Traditional Therapeutic Action
We take you back to the roots of these most effective herbs and it is not surprising that we see
the origins traced back to the Native Indians in Canada. The first part of the story about Essiac began
in 1922. Nurse Rene Caisse, one of 11 children of a Roman Catholic family, was working in a hospital
in Haileybury Ontario when she noticed a patient with a gnarled and scarred breast. The patient told
her a growth had appeared on her breast while she and her husband were camping in a northern mining
community. An Indian friend offered to heal it but being conventional and sceptical, the couple
journeyed to Toronto instead, and there, doctors confirmed the diagnosis of cancer. The breast would
have to be surgically removed.
Because a friend had recently died after a mastectomy and since they had no money for
hospitals in those pre-medicare days, they returned to the camp and embarked on the Indian’s brew.
The Indian showed her how to gather herbs, to make the tea, and treat herself. The breast began to
improve and 20 years later when Rene Caisse encountered this woman she found her alive, the breast
was scarred, but it was not cancerous. It wasn’t until 1924 when a favorite aunt was pronounced in the
terminal stages of cancer, that Rene gave serious thought to the Indian herbal treatment. So Rene
sought permission from her aunt’s doctor, Dr. R.O. Fisher to try the Indian brew, he had nothing better
to offer, so he gave his blessing. After 2 months of her drinking the brew daily, her aunt rallied,
strengthened and lived another 20 years. Since then Essiac has been used successfully for many years
as a complement to cancer treatments.
In Mexico where Mildred Nelson, RN also a registered nurse was associated with the
Hoxsey therapy from 1946 until the time of her death in January of 1999. She worked with Harry
Hoxsey in her native state of Texas for almost two decades. In her lifetime of service, she helped
thousands of people. The Hoxsey therapy is the oldest unconventional or alternative nontoxic cancer
therapy in continuous use in North America. Its origins date back to 1840, when John Hoxsey
reportedly noticed that one of his horses had a cancerous leg that was apparently healed after it chose
and ate herbs and plants not normal to its diet.
Decades of experimentation by the Hoxsey family, on animals and then on humans, led to the
development of several herbal-based medicines for cancer, primarily a liquid herbal “tonic” and a
topical salve. Since its inception in 1840, the Hoxsey therapy and its proprietary herbal medicine
formulas have been in the hands of generations of the Hoxsey family.
The herbs that we have selected have a very long history in treating cancer patients with great
success. The Hoxsey Therapy was criticized by the powers-that-be as a leading example of medical
quackery. More recently, as attitudes about natural healing have changed, the U.S. Federal
Government has shown an interest in the therapy and federal funds have been used to conduct a
retrospective study of the results of the Hoxsey Therapy on patients at the Bio-Medical Center. Despite
unrelenting opposition from all angles the treatment continues to thrive. As cancer has become one of
the greatest killers of all time we cannot afford to turn our backs on nature, as it assists the body on its
road to recovery.
Good For You has now combined all these traditional herbs together to bring you our
most potent blend: “Hoxsiac”.
