim Khaleel

topics, in three days of unique Islamic conference, where
they experienced the true models for life and mission.
The grand Da’awa workshop offered an exceptional
opportunity for selected group of Islamic missionaries
from different Da’awa colleges of Kerala, giving them
practical orientations for the field.
‘Multaqa’ was the first convocation for the
graduates of Madeenathunnoor College, a highly
pragmatic institution with integrated curriculum of
Islamic and general academics under the aegis of
Markaz, where 65 scholars were awarded of the
“Noorani” religious degree, after proving themselves
with credentials of field Da’awa and successful study
based applications. Nooranis, with their flawless
learning and co-scholastic talents of seven years in
Markaz Garden, have already pencilled in a distinctive
map of India, identifying the reasons and remedies for
illiteracy and sufferings in the far-off terrains. This could
enable them to launch individual Da’awa projects, of
local and international perspective, in the conference.
The three days International conference was
truly global, thematically distinct and environmentally
secure. To diminish the ecological threat, no billboard of
flex or synthetic material were used in the campaign and
cost-effective eco friendly methods were applied.
During the three days of non-stop intellectual
discourses and discussions, no plastic materials were
used on any instances, especially while serving the food.
Efforts were made to minimize sound pollution and a
notable feature of the Da’awa meet was that, instead of
familiar open ground vocalizations, result oriented
intellectual discussions from scholars, scientists,
professionals, intellectuals and philanthropists were
facilitated for the disciplined massive audience, who
participated with some purpose.
Sayyid Abdul Fatah Quraidash Yafee Yamen
inaugurated the International Conference and scholars
from across the world offered affluent studies on
contemporary topics in Islamic perspective. Jamia
Chancellor, Sheikh Abubaker Ahmed, delivered the
Madhur Rasool lecture, Dr. MAH Azhari, MGGI rector and
the mentor of Nooranis, brought a comparative analysis
of Islamic life in India and other countries, and he
virtually adopted some of the elapsed Islamic traditions
at the conference venue. Markaz General Manager C
Muhammad Faizi spoke at the concluding session and
Sayyid Ibraheem Khaleel al Bukhari, Ponmala Abdul
Qadir Musliyar, K.K. Ahmed Kutty Musliyar, Dr. Hussain
Saquafi, Perode Abdurahiman Saquafi also attended
different sittings.

Sheikh Abubaker in Baqiyath Convocation calls for
Back to the Tradition,
Back to Sunni Unity
Vellore: When the great predecessors adhered to the
untainted belief, when the authentic scholars followed
the great tradition, where is the question of deviation and
differences? asked Sheikh Abubaker in his speech at the
centenarian College of Vellore Baqiyath Swalihat. He was
delivering the convocational address on the occasion of
the 150th anniversary of the renowned centre of Islamic
wisdom.
Unity is significant in achieving progress for the
community and it is the need of the hour for Sunni
Muslims all over India. However, our tradition was of a
peaceful co-existence, having accord and cooperation
among the Muslim Ummah, where the belief was pure
and spotless and it is the responsibility of the present
generation to stick to the same line and that alone leads to
the harmony and love of the community, any alterations
or adjustments in belief and practice will adversely affect
the purpose, he said. Baqiyath is a great institution which
gave birth to many eminent Islamic scholars who are
spread in different parts of the country and this mother
institution can well knit the different factions, which
should not be attempted by sacrificing any of the
fundamental principles of the religion, he added.
Sayyid Ibrahim Khalil Al Bukhari, Dr. Husain
Saquafi, Mukhtar Hazrath Baqawi, K.K. Ahmed Kutty
Musliyar, Basheer Faizee, Saeedali Hazrat, Najeeb
Moulavi spoke in the conference.
