P1 Friday Preconference 9.00am – 5.00pm Movement Competency Uncovered This full day workshop will explore the tenants of Dr Kritz’s philosophy on movement competency and the paradigm that underpins his exercise prescription. Delegates will learn how to conduct a movement competency screen, identify movement incompetencies and learn effective strategies for improving the movement competency of each of the fundamental movement patterns (i.e. squatting, lunging, upper push, upper pull, trunk rotation, trunk flexion and single leg movement tasks). This workshop is a must if you want to understand how to identify and correct poor movement competency in your clients. A1 & B1 Saturday 9.00 – 12.30 Movement Matters This session will take delegates through a corrective movement competency screen consult with delegates from the audience graciously demonstrating how specific verbal cues and modest training equipment can be used to improve an individual’s movement strategies for long term wellness and performance. He will provide a detailed description of why he has found the movements presented to be the most beneficial at developing and enhancing an individual’s physical prowess. Delegates can expect to walk away from this session with pockets filled with gold nuggets to enhance their exercise prescription repertoire. 4 Garry Lavis Garry is the founder of Platinum Remedial Massage Training and has been a Remedial Massage Therapist for 12 years. P3 Friday Preconference 9.00 – 5.00pm Active Isolated Stretching (A.I.S.) This "new age" of stretching is muscle specific, gentle and easy to master. This workshop is an adapted programme from Stewart Wild's "Bodies behaving badly". Stewart spent four months as an apprentice to Aaron Mattes who wrote the book titled ACTIVE ISOLATED STRETCHING: The Mattes Method. You will find that it will add another dimension to the service you can offer your clients using it extensively for injury prevention, rehabilitation, sports training and performance, longevity enhancement and in general, help lead a healthier lifestyle. AIS is: Active - the athlete or client carries out the Range of Movement Isolated- It isolates each muscle group surrounding a specific joint Stretching- by giving a 2/3 second overstretch (just long enough before the stretch reflex "kicks in," and by repeating the same 5 technique Stew Wild passed on from his learnings in the States. It was included into her recovery programme and she saw vast improvements immediately, not only in her technique, but also her flexibility. Dawn has since used it extensively with other athletes, in rehabilitation, recovery and general flexibility creating longevity to our aging population. movement ten times it becomes ingrained into their muscle memory AND as Stew Wild would say, "it puts that spring back into your step". This one day workshop will be a practical session covering the full lower body E1 & F1 Sunday 11.00 – 14.45 Active Isolated Stretching This session will cover the principles of AIS (see above) and teach therapists how to apply the techniques to the lower body using a strap so they can teach their clients to perform the stretches themselves. P4 Massage Educators Workshop A few years ago MNZ held their inaugural massage educators workshop as part of the annual MNZ conference. Desiree also studied Manual Lymphatic Drainage with Jill Griffiths, Weller Institute, Australia and she is currently the only New Zealander who is American trained in this specialised modality. Desiree then developed the therapy Lymphatic Enhancement Technology in conjunction with Arcturus Star Products (the makers of the Lymphstar Pro®) and is their accredited International Trainer. Desiree was awarded a research fellowship with Flinders University, Adelaide and completed a trial alongside Professor Neil Pillar, into the benefits of the mild frequency vibration to the chest, axilla and arm in patients with clinically diagnosed arm lymphoedema secondary to breast cancer surgery in November 2010. A2 Saturday 9.00 – 10.30am The Lymphatic System: Its role in the body, its essential link to a healthy immunity and its role in supporting the quality of your health The lymphatic system over the years, has had little research or investigation in its role in health other than fluid removal eg oedema. But a recent review of the vascular physiology now shows the lymphatic system is responsible for removing up to 80% of tissue fluid within the body and therefore this system is now obtaining more medical interest in its role and effects on the body. This presentation will educate you on how the lymphatic system works, its relationship to immunity and methods of lymphatic movement. A3 & B3 Saturday 9.00 – 12.30 Neurolinguistic Programming NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming) is a set of tools for understanding how we work. As massage therapists we can both listen to the language our clients are using, to get an understanding of where they are at, and use our own "conversation" to accentuate the healing we facilitate. It is said that "we cannot not communicate". This workshop gives you an insight in to how to make this communication create a synergy with our hands-on skills, rather than inadvertently creating the opposite. Come prepared to play! B2 Saturday 11.00 – 12.30 Adolescent injuries in Sport: Sport during adolescence has proven immediate and life-long benefits to bone, cardiovascular and mental health. However adolescence is also a very vulnerable period with a high risk for injury and burnout.
