If you think you have what it takes to become a GM engineer, check-out our GM Career Spotlight on
Hybrid Control Systems Engineer Julie Pan to find out if a career with GM is right for you.
As a hybrid control systems engineer, Julie Pan plays a critical role in developing green technologies for
GM Canada’s growing fleet of hybrid vehicles. Pan first began her career with GM at the Oshawa
Engineering Centre as a release engineer in the electrical group responsible for the design and
integration of the power lift gate system, body control module, remote keyless entry system and vehicle
theft deterrent system found in the Chevy Equinox.
Today as a controls engineer, Pan works on the
diagnostic system for the plugging charging feature
on the Chevy Volt and Chevy Spark, including
sensors which notify the customer when a fault has
occurred and provide information to service teams
to allow for effective repairs.
“I find it very rewarding when I see one of our hybrid
vehicles driving down the road, to know that these
cars are helping to reduce emissions and that I was
part of the team that helped to develop this
technology,” says Pan.
Looking to the future, developing green
technologies to reduce emissions and improve the
sustainability of the automotive industry, will be a
key focus for the team at GM’s Engineering Centre.
“Our program will continue to grow as we electrify
more GM vehicles,” says Pan. “This is an exciting
time for the automotive industry in Canada and as a
GM engineer I know my work is helping to set the
bar for the entire industry.”
