Back on tour: the award winning New York guitarist, and top
Concord / Arbors recording artist, usually reckoned to be World’s
Number One. Howard brings his favourite British sax player, the
marvellous Karen Sharp, along with Simon Woolf, bass, Denis
Smith on drums. Please note this is a Wednesday date, to fit in
with Howard’s short visit. Another world star here in Marlow! £8

Tuesday May 19 : A Marlow Jazz Club gig, at the Royal British Legion
Hall, but as part of Marlow’s Wind & Brass Festival:
DEREK NASH(saxes)& MARTIN SHAW(trumpet)
with The Frank Toms Trio. A much acclaimed partnership of two of the
country’s top jazzmen: Derek will bring his armoury of various saxes. He is
leader of Sax Appeal and soloist with Jools Holland, with a great
personality. Martin is just brilliant on his trumpet. Don’t miss this one ! £8

Friday May 29th: The Jazz Gig in the 2015 Wycombe Arts Festival is
here in Marlow, for the very first time, at Royal British Legion Hall:
SIMON SPILLETT & PETER KING REMEMBER TUBBY HAYES.
Award winning tenor saxophonist and Buckinghamshire’s finest jazzman
joins up with the legendary alto player Peter, plus an all-star rhythm

Peter of course was a contemporary of Tubby. You are very strongly advised to book in advance for
this one, as it will be widely advertised by the Arts Festival. Advance tickets available at the April
22nd or May 19 th gigs also at the Tourist Office, Institute Road. If you a re not able to get to any of

Tuesday June 16 “TOUGH TENORS” - ART THEMEN & DON WELLER
ART
Art (“Doctor Jazz”) Themen is a regular star here at the Club,
but it has been many years since we welcomed his favourite
sparring partner in the red beret, the larger than life Don
Weller. Their occasional gigs together (“Tough Tenors”) have
raised the roof at venues all over Great Britain, plus some
dates in Europe. Dynamic stuff (with Frank’s Trio) bringing
back memories of the great tenor duos the past, Dexter
Gordon / Wardell Grey; Gene Ammons / Sonny Stitt, etc. £8

Looking much further ahead, we have already pencilled in gigs with the band from Hungary that drew last year’s bigge st
attendance (and loudest cheers) - The Budapest Ragtime Band (September). Benn Clatworthy, back on tour from Los
Angeles (October), and he will line up with Art Themen. Plus (a joint presentation at Christ Church URC) the return of the
marvellous New York pianist, widely compared to Oscar Peterson: Lenore Raphael. (also October) More details later on.
THE BBO BERKS BUCKS & OXON BIG BAND PLAY CHARITY CONCERTS AT THE RBL HALL LAST THURSDAY OF THE MONTH
8.15pm, EXCEPT JULY AUGUST AND DECEMBER. 17 FINE MUSICIANS AND 2 VOCALISTS. 8.15pm ADMISSION £6.
