MDONS e-NEWS March 2015 Volume 1, Issue 1 Here’s what’s Happening with our Chapter PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Barb Wenger To keep members more informed of our activities we are reviving our MDONS newsletters. Watch for these quarterly summaries! It’s been another productive year for our chapter. We’ve just completed our chapter annual report for the ONS National office, so I’d like to share some of those accomplishments with you. It takes a team, so I’d also like to thank you and all the Board members for their time and service. The backbone of our communication is the Secretary, Mary Jane. She has done such a successful job of coordinating all those emails and keeping all of informed. Another key member is the person responsible for our budget, Krista. We have successfully balanced the 2014 budget and have enough funds to keep the chapter solvent for 2015. (Per our chapter charter) Our Programs (John, Zita and Sarah), Research (Yuki and Sarah) and Fall Conference (Teresa, Krista and too many more to list) committees have all been very busy. This past year they have completed over 18 CE offerings with over 600 members participating in these events. Congratulations! The Membership committee (Carol and Maude) has worked so very hard to reconcile the email addresses in addition to recruiting and helping to retain our members. Due to changes at the National level, we are now using the Virtual Community to send communication rather than individual email addresses. ONS protects individuals by keeping that information confidential. This is a great time to make sure your email settings are allowing you to get our monthly group emails. If you are not getting them, here is a link with many helpful hints to make sure you don’t miss this important information: https://www.ons.org/manage-your-email-subscriptions For Information, contact Carol at [email protected] On February 19th, MDONS participated in a day long CE event which was a collaboration of 13 professional organizations. The event was educational and inspirational. The day included topics such as speed of trust, digital storytelling, advocacy and translation of caring. In addition, RMINS and MDONS had our first successful collaborative dinner meeting in which over people 100 attended. The meeting, held on March 12, included members from both organizations and nonmembers. Over $545 was raised for the LLS society. Both events brought together a large community of nurses and an opportunity to do more locally and state wide.
