LOFT INSULATION MOISTURE PROBLEMS PRODUCT GUIDE Up to 25% of the heat generated in an average home can be lost through your loft space if it is not properly insulated. Loft insulation works like the lid to a cosy tea pot. Instead of the heat escaping though the roof it remains inside, making it much warmer and more comfortable. Loft insulation also makes your home more cost effective to heat, as it decreases the demand on your heating system. Less energy is required after loft insulation is installed to reach the same temperatures as before. LOFT INSULATION The loft space is a large open space located at the top of the house directly underneath the roof, accessible via a loft hatch. Up to 25% of the heat generated from your home can be lost through the loft space if it is not properly insulated. It is recommended that a depth of 270mm of insulation is installed into the loft space to prevent heat escaping and thus increasing the thermal performance of properties. Market Owl have approved installers of various loft insulation materials and can offer advice on which will best suit the property in question. THE INSTALLATION PROCESS THE PROCESS 1 The installation process is designed to be as hassle-free for you as possible and takes just a couple of hours for the average property to have loft insulation fitted. SITE MANAGEMENT A fully trained surveyor will undertake a thorough survey, which will include details of insulation material, the depth of the insulation and also the ventilation. They will advise you of the cost of installing loft insulation, and any non-repayable grant that you may be entitled to. POST INSTALLATION All work carried out is managed in the interests of both the client and the installer’s employees. Up to 25% of installations promoted by Market Owl are monitored; either by the installer carrying out the work for training and feedback, or the body from which funding/financial assistance was achieved. COMPANY POLICY 2 The installer’s call centre will contact you to arrange a convenient time for one of their crews to come and carry out the work. 3 Site preparation is carried out, with a check on access around and into the property and loft area. 4 The loft is double checked for any building defects in relation to the loft insulation being installed. 5 The location of the loft hatch is ascertained followed by confirmation of the location of any water tanks and pipes within the loft. Market Owl’s approved installers have carried out over 100,000 successful installations of its services within the last 3 years alone. Working with local authorities and energy agencies on many bespoke projects aimed at insulating homes throughout England and Wales. 6 When all checks are complete and the results deemed to be satisfactory, the installation process commences. HEALTH AND SAFETY 7 Adequate ventilation within the loft must be achieved and pre agreed means to achieve this are installed. 8 Pipes and tanks are then insulated, along with the loft hatch. Insulation material is laid between the joists, then cross laid over the top of the joists where possible. 9 Once the loft is fully insulated, additional measures can be installed such as boarding, lighting etc. 10 A final inspection of the site is completed with the customer before the job is signed off and acknowledged as satisfactory by the customer. All staff will provide a courteous, helpful and friendly service to the highest professional standards. At all times staff will seek to demonstrate a flexible and responsive attitude to the customers.
