Failure to mount the enclosure properly presents two problems: 1) The sub-bass performance will suffer due to the movement of the enclosure caused by the force exerted by the woofer(s). 2) A loose enclosure presents a serious safety hazard in the event of a collision or sudden deceleration. INSTALLATION D I F F I C U LT Y: 35 OUT OF ESTIMATED TIME: 2 HOURS STEP 1 Empty out the trunk of the car so that you have a clean area to work in. Thank you for choosing a JL Audio Stealthbox® for your automotive sound system. With proper installation, your new vehicle-specific enclosed subwoofer system will deliver years of listening pleasure. STEP 2 Remove the woofer from the Stealthbox®. We strongly recommend that you have your new Stealthbox® installed by your authorized JL Audio dealer. The installation professionals employed by your dealer have the necessary tools and experience to disassemble and reassemble your vehicle properly. Also, keep in mind that your warranty coverage extends to 2 years if your system is installed or approved by your authorized JL Audio dealer. If you prefer to perform your own installation, please read this installation guide completely before beginning the process. STEP 3 Place the MDF Spacer on the trunk floor as shown. Mark the locations of the two holes in the enclosure onto the side panel. Unclip the screw covers from the two tie-down hooks on the front section of trunk floor, and remove the screws. STEP 5 STEP 9 Remove the center section of the trunk floor. Remove all three floor panels. STEP 6 STEP 10 Remove the storage tray. Unclip the screw cover from the driver’s side storage pocket, and remove the screw. STEP 7 S T E P 11 Unclip the screw cover from the tie-down hook on the driver’s side trunk floor panel, and remove the screw. Repeat the process for the passenger side. Remove the storage pocket. Remove the screw holding in the base of the passenger side seat bolster. STE P 13 S T E P 17 Fold the seat backs down slightly to access the bolts holding in the seat cushion. Remove the two bolts. Unclip and remove the passenger side seat bolster. STE P 14 STEP 18 Pull out on the release tabs from under the front of the seat cushion, and remove the cushion. Remove the upper trim panel by sliding it toward the center of the vehicle. STE P 15 STEP 19 Pictured is the rear seat area with the seat cushion removed. Unclip the screw cover behind the seat release handle and remove the two screws. Unclip the seat release handle from the side panel as shown. STEP 21 STEP 25 Remove the trunk sill panel. Remove the side panel from the vehicle. STEP 22 STEP 26 Unclip the bolt cover from the tie-down hook at the back of the side panel, and remove the bolt and hook. With the side panel removed, reinstall the seat release handle as shown. STEP 23 STEP 27 Carefully unclip the side panel to access the seat release cable. Unclip the cable from the side panel. Unbolt and remove the factory subwoofer enclosure. Continued on Next Page SB-H-XTOUR/10W3v3 INSTR_SKU# 011336 STEP 28 STEP 32 Locate the hole in the diagonal brace, measure 7-3/4” from the center of the hole up the brace, and mark the brace as indicated. Thread a 3/8 - 16 x 2-1/4” Set Screw into each of the U-Nuts. STEP 29 STEP 33 Drill a small pilot hole at the mark made in the previous step. Drill 3/4” holes on the marks in the side panel made in Step 4. Before drilling, always make sure that you are not going to be drilling into any gas lines, brake lines, tires, transmission lines, electrical wiring, exhaust systems or anything else that might cause a reduction in your weekly pay. Always wear eye protection when drilling! Page 5 • JL Audio, Inc., 2015 STEP 30 STEP 34 Enlarge the hole to 3/8”. Reinstall the storage pocket. Reinstall the side panel, allowing the 3/8 - 16 x 2-1/4” Set Screws to pass through the holes in the panel. Slide the Aluminum Spacers over the Set Screws. STEP 31 STEP 35 Slide the two U-Nuts over the holes as shown. Pictured is the side panel installed, with the spacers recessed into the 3/4” holes. Reinstall the passenger side floor panel, and place the MDF Spacer on the panel. Continued on Next Page SB-H-XTOUR/10W3v3 INSTR_SKU# 011336 Page 6 • JL Audio, Inc., 2015 STEP 36 STEP 40 Attach speaker cable to the Stealthbox®, and place it into position, allowing the 3/8 - 16 x 2-1/4” Set Screws to pass through the holes in the enclosure. Thread a 3/8” Flat Washer, a 3/8” Split Lock Washer, and a 3/8” - 16 Hex Nut over each of the Set Screws, and firmly tighten. Remove the MDF Spacer. Open the storage pocket door, and remove the two screws at the back of the pocket. STEP 37 STE P 41 Reinstall the woofer. Reinstall the trunk sill panel, the storage tray, and the other trunk floor panels. Reinstall the passenger side seat bolster and the rear seat cushion. Carefully unclip and remove the trim panel around the shifter to access the two screws at the bottom of the storage pocket, and remove the screws. STEP 38 STEP 42 The active noise cancelling system needs to be disconnected from behind the factory radio. Begin the radio removal process by unclipping the woodgrain trim piece on the passenger side of the dash. Partially slide the storage pocket out to access the screws holding the two halves of the pocket together. Remove the screws, then remove both halves of the pocket. STEP 39 STEP 43 Unclip the small woodgrain trim piece on the driver’s side of the dash. Looking up from inside the storage pocket hole, locate the two screws holding the radio to the sub-dash, and remove the screws. JL Audio recommends high quality amplifiers such as the JL Audio XD700/5 or XD300/1. The diagram below shows the recommended crossover settings for the XD300/1. If another amplifier is being used, please refence this illustration and use similar settings on that amplifier. All JL Audio amplifiers are very versatile audio components. Please consult the owner’s manual for even more detailed information about installing and tuning your amplifier. CONNECTIONS CONGRATULATIONS! You have completed the installation for this model! Enjoy your new Stealthbox®! Please refer to the Power Recommendation section for an amplifier recommendation and basic set-up help. Using quality power, signal and speaker wire is essential in ensuring the performance of your Stealthbox®. JL Audio recommends using a 4 AWG power kit such as the XD-PCS4-1B for your Stealthbox® amplifier. Other kits are available should you be using more than one amplifier. Signal wire such as the JL Audio Premium Audio Interconnect Cables should be used to provide signal for both channels of the amplifier. JL Audio reccommends using 12AWG speaker wire for subwoofers such as our XC-BCS12-25.
