Barring four national affiliations with Indian Universities, this would be the 5th affiliation of Markaz with world rank universities. The MoU between Jamia Markaz and IIUM was signed by Chancellor Sheikh Abubaker and the Director of IIUM Dr. S. Qamaruddin at Doctors chamber in the premise of IIUM. Knowledge exchange, seats for higher studies, researches on specialized themes, equalization of courses, exchange of students and faculties... etc. are some among many innovative initiatives premeditated between Jamia Markaz and IIUM 4 through the affiliation. Founded on Islamic principles, the International Islamic University of Malaysia was established in 23 May 1983, where core Islamic values are inculcated with all disciplines. The university offers bachelor's, master's degrees and PhD programmes in its 13 faculties; also known as kulliyyah. Since 1987, in multiple disciplines, 60,785 graduates have successfully come out from the IIUM, comprising 53,241 Malaysians and 7,530 international students. The idea of an international Islamic education institution was conceived in 1982 by the great visionary and the fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia, H. H. Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad during a meeting between OIC leaders, which proposed to establish an International Academia for tertiary education based on Islamic principles, known as the SHEIKH ABUBAKER MEETS AL QASIMI Sharjah: Art should be genuine and humane, where there is immense scope for identifying with the ailing poor and contribute to the cultural reciprocities of countries, said Sheikh Abubaker Ahmed, Chancellor Jamia Markaz, while making his visit to the museum here at the Art Exhibition, Sharjah, UAE. Sheikh Abubaker visited UAE Supreme Council Member and 'Islamization of Knowledge'. The thought was later shared with the then Minister of Education, Dato' Amar Dr. Sulaiman Daud; the Director-General of Education, Tan Sri Dato' Hj Murad bin Mohamad Nor and two other persons. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kamal bin Hassan, then of the National University of Malaysia, a senior academic official who attended the meeting, produced the first draft of the concept of the university. On 23 May 1983, IIUM was officially set up when the University received its 'Establishment Order' from His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta'in Billah, after an exchange of Diplomatic Notes of co-sponsorship between the Government of Malaysia and some Muslim Governments as well as the OIC. On 1 July 1983, Ahmad Shah was appointed as the first Constitutional Head of the IIUM and it was declared that the medium of instruction of the university was to be English and Arabic, and many of its students would come from overseas. As the Malaysian law did not allow for this, IIUM was incorporated under the Companies Act of 1965. Thus it became the first Ruler of Sharjah, His Excellency, Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi and discussed the educational and cultural reforms that are undertaken by both the countries aiming to the development of Muslim community in the meeting. Shareef Karassery, Manager the Siraj Daily and Jaleel Saquafi also accompanied him in the visit. international university and the first university in Malaysia to use English as the medium of instruction and administration. Since its first batch, consisting national and international students, is out in 1983, more than 60,000 students have been graduated from IIUM so far. Economics, Law, Fundamental Knowledge and Languages were the faculties at the formative years of IIUM, which offered courses in Law and Administration of Islamic Judiciary. The new affiliation and innovative initiatives would largely benefit the students in both universities in their academic and research programme. Integration of Islamic knowledge with an international ambience, cultural exchange, intellectual interactions, vernacular publishing...etc. are among the various curriculums conceived by the authorities. Earlier, Jamia Markaz is in affiliation with Al Azhar University Egypt, Amman Islamic University Jordan, Darul Mustafa University, Yemen and Muhammadul Fatih Waqf University Turkey. 5 TOP STORY NASA SCIENTIST Dr. NAZEER AHMED APPOINTED AS CHIEF EDUCATIONAL ADVISER TO MKC M arkaz Knowledge City: Dr. Nazeer Ahmed has been appointed as the chief educational adviser of Markaz Knowledge City.
