As is now customary at Mayfield, we will be `moving up` all year

As is now customary at Mayfield, we will be ‘moving up’ all year groups on Wednesday 17th June 2015. Therefore, pupils currently in year:

R and 7 will move into Year 1 and 8 respectively, the timings of the school day remain the same;

8 will move into Year 9, they will no longer have morning ‘Resilience’ and should arrive by 8.40am;

9 will move into Year 10 and begin their option subjects;

10 will move into Year 11 and should make sure they have purchased their new tie.
We will also be running an extended transition for pupils in Year 6 who will be joining Mayfield in September 2015.
We are currently in the processes of interviewing for our prefects and senior prefects, including the Head Boy and Girl. Those pupils selected to be
prefects will be awarded a red tie and issued with their badge in the ‘moving on’ assembly on Friday 12th June.
Parents and carers of pupils at the school will receive an end of half term posting home over the holiday containing some important information and a letter from me.
Please note that progress reports will only be sent home for Year R and 11. All other year groups will receive their end of year reports before Friday 12th June. As ever,

With the start of the new academic year, many of you may be thinking about replacing items of school uniform. Please be aware that the ‘Friends of Mayfield’ are
collecting good quality, clean items of uniform to sell on as part of their fund raising drive. If you have any items of uniform you no longer need, then please do consider
sending them in to the Main Reception clearly marked “FOM”. Many thanks.
* School closed for staff training: Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th June 2015 *

Please remember:

Library books are changed on a Wednesday. Lost or damaged books will incur a charge;

Please note that the extra-curricular clubs will be changing after half term. Therefore you will need to book places in the usual way, using the
online booking system. These clubs go ‘live’ from Friday 22nd May.
At the start of the term you were given a ‘Proud cloud’. We have sent another one home in the children’s book bags. This is to celebrate any achievement that you are all
proud of. Perhaps it’s a swimming award or riding a bike or sleeping through the whole night! Whatever it is please return it and we can add it to your child’s learning
journey.
You will notice that the children have been issued with a ‘Portsmouth City library card’ and book. This is for them to visit one of the 10 libraries and borrow up to 20
books, talking books, magazines. They also run story and rhyme times and special events during school holidays. Get involved – it’s free!!

poem Slow Train To Portsmouth which will be shown at the central library in Gulidhall square on 22nd and 23rd June. We have hosted pupils from Admiral Lord Nelson
School, City Girls, Bridgmary and City Boys, these pupils work will also be displayed on 22nd and 23rd June.

All of Year 8 are about to embark on their next STEM Project, entitled ‘The Blitz’. Science, Maths, English and History are devoting their lessons next week to covering
many aspects of this harrowing time, including:
• Making gunpowder
• Making air-raid shelters
• Understanding the scale of destruction that explosives can cause
• The literature written during that time
• Writing descriptions of what we think it was like to live through The Blitz
• Understanding why it happened, and what it meant for Portsmouth
Keep a look out here for a reflection of the work that our students cover.
Infants Trip to Longdown Dairy Farm
On Friday 15th of May Jellyfish and Seahorse classes went to Longdown Dairy Farm. We arrived at school and saw the coach waiting. We all sat excitedly on the coach
with our friends. At the farm we saw many animals. As it is Spring, there were also many baby animals. We fed calves and kids milk from a bottle. We also fed the pigs
and goats. We were able to hold chicks and stroke goats. We enjoyed our lunch outside on the picnic benches. At the end of our time at the farm we got back onto the
coach to travel back to school. We had a fantastic day and our teachers were so proud of our behaviour whilst at the farm. Well done everyone!
